North Korea fears South Korea more than the other way around. South Korea's military is so large and modern, they could invade and occupy all of North Korea within weeks. But there's nothing of value in North Korea to get so they don't.
In America we got 3 things 1.) A shitload of guns and armed civilians 2.) a quite large and advanced military 3.) a police force the size of a military
True however to counter all 3, 1) no civilians can offer real resistance to a trained military, it would be very difficult to occupy the country though 2) nukes/just being defeated 3) once again, the military of USSR has tanks/nukes/planes etc. so there’s no way the cops could really do anything
And I see old comments how Russia would blow by Alaska and thru the entire US if they were invaded. Meanwhile in Ukraine a country with a population only fifth of that of US is holding off 200,000 Russian troops. It’s like Finland all over again 😂
@@fightingcock6920 well, ive seen videos and explanation that the reason they are failing so bad its because of trash logistics. Russia was 99.9% sure they would take ukraine in less than a week they really didn’t prepare for a long conflict because they thought they would Blitzkrieg through ukraine, well that obviously didn’t happen, tank batallions and vehicles running out of fuel, hell farmers are stealing abandoned tanks because they ran out of fuel, soldiers being lost because they don’t know where to go and the location of a target, and last but not least russia didn’t expect the resistance to be this strong. It’s embarrassing really
I grew up 5 miles from The US Naval Academy. I remember seeing "Red Dawn" when it first came out in a small two screen movie theater in Annapolis. In the back of the theater were a bunch of Midshipmen. Every time a Russian was blown up, those guys cheered like The USA had won The Super Bowl.
The premise is ridiculous as it is. I think the writer doesn't understand how many mountains are in Alaska, and Western Canada. That would be the slowest invasion ever.
Just getting through Texas and all those gun owners would have been impossible. Creating a 2 front war (actually 3 fronts) is just suicidal. Their best bet would have to come through Mexico and conquer California West of the Sierras. There's plenty of farmland there they can get food for the Soviet Union and the mountains would offer some degree of protection. Conquering the entire country would always be impossible. Conquering parts of California while still impossible for the Soviet Union of the 80's, is a little more realistic.
@@JimmyMon666 I don't know. Back in the 80s California was a very pro gun state. You could get a full auto rifle there. Like, an *actual* is something that you could find at a random gun store in L.A.
Actually the movie says that 600 million Chinese people are ALIVE, it's the other 400 million that died. The really unrealistic part of this film is that the Soviets are apparently invading out of desperation (due to the famine) but ALSO are winning all over the place.
i mean if a coordinate attack cripple a country enough in the first day of a surprise attack it will be hard to fight back like what the US did to iraq in the first gulf war and since the army could have high more knowing that they are fighting for the last hope of the URSS but yeah once the military understand the situation and rearrange itself they will at less be enough to stop the advance
And let's not forget, Poland rising up eludes to unrest within the ussr itself. So they'd be fighting down revolutions in their own lands among with fighting against China and the US. It's not very realistic
@@F3aredGenocide I guess you could say that the Soviets are just that desperate. Seems that the entire Soviet goal of the invasion was to secure America’s vast food supplies and industrial capacity to keep for themselves. It wouldn’t be the first time in history desperation and arrogance among leaders have led to catastrophic and counter productive actions in war. Hitler declaring war on the US for example, or even going to war against the USSR in the first place. The Politburo could’ve been of the mindset that “Kick in the door, and the whole rotten structure will come crashing down”. If they were under the impression that the US population was demoralised and unwilling to resist. They might’ve been in the mindset that all they’d need is to land ground troops and wipe out some major cities with nukes and the US would just give up without there needing to be a fight at all. Of course, it had the opposite effect and the Combloc ended up in a costly and ultimately doomed stalemate.

Brezhnev's daughter was once asked if the Soviet Union was ever planning to invade the USA. She said no. When asked why, she said, "Your people have guns."
