Welcome to the UK.... Neighbours! We are following your "oh glorious sanding" adventures for years and we are glad you started to sail finally also that you have picked your destination just right where we are! Welcome to Gosport/Portsmouth. We would be more than happy to show you around in Portsmouth or the dockyard perhaps meet up for a chat and drink one evening. Any help or tools you need just let us know.... Agnes ask if you want some horseradish, she bought too much! 😉 Hope we see you around! Once again! Welcome!
Enjoy your winter in Gosport! The history around there is amazing, go look at HMS Medusa moored next to the green lightship, the captain, Alan Watson is a lovely man who will glady give you some pointers of the local area and the best boat parts shops!
Welcome to the UK, Mads and Ava. We have our boat in Spain, but live near Gosport and have some contacts that might help finding any obscure bits etc. Would love to meet to see if we can help in anyway, have seen ALL your excellent video's. Malcolm and Eileen
You guys are such a cute couple 💑! Your loving and connection rituals are such an important part of any healthy relationship. We have similar rituals as well incorporated into our lives. We have a daily special time ritual for a quick connection. Also Your Pits & Peaks are similar to our family's Highlights & Lowlights at meal time.. Later we added Growth Lights & sometimes a Scarylights. (Our youngest brought up the last one). We also have a traditional song we play, on our first sail each year or month when we turn off the engine and feel the wind. Cheers and fair winds.
Sliding by the neighbor. Yikes that looked close LOL. Well done guys. I like how you share a little history of you visits. So good to finally see to traveling!! You both look happy!
OMG I waved at you two as you arrived in Gosport. I saw the boat name and thought it was a coincidence! Got some names of contacts that might be able to help. and if you fancy a cuppa on our boat I'll be back down in Gosport and happy to help around if I can. How cool. welcome to Gosport
To experience life on a Solent Fort, go visit Spitbank Fort, converted into a Hotel and Restaurant. For a bit of Brighton colour, some 20 years ago there was talk of restoring the West Pier to re-establish it as the more opulent counterpart to the Palace Pier....as the time for restoration grew closer, the entire structure was engulfed in flames, putting an end to thoughts of restoration whilst leaving the Palace Pier alone to harvest all the seaside pier revenue! Enjoy your time in the UK.
So great to see Athena plying the waters once again. Mads has done a phenomenal job bringing this boat well past the restoration level. It is a new boat, as if it were redesigned in many respects. During my own restoration (which I have abandoned due to distance from project) , these videos were an incredible inspiration. I have learned so much thanks to Mads'' wonderful descriptions. I now take this knowledge to a smaller boat which is much closer to my landlocked home. Thanks Mads and Ava for bringing this wonderful adventure to us.
Good to see you in my home city of Brighton, I always enjoy seeing peoples perspectives on it :) When I first moved here in 1995 the fires hadn't yet destroyed the west pier although it wasn't accessible without a boat and was abandoned. Then the fires happened and destroyed any remaining buildings and it became the skeleton it is today. Every few years a bit more collapses so it may not be around too much longer If you do come back sometime I hope that the waste management companies are not on strike again. The garbage mountains we have been growing the last 2 weeks are not a very nice welcome to the UK and not representative of our city
Welcome to the UK! Glad you made it and another fine video. Athena is looking great, all your hard work is paying off. The fort you went past is actually about 150 years old, and was designed like 2 others on the Eastern approaches to stop French attacks (although it was completed way after that was an issue!) & there is a small ships channel through the Ship/Submarine Barrier which was from just before WW1. Lots of places to visit in this area - Portsmouth Dockyards, Porchester Castle, Submarine at Gosport, The Salt Cabin at Wycor Marina - lovely walk to Porchester from there, Hovercraft to Ryde, Hovercraft Museum at Lee on Solent - many, many things to do. DIY might struggle ;) Enjoy
I have to tell you that I usually hit the like button before I watch the video, because I know I'm going to enjoy it. But there is one thing I am hanging out for and that is a full boat tour. When will we see one?
Glad your on the move . All your hard work has paid off and your able to enjoy your beautiful boat. Have a blast guys .... Thank you for taking us along ....
I Sailed those waters many times before Athena was even built! Long before ais , vhf and nothing but a compass, radio DF and reeds almanac! But I’m glad I did not know how heavy the traffic was that I could not see! I even remember Brighton marina being built! Thanks for the great memories , I sail the east coast usa when I can now! Cheers Warren
I was born in Portsmouth and haven’t been back for 50 years. Looking forward to see how that area has changed since my last visit. I really enjoyed this episode.
Ava is a terrific story teller! And good on you for properly crossing the TSS, communication and course. Around my marina few here would even bother looking at the chart let alone plot a proper course.
I've liked every video you have put out and guess what? I've given this one a big like too. I'm loving it even more now your on the move - can't wait until next week's episode.
Congratulations both of you and welcome to our home! I'm in Ramsgate just past Dover where you were, iv always loved watching your channel and enjoyed thankyou! I'm a carpenter joiner / Builder if there's are any tools you may need to use or have a trouble aquireing help always feel fee to give a shout out your friend Matt
Awesome video and welcome to the UK!! Portsmouth/Gosport is a great place for British Naval History. Make sure you get over and see HMS Victory and the naval museum area. Looking forward to see the work continue on the boat!!
Used to spend summers on the boat in Gosport. The Portsmouth side museums are brilliant but in the end we had to cross over to Cherbourg and further south - the food, sun and prices are in a different category.
Wow the submarine barrier is so cool. There is so much history in Britain that makes me so jealous of your adventures you are having. Reading history is one thing but visiting it is an experience that tops all. Keep up the great videos
