WELCOME!!! To this full in-depth tour of my friends Huub's tiny sailboat. S/V "Limonada" is a 1971 Alberg 30. It's a slooped rigged, full keel monohull sailboat that's acquired a ton of character over the last half century! As well, this is Huub's humble home upon the sea.
Three years ago, Huub went to Guatemala, found this boat that was supposedly ready to sail. He fell in love with it a bit quickly. And then found out after he paid $18,000, it was more ready to sink than sail. But he did not quit!
After no shortage of blood, sweat & tears. His sheer grit & determination won through. Eventually he made this sailboat just ready enough to sail all the way out of Guatemala, to Jamaica, and throughout the Eastern Caribbean. Even though he has no life raft or emergency equipment. A testament to his conviction to become a true sailor. Something most could never do.
Huub has been a longtime content creator with his channel "Huub's Vlog" / @huubvlogs He's been traveling all over the world. But like anyone who takes to the sea like this. He quickly found out it's a different and difficult ball game out here. But through many trials and disasters. He's stuck with it and learned soo much along the way. So give his channel a look and see for yourself.
This is a very humble sailboat. Mainly due to it's size I don't think most people could live in it. But that is an upside I think. Because unlike most catamarans and other larger vessels. This sailboat is highly affordable and has an extremely low cost to maintain. Allowing Huub to be able to sail and cruise full time. Without worry of breaking the bank.
    .
    .
If you can, I'd really recommend checking out his Patreon page. He puts a ton of effort into his dedicated fan base. And I know he'd appracite your support.

Hello & welcome! I'm Daniel aka "Adventureman Dan." I've been living on the edge, from one adventure to another for the past nine years. Stating in Central California with my first GoPro, through SoCal, Baja, New Zealand, Australia, South Africa, Alaska and throughout the whole USA. But for the past five years on my sailboat "Adventureborne" I'm open to unlimited possibilities of where I can go, and what I can do!

$18K for a boat this solid isn't crazy at all. Maybe you could have negotiated the price down some, but if it came re-powered with that diesel (I'm pretty sure they all originally came with Atomic 4's) and the other gear you've shown us, I'd say that you have done well.
Spending $200K for a new Beneteau 30, now *that's* crazy. And ask yourself which boat you'd rather be in if you get caught out in a gale.

I agree, Buuuuut, if you are not in a hurry to buy you can shop. and by that I mean wait for the one. it will come and you will save enough to do whatever you want to it. I shopped for my first boat for 6-7 years and ended up paying 2000 for a 30' with a 27 hp diesel, $2000 Honda 10 hp outboard, and really good interior. needs 2 patches on the main and I got a new battery, but C'mon... I was rewarded for my patience. take as much time as it takes. Never impulse buy, wait for it!

Dan, thank you for your most excellent & and informative videos about the various sail boats & the sailing life that I would like to learn. I was very impressed with your videos & the Benetau 40 CC from the Med. That one B/C of the most excellent kitchen layout & all the other ammenaties & innovations. I'm a retired ER Doc & musician and I did some sailing back in 1970 around Catalina Island when I was 17 and more recently in an 18' Prindle Catamaran from Punta Vedra & Jacksonville FL and in the lakes in Texas but I never had the chance to spend time with a great sailing mentor as crew where I could learn the practical details of weather & navigation instruments or how to record videos or edit them, etc. I've done a lot of schooling in medicine and I'm pretty good at repairing things that break. I would like to be a patron & crew with someone like you & learn everything you could teach me in 2 weeks or a month or more if the opportunity ever presented. Great job. Dave

that is a nice boat. However, what I do not like about most 30 ft. sailboat interiors is that too much space is given to the salon and not enough to the head and hanging locker (or other storage) A live-aboard needs a more spacious head, and, perhaps, a larger galley. It does not need six foot berths in the salon.

Only Americans would call a thirty footer a small/tiny boat.

Most people who've been around ocean going sailboats would call 30' small.

I mean no offense, but I have to say this is some real old school sailing, but certainly not old enough to mean good school. Good school would be much simpler, much lighter, much shallower draft, more hulls, fewer complications, self built, easily repairable, less expensive to maintain, faster, more versatile, unsinkable, and way way way more elegant. Something much like my boat, for example.

Thanks 4 your Videos, I love your ship. You have nice methods how you keep the boat swimming, great .... keep it up! I´m a sailing musician, would be happy 4 your likes an Abos 2. You can find a *Band on Tour by Boat* Serie on my channel and lots of Music. I´ll be continuing this with my new Boat AVALON, a Commander 31* from Denmark. Your welcome, I´ll be watching you 2. Sail save, Fair winds, love

Why do you not let people showcase their own boats. Every video you just compare to your boat. It's odd.

    Hello my name is Remi.
    Here is food for thought...
Why is it that you have to talk about what your boat has when doing a walk through on someone else's vessel?
    A tad bit insulting.
Hope your ego issues resolve with time.

I have a westsail 32. Added watermaker and hydrovane and 900 watts of solar. It was totaled a month ago. A drunk POS t-boned it with a jet ski ND fortunately he died as it saved me from. Going to prison. I was anchor. Moving to the Philippine. Safer there as many here and 2 men here lost their houses to reparations.