JakeTheSnakeFromStatefarm Are you talking present figures or past your talking about the ussr which suggests past but you say has which indicates present
On behalf of Texas, I'd say we have the fire power of some major countries down here. Also, the gulf probably has many US submarines, as well as countless military bases
So ... it's not a famine per se. However, consider an EXTREMELY bad wheat harvest; possibly brought about by bad farming practices dictated by the Central authorities in Moscow. (It was ALMOST that way under Khrushchev, when he ordered corn to be planted instead of wheat, hoping to duplicate the fields of Iowa corn he had witnessed in his tour of the US. Clue for you city folk: corn and wheat take different growing environments. You can't just plant corn when you have no experience growing corn on a large scale and expect it to turn your land into the next Iowa.) The movie takes place in the late autumn -- school is in full swing as well as the football season. It means that the wheat in Colorado, Kansas, etc. would have been harvested and is being stored in wheat bins waiting to be transported to mills. In a lightning strike, simultaneously taking out major metropolitan areas in the east while dropping paratroopers over the plains and foothills of Colorado, Montana, etc. (note: the paratroopers did not drop out of commercial airliners. The planes carrying the paratroopers stayed close behind the commercial airliners, so they'd show up as one blip on the radar screen, thus sneaking into American airspace.) IOW, the plan is what the Irish would call a "cattle raid": capture the bins holding the wheat, bring in the equipment needed to ship it back to the USSR, rinse, repeat. You might even be able to grab a bunch of cattle and/or hogs to supply meat to the people at home. If things worked out as planned, within a week and a half, maybe two weeks, a majority of America's food supply has been stolen to feed the hungry Russians, Cubans, and anyone else that was already on the USSR's support list.
@JayPlaysStuff - actually, up until the early 80s, starvation/near-starvation was a regularly recurring problem. Those of us who followed things knew that, finally, the Soviets were *starting* to get a handle on it, but the Soviet pull-out from Afghanistan was, essentially, 'the beginning of the end' of the Soviet Union, as it - essentially - was the government's admission that they weren't all-powerful, nor all-knowing, nor always right. At that point, the 'Russian bear' was, to all intents & purposes, just waiting for the hunters to close in on it and finish it off. The 'hunters' could've been anybody/anything! (ie.: military coup, popular up-rising, invasion by a 'supposedly friendly power', general food-supply collapse, or a combination of those or various other 'stressors') If the war in Afghanistan could've been ended with *any sort* of 'negotiated settlement' ... the USSR *might've* lasted several years longer!

@@matthewrodriguez9746 Shooting at paratroopers is a warcrime tho. After such incident soviets would reconsider who can be designated as enemy. American civilians could've been targeted by missiles, CAS planes, attack helicopters and etc. It's all ''yeehaw'' until it's not.
@@lovepeace9727 Ngl. you seem like a real gullible person rn. No one gives a shit about the geneva suggestions and all its rules. Countries like the US as a matter of fact still use tons of weapons that have been banned by it and so do the russians. Shooting a paratrooper may be a war crime but its just like a speeding ticket. Most officers will give you a warning and thats it. There are things in the geneva convention that are simply dumb in the eyes of everyone that signed it and therefore no one follows them (like paratroopers having some kind of protection just because they cant defend themselves whilst airborn) as a matter of fact the soviets did just that in several conflicts. Also no country besides north korea would start a nuclear holocaust over paratroopers being shot. On top of that its impossible to gain air superiority on US soil. So any mig/su that invades US airspace would be shot down befor they could drop any FABs on even the smallest shithole. Same goes for attack helicopters. Attack helicopters can only be used if either air superiority is already taken or during a large scale offence with air, ground and naval troops engaging at once and even if all of this would be the case, attack helicopters are still very easily shot down by small arms fire or GTA missiles, even a stinger could take down a KA-/ or MI-/ fairly easily.
What so a population of armed civilians that probably have no military training, would see of a Russian invasion 🤔 I'd reckon that a massive amount of armed civilians would shit themselves and drop their guns and run.
When a state's flag has the words "Come and Take it" is the same as a defiant roast a Greek gave to a Persian years ago, you know that state is going to be kicking some derriere if they got attacked.
Fun fact, but the country that invaded the US in the remake was supposed to be China but they changed everything in post Due to the obvious problems that would have brought about regarding ticket sales in China
I remember reading an old interview with the Nikita Khrushchev and he said if Russia were to ever go to war with United States it would be purely nuclear, because every scenario they war gamed with a land Invasion ended in failure. Because the American people are so well-armed.