Never have I had a problem leaving a like for you guys. Looking forward to seeing how you do in a British winter compared to a winter in Denmark. Take care, stay well and have a good time in jolly old England.
I wait for the new video every week. When I found this channel earlier in the summer, I binged watched all the Athena videos. Now I can hardly wait until the new one comes out. And, I am still pushing the gold leaf cove stripe for Athena, I think it would be spiffy. See you next week.
You are so right about the Dutch people. Spent a few days on a Dutch air base with a US Army unit as we picked up our vehicles at Rotterdam. We were treated extremely well by all of them!
So much fun to see sailing in action. What a relief for you both to have a ‘home berth’ - for a while at least. Loving the blend of life and sailing on the channel.
Mads, did you call your green/yellow rain gear orange? Ava, getting him straight on this. Hey great Video, as usual. So glad you had a great trip. Thanks for sharing everything!
Welcome to the uk ! Am am a big fan of your videos and am based in Portsmouth. If you want a day out while here I recommend getting the Gosport ferry over to the hard ( Portsmouth) and visiting the historic dockyard. All the best Jon
Wow y'all, like could sail life get any better??? Well yeah!!!!!😃. I felt like I just watched something on nova!!! Your videos are so great! The chemistry between you both is infectious, and a joy to watch.
Well I must say it's nice to finally say Hi to Ava after all the episodes listening to you speak of the "invisible lady" Ava . You both appear quite comfortable in the boat especially after having to cross a busy sea lane. You guys are downright "Spiffy" lol
Welcome to the U.K. you have actually picked by good luck or clever planning, a very good base to explore from your just about in the middle of things and places to be worthy of a visit on that part of our coastline. I’d love to see you guys but I’m almost 300 miles north of you in Yorkshire, but you never know, stay safe and keep the excellent video going.
If you ask me the first project should be one of those canvass covering things over the cockpit so that when Ava kicks you out for creating too much dust inside the boat you will at least have a place to sleep out of the rain.
Welcome to the UK Mads & Ava 🥂 I hope you enjoy it. My Son has 2 yachts in Premier that he looks after, so I will ask him to tip his hat in case you need any guidance 👌
Have a night out in the old lightship restaurant in the marina. It’s a great place for a meal and the restoration work is first class. Right next to the marina is the old British submarine HQ, which used to be HMS Dolphin, that is why the submarine museum is close by. From where you are moored you can see the old tower that was used for training submariners to escape from sunken submarines. I’m sure you will have found out by now, but the Gosport ferry is close by and will take you across to Portsmouth, where a visit to HMS Victory is compulsory, along with HMS Warrior and the Mary Rose of course. I’m surprised that you didn’t check out the visa situation more thoroughly before you left, so you now need to plan around it a bit better. You have 3 options between the two of you, which is the UK, Eire and then Schengen. Using all 3 you can stay in this part of the world for as long as you like.
A "somewhat extensive refit" ??? I'm not sure what else you could've done to your boat, I'd characterize the refit as "very extensive" or "extensively extensive" or "ex-twenty-sive". It's so good to see you on the open water. Congratulations, you not only did an incredible job on the boat, but you did an incredible job documenting the process. Just think, 200 years from now, people will still be able to watch your refit on TH-cam. And due to the perfect work you did, Athena will still be sailing.
When we visited Brighton we too were amazed by the rocky beach and burned pier. We had a ball at the Palace Pier and Summer or Petite Palace. On a side note my wife and son asked for chocolate shakes at a place near the beach and they made what looked like chocolate milk. Brighton is fantastic and the English put up with us accented-colonials with aplomb.
AWESOME VIDEO. I love seeing Athena sailing having watched you restore her for soooo long. You two have great personalities that make every episode the most enjoyable. At present I follow several sailing channels and in my humble opinion you take FIRST place I always look forward to your episodes and escapades and you never disappoint. Keep up the good work
Mads, I'd be interested in videos about your process and steps you take to up rig and down rig your sails and using the deck hardware you've installed for those various purposes. What's working well, what needs improvement/changes.
Congrats on making it to my neck of the woods. Gosport is full to brimming with history and 6 months may not be long enough to take it all in but I hope you and Ava enjoy your stay. There is everything you could possibly need around you. You will need a small vehicle to get around outside of town though
I have to say...I REALLY enjoy your video productions. Very informative, not too long and fun! And Eva is a wonderful hostess. Maybe you can make it to the Annapolis Boat Show next year. Also,I wouldnt mind if you shared your process for editing video. Big Thanks!
For watermakers i would suggest the Dessalator duo series. I have worked on them on some Amel yachts. They are pretty good in my opinion. Most importantly, they work on 12/24V DC and 230V AC, hence duo. You could operate them on battery power if you wanted, or you could power it via your genset/ shore power.
My recommendation is to build it yourself. You will end up with all the best components and will have a great understanding of how it works for half the price.
I'm looking forward to you showing off Gosport and Portsmouth. I'm doing the 2023-24 Clipper Race, which is based in Gosport. I hope you get to (or have) check them out while you're there. You should see some of their older boats, as training for the race has already begun.
Welcome to the UK, 🤔 things to see, well, the submarine museum in Haslar is great! Fort Nelson is a must for every thing that goes BANG! And of course HMS Victory. In fact the whole of the south coast is stuffed with things to look at.
The chain pier area just west of the marina is the nudist beach in summer.... The Fort you saw was one of a Chain of fort constructed in the 1860's to combat the threat of a Napoleonic invasion. Have fun in Gosport!