theylied1776 more like USA military is so well armed and the logistics wouldn't work. Just like similar invasion by USA to Russia would fail miserably. USSR, and Russia now, are far too well armed, have far too much man power and are far too big to logistically manage to supply an invasion. What weapons civilians have in peace time is irrelevant, since in total war situations they would be immediately supplied with military arms.Far example all Texan civilian militias people talk about making Texas impossible to invade? there would not be civilian Texan militias. USA still has draft law in place. All those civilian gun owners would be called up and suddenly Texas has a pretty huge State Guard. they would be supplied with laws, tank mines, machine guns and other serious military hardware. would some of them have their civilian AR-15s, probably, but it would be least of their arsenal. Both USA and Russia have such massive stockpiles of basic military gear, that what civilians have is meaningless, when both nations can easily fit out millions and millions of soldiers with full military gear and weapons, so you get nowhere near the civilians before facing an impenetrable wall of soldiers. what makes USA un-invadable is it's sheer land mass size and two big moats known as Atlantic and pacific oceans between it and anybody even remotely wanting to attack it. there won't be a land invasion, since USA Navy will sink the invasion far before it gets to shore. Either Canada or Mexico would be taken out by USA well before invasion through them happens. Despite what everybody says, there certainly is plans ready for this, USA has far too many war planners on payroll for someone not have wasted couple years for planning those scenarios. You always plan even for the. most remote possibilities, you just never talk about those plans out of respect and diplomatic sensibilities. For example I'm absolutely sure that somewhere deep in the military archives (under couple tons of bed rock in a deep dark storage cave) here in Finland there is defence plans for fighting defensive wars against Sweden, Norway and Denmark and also against NATO (obviously there is a plan for Russian invasion, the one thing considered even remotely politically possible to happen). Even thought we are best pals with other Nordics and have good relations with NATO. But that is just something you do, when you are a military planner. You plan for every logistically even remotely possible situation regardless of political situation, alliances and treaties and cultural ties, because you always plan for the worst. You basically assume that a crazy maniac dictator gets in power in your closest ally and then plan for it. There is also USA plan against Russian invasion attempt. It reads "note a) our Navy and air force will stop them well before mainland. b) National guard will easily mop up any of the neglibly few troops to make it to mainland. note c) Russians would never be stupid enough to try this in first place."
***** You're referring to something different, what you're talking about is a conventional War. What Nikita Khrushchev was referring to was Russia didn't have a "Contingency Plan" for invading America because of the amount of guns owned by American citizens and their willingness to fight. There are almost 400 million guns in the hands of private civilians. Not to mention the millions of guns just sitting on shelves in gun stores. When you attend a private Military Academy, Annapolis, West Point, Air Force Academy or one of the military War Colleges you write papers about "Contingency Plans" and strategies for invasion. Contingency plans are only implemented after a conventional War, after a nation's armed forces have basically been decimated but the government has yet to surrender. Basically every country comes up with contingency plans for invasion but Nikita Khrushchev was talking about how every scenario Russia came up with ended in disaster because the American people were too well-armed and too willing to fight.
+Ari Takalo it's not similar to the US invading Russia. But the reverse is so impossible it's not even worth discussing. For the US to invade Russia we would simply have to bloat our armies and get them into europe, which is not something we couldn't do.
Is it just me or is the timeline for Fallout actually more realistic than this? At least in the Fallout timeline, NATO doesn't collapse "just because".
Nonsense, all the going hot scenarios that were played as wargames by U.S. And Nato armed forces where played off under Russian detente, was that America/Russia-Warsaw Pact countries would be icy to one another, trade, send envoys and cultural exchanges but would fight their wars in small skirmishes to either topple or puppet a country. Thus the reality is the believable scenario of Red Dawn is possible, believable and would have happened eventually if not for sudden shifts in ruling factions inside Russia to change outcomes before they went too hot. I suggest watching the History of the Cold War produce by the BBC(I think it is 14 episodes long), as everything the U.S./NATO/Warsaw Pact did was to fight WWIII but on a small scale and without nukes. Hence the term Cold War, because there was a war, it was just a proxy war. If you investigate the actual events of the Cold War, you will sorta laugh at Fallout as to it's bubblegum history. Fallout is mostly influenced by a Collier's magazine in the 1950's ran speculative fiction pieces about nuclear war, it's out come and it spawned the whole genre of post atomic fiction. Read if you can Starmans Child by Andre Norton, half of Fallout Comes from that and the history parts are taken in sections from several sources and one is Coilers the War We Did Not Want, instead of Russian place Chinese. The Chinese invading part is taken from Robert A. Heinlein's 5th Column. It's a mish mash of various previously played out to nearly death but lovable tomes and great concepts. In fact, thank gawd Bathesda sucks at doing their Post Atomic speculative fiction research, the game could be more rich. I hear Radlands has a better story line, then again for plausible Russian/USA scenario would be A Boy and His Dog.
+Steve La Dedha Wow, some actual thought and use of historical events, unlike the O.P. of this channel who just pokes at a presidential candidate and compares a video game to reality without any background of history or military strategy. Well done.

I'd actually like to see a legit sequel to Red Dawn that shows other aspects of America during the Soviet Invasion, like show what the military is up to and the support Britain and China are giving them. It's a shame so many people these days only view this as "Right Wing Pro War Propaganda," because it itself really is just a great film about crap hitting the fan and teens having to survive. The whole backstory and concept is very interesting. And yes, this movie is Right-Wing Propaganda, and I loved every friggin second of it.
@@concept5631 apparently some people on the internet have been calling it that. Like they’ll call out all the movies unrealistic elements (Teenagers fighting off hordes of Russian soldiers and armor) and claim that “oh Russia has no reason to invade us”. But honestly I more or less like to see the movie the way you said you do: an epic action movie about laying the smack down on some dirty commies. Eh, idk, I don’t think Red Dawn should be so overly analyzed and picked apart, and should be enjoyed for what it is: a fun action film about a group of American Teens fighting off Communism.

They hinted at it in the movie. West coast is cut off. The major Soviet thrusts were halted. The great plains are the main conventional battlefield. Well, the scenario assumes that latin Americans had changed quite a bit and managed to build up thier millitary. They likey have all the tanks, aircraft and equipment they need for an initial push. And they also have somewhat experienced soldiers because they invaded thier neighbors. The idea that Latin ameria is completely incompetent isn't true, especially in this scenario. It's very unrealistic that they *get* to the place they have in this scenario but of they somehow did I can see them making gains in the initial push if they suprise attacked the US millitary. Holding that territory and trying to fight the rest of the US at the same time is not feasible for anyone to do, Latin Americans, Soviets, Chinese, a tyrannical US gov, *maaaybe* aliens could but that's still debatable. Trying to move fuel and supplies to the front line is basically going to be impossible, leading to an easy counter offensive from the US.
Cody left out that in the movie it is clearly explained that illegal aliens coming into the United States from Mexico, most of which were Cuban managed to find there way into military bases and sabotaged many of them. It is stated that they managed to sabotage Strategic Air Command. I wonder why Cody would leave that out of this video?

It was originally China but the studio didn't want to offend them with demonizing the Chinese thus alienating those customers. It would've affected the gigantic Chinese box office movie market since Hollywood is bending over backwards to get a film approved through the censorship agency for Chinese audiences. After script excerpts got leaked with sharp criticisms in Chinese news made the studio chose to insert cgi in post production. North Korean flags are animated over China's symbols on equipment and uniforms, Korean banners on buildings, and interior flags inserted in an office. The Chinese dialogue got dubbed to Korean. The original motive of China was that the US defaulted on loans when they ordered repossession because of the debt we're actually in with how much we buy (Walmart-"made in China") made from their cheap labor and factories. The movie stated that Russia is cooperating with them but that's still isn't enough to be believable. "We were initially very reluctant to make any changes, but after careful consideration we constructed a way to make a scarier, smarter and more dangerous Red Dawn that we believe improves the movie." Trip Vinson- film producer. There is little reason or goal to why North Korean invaded is explained. Even if they made North Korea the "villain" they should've reworked it to make it plausible. The original had alliances with Mexico and Cuba though our alliance to communist China isn't explained. What if Russia reworked communism without starvation then with the Middle East and Africa attacked Europe to the US East coast while an unified Korea lead communist Asia to the west coast. At least the movie failed critically and even commercially at 50 million from its 65 million budget.
I would have just made it an alternate timeline where the USSR didn't fall. Mikhail Gorbachev does not come to power. Instead Grigory Romanov is chosen. Glasnost and Perestroika never happen. Instead we have no fall of the Berlin Wall, a "happy" East Germany and everything going la-dee-da until the years leading up to WWIII.
An invasion would be an absolute slaughter. The sheer amount of people that would jump at the opportunity to kill invading forces with impunity would be overwhelming. Also, a very large portion of us are either armed or overarmed.
Its kind of hilarious that Red Alert 2 has a more "realistic" WW3 invasion of America plot than Red Dawn as the Soviets in that game, nutered NATO Nukes and has Mind Control to turn the US's Armed Population against them.