Shots of the bow show what a great paint job you did and how impressive your custom toe rail is.
Hi Mads
Very nice meeting you and Ava this morning.Welcome to Gosport.
Chris .
Clear to see your enjoying the fruits of your labour.
Being an amateur history geek, I really enjoyed Ava's Brighton pier history.
I enjoyed it too :)
Pier drama is better than beer drama.
Ava is insane with remembering all this history info and then teaching us all about it
A heartfelt welcome to the UK, Gosport and Portsmouth are amazing areas and you will love it I am sure
Sliding by the neighbor. Yikes that looked close LOL. Well done guys. I like how you share a little history of you visits. So good to finally see to traveling!! You both look happy!

The boat is a glamour ❤️👍
Loved the bit you did with the seagulls! Made me LOL

Hay Mads, that toe rail really looks good. Glad your two are having lots of fun.
Thank you SO much for also giving us a little bit of history and attractions at all the ports you have pulled into. You two are the BEST!!!
Love you consideration for crossing a TSS. Remember, the course doesn’t matter, it’s a heading.
And we are STILL waiting to hear if Mads was "excited" by the mini-clogs!!!!!
100 years refiting the boat, first Sunday with pleasant sail, both main and jib up, and only show 3 seconds of that moment. Thanks.
So cool guys. Congrats on your arrival in the UK. Fair winds, Following seas

I was born in Portsmouth and haven’t been back for 50 years. Looking forward to see how that area has changed since my last visit. I really enjoyed this episode.
I like the history on location angle. Keep it up Ava!
A great sailing channel is made better with the addition of Ava. Keep up the great work.
Yup
Settling for the winter
Will create home comfort
Enjoy all your DIY
Cheers
Hi Guys, I don't think you would be allowed back to Brighton after Avas history lesson.
Seriously great video, it gave me a laugh. Take care.
Welcome to England guys. Hope you enjoy your time here
Ava is a terrific story teller! And good on you for properly crossing the TSS, communication and course. Around my marina few here would even bother looking at the chart let alone plot a proper course.
Ava looks like a sailing natural. The boat looks beautiful sailing.
I've liked every video you have put out and guess what? I've given this one a big like too. I'm loving it even more now your on the move - can't wait until next week's episode.