I want another Red Dawn like movie just so we can get a shot of a Neo Nazi, a Blood, an Extremist Muslim, and a member of the Yakuzo all teaming up to kill a bunch of commies and normal people just being really fucking confused.
As us for you pal. Britain and America are like two drunk dudes who got pissed at each other, fist faught and have been bffs ever since. "This is my friend Canada, he's pretty fucking chill, can he hangout" Britain: "hell ya bro, let's all go fight evil shit"
America also had help finishing off Britain when France got him in a headlock allowing America to gut punch him freely. The second fight Britain got the first punch in, but America was grown up enough by that point that his counter punch knocked Britain out. Once he woke up, they shook hands, Britain gave France the finger, but then they both helped France kick Germany and Italy's asses. Japan tried to sucker punch America when his back was turned, but then got rocked with a couple of atomic dropkicks.
The animation with Britain with the sword and saying come here you bloody commies actually made me have to stop the video because I was laughing so hard
The best part is I fully believe if a scenario such as this played out, Britain would react the same way. We shall go on to the end. We shall fight in France, we shall fight on the seas and oceans, we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we shall defend our island, whatever the cost may be. We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender
Especially with Thatcher over there at the time. I know she isn't particularly popular over there because of her conservative tendencies, but us conservative Americans like her. I know most people are liberal, so she gets a lot of hate.
When I enlisted in the Navy i had a similar discussion with a SEAL candidate. He was convinced that either China or Russia would invade, and he needed to "know how to defend against the Invaders". I don't think he ever got my point, which was a) logistical nightmare to ship troops of sufficient quantity to US soil, and b) since they would be landing on the west coast, and there are more guns in this country than there are people, they wouldn't be fighting the military alone. You invade, and you'd better be prepared to count every single person in the US as an armed combatant. We are basically a 345,000,000 strong militia, backing up the 5,000,000 or so troops, who are backing up the drones
He's a SEAL. He doesn’t need to worry about large scale logistics. The Navy does that for him. He fights where he is told to fight. He doesn't even need to hold land like the Marines do, just quick in and out missions.
When I first saw Red Dawn, I was confused as to why the Soviets would immediately invade American soil, like it's basically attacking a dragon in it's lair. If the Russians really did want to launch a war campaign, they'd have to take out America's minor allies like Japan.
Wouldn't attacking a dragon in it's lair be better than outside since it can't fly around as much and is hindered in mobility, while a knight or such is unhindered assuming it's well lit?

Javier Aravena America's was originally based on taking out cities w/ mustard gas (cuz it was first made in 1920). Canada's plan, Defense Scheme No. 1, involved a preemptive strike when war was clearly inevitable. Even then however, Canada wasn't likely to win and at the time RD takes place, there is a 0% chance of a Canadian Victory.
Well thats after USSR split, but if there is anything that would most likely be true it would be the quality of troops/ morale/ and supply lines of current day Russia vs Ukraine, just more massive on the scale with soviet block countries pitching in their own troops into the conflict.
NZ25 did I say the second amendment was bad? No I just said I think it’s dumb a bunch of untrained civs think they can stop Spetnaz paratroopers, let alone the regular army
It was a nightmare because those people where trained either by the US itself (Mujahideen, Taliban, Iraq) or by the Soviets (Vietnam, Korea, Cambodia) if the VDV paratroopers dropped here and faced a wave of civs with ARs it would be a bloodbath for the civs
NZ25 I’m not a communist lol I just accept the fact that if VDV paratroopers would decimate the civs trying time fight back, and your assuming these paratroopers wouldn’t have armoured support with them. A single APC or as they call it in Russia BTR would alone wipe out a whole neighbourhood of gun owners and even the national guard without any anti-armour equipment, the Russian military is no joke; Afghanistan, Chechnya, South Ossetia, and now the Crimea have proven that fighting what is often seen as “inferior” to the American military is no easy feat let alone possible without a proper defence plan.
NZ25 Not necessarily APC/BTRs provide infantry units too hence why they are called APC/BTRs which is the biggest threat to a militia since they are invulnerable to all forms of civilian and even some improvised explosives, and America isn’t dong well in the Middle East because they are losing politically not the physical war even then your comparing civs to a militarily trained organisation that has access to some real WMD which can and will down some armoured units. A “wall of bullets” is good but ultimately useless with armoured warfare hence why WW1 lasted so long until tanks came along and ended it in a couple of months.