I have enjoyed your DIY videos, but I enjoy your sailing videos just as much.
Awesome video and welcome to the UK!! Portsmouth/Gosport is a great place for British Naval History. Make sure you get over and see HMS Victory and the naval museum area. Looking forward to see the work continue on the boat!!
It was great to see you both outside YouBoat this morning. Have a good time in the Uk.

Another week.... another great video - thanks Mads and Ava!
Can't wait for more DIY. You are my incentive to get my project boat up to snuff.
Water Maker install -- Sailing Uma -- Episode 258 -- a Spectra water maker system .

Welcome to the UK Mads & Ava 🥂 I hope you enjoy it. My Son has 2 yachts in Premier that he looks after, so I will ask him to tip his hat in case you need any guidance 👌
Loved Brighton bought our Westerley Oceanlord there and did a major refit on her

Good to see you guys sailing :)
Looking forward to the winter DIY projects too.

The ultimate DIY channel!!! Obviously also looking forward to cruising as well.
Cheers guys
Congrats on making it to my neck of the woods. Gosport is full to brimming with history and 6 months may not be long enough to take it all in but I hope you and Ava enjoy your stay. There is everything you could possibly need around you. You will need a small vehicle to get around outside of town though
Had a laugh on the pier segment, ava and her dry humor went well there. 👍
What a journey it's been so far, and it's just beginning. Great channel guys.
Athena looks brand new, wonderful job you two!
"Kattsand" - what a funny name in Scandinavian ears; kittylitter. :) Thanks for yet another great episode! I enjoyed the timelapse segments.
I have to say...I REALLY enjoy your video productions. Very informative, not too long and fun! And Eva is a wonderful hostess. Maybe you can make it to the Annapolis Boat Show next year. Also,I wouldnt mind if you shared your process for editing video. Big Thanks!
Welcome to the UK, pity you missed out in visiting Orkney , you pair enjoy yourselves
Cheers to both of you for giving us good information about your sail and the piers. Good luck with the head!
I was wondering what your main table is made out of? That wood looks great.
For watermakers i would suggest the Dessalator duo series. I have worked on them on some Amel yachts. They are pretty good in my opinion. Hi , Welcome to the UK , GLAD ALL WENT WELL .
My recommendation is to build it yourself. You will end up with all the best components and will have a great understanding of how it works for half the price.
A great video thanks for sharing and welcome to the UK 🇬🇧
I'm looking forward to you showing off Gosport and Portsmouth. I'm doing the 2023-24 Clipper Race, which is based in Gosport. I hope you get to (or have) check them out while you're there. You should see some of their older boats, as training for the race has already begun.
Welcome to ‘Oh Glorious Blighty’! 👍
Can't wait until you guys come to the states.
Welcome to the UK. I was in Gosport and Portsmouth last month touring the historic dockyard, submarine museum etc
I always enjoy the video.
Welcome to the UK, 🤔 things to see, well, the submarine museum in Haslar is great! Fort Nelson is a must for every thing that goes BANG! And of course HMS Victory. In fact the whole of the south coast is stuffed with things to look at.
Doug said it below Ava is charming and witty, she is fun to listen to.
Yes it 6 months in a rolling year take. Care 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏✊🏻
Welcome to the good ship UK! Hope your time here goes well
It’s great to see you guys out on the adventure.
The chain pier area just west of the marina is the nudist beach in summer.... The Fort you saw was one of a Chain of fort constructed in the 1860's to combat the threat of a Napoleonic invasion. Have fun in Gosport!
Not that I’ll be around to see you as I’m based in Asia these days but I’m happy to see you in my home sailing grounds. Enjoy the Solent.