It would be extremely easy- especially out in the Mountain West- for militias to be a pain to invaders. Not only do a lot of Flyover Country states have local informal militia groups already, but the wide open fields of the Rockies’ valleys, the West's prairies, and the open stretches of the deserts would... well, even the smallest towns out here hold high-powered long-range rifle shoot competitions (speaking in thousands of yards). Put two and two together.
The invasion itself would have been impossible. You're talking about mobilizing hundreds of thousands if not millions of men and all equipment and vehicles needed to support them, all completely undetected. Red Dawn would have played out like the 6 Day War between Israel and it's neighbors: the US and Canada see the hostile countries mobilizing, they launch a huge preemptive strike against Russia and the mobilized Latin American countries which immediately ends all hope the Soviets ever had about setting foot in North America while also crippling the armies of the Latin American countries. The war would end in weeks with the complete collapse of the Soviet Union (probably even further than in our time line) and the US occupying much of the hostile Latin American countries.
The US food supply in grocery stores is not that much. Major highways could be destroyed preventing people from getting food. Once the people run out of food they are less capable of defending themselves. That's when you would start the invasion. Major targets like the Pentagon, White House, Federal Reserve, and military bases could be bombed.
Red Dawn was one of my favorite movies growing up, and it just hit me 1. an invading army coming through Texas? they wouldn't even get through somewhere like Port Arthur or Vidor before saying fuck it, why bother 2. an invading army coming through Texas is like most Texans wettest dream come true. from legal enthusiasts to gangs, invading Texas would be like giving Afghanistan prep time and a budget 3. Red Dawn in Texas would have been an AWESOME movie
Un is a nut, but he isn't stupid. This is a country that built a fake city on the boarder to show "communist superiority" but can't afford to move their troops around their small country causing non military loyalists to do the transporting for them. This is a country who's media claims their leader invented the hamburger and was driving cars when he was four years old...while saying they win every Olympic event, and they have an ICBM that can reach the US. Excuse me while I take news from North Korea with a grain of salt. What is North Korea going to do after they launch their ONE missile? Oh, it strikes somewhere in the US...but the US has bigger more powerful weapons. NK would not have support from China, and would be alone in a war with the US and it'd be a repeat of Grenada but with an ICBM aimed at Pyongyang, and a ground force invasion of the country soon after. They would not have the forces to beat back American forces, and the war would be over quickly. It's a No-win scenario for North Korea, so there is no threat from the country. We are seeing a repeat of Pro-Iraq invasion propaganda from 15 years ago. They are the most dangerous regime in the world, they are building WMDs, they will kill us if we leave them to their own devices. Way to fall for fake news and party line propaganda.
My one and only actual gripe with the movie is that: in the movie it is stated that the Russians had captured Texas… how do you capture Texas and THEN and only THEN, do you get to something difficult.

By definition, an occupying force is a puppet Government. In World War II the Nazis set up a French Government called "Vichy France". While the members of the Government were French, they were placed their by the Germans. That French government was not independent. They did not form their own laws. They were given laws by the Germans, and any change in the law had to be approved. The French Revolution was a rebellion because the Governing body of France (the French royal family) was independent of any formal power.
No, I would call the IRA terrorists. The IRA didn't strike legitimate targets. They blew shit up with the goal of killing CIVILIANS. They were trying to kill Irish Protestants, not English solders.
You are deluded! The IRA killed more British soldiers than civilians. The Loyalist terrorists specifically targeted Catholic civilians and the IRA returned the favor.
2:37 I think it was explained in the movie by Powers Booth’s character that a lot of the US silos and defense systems were sabotaged by Cubans and Nicaraguans who’d infiltrated earlier. It’s mentioned that missile silos in the dakotas had been taken out, so that’s probably why it didn’t turn into a nuke fest. Also, regarding Mexico, they say it fell to a Socialist Coup d’tat, so they probably lay bolstered the numbers of soldiers for the Cubans. (I saw the movie the other day)
i agree with you. The Cuban military would have done the same thing they had done in the conflict in Angola send a bunch of military advisors and a few troops and military intellegence which at the time was far better than the soviets.
North America, particularly the US, is quite possibly the least conventionally invadable place on Earth. At least, if you want to have any chance of success. Not only would the enemy militaries somehow have to get a large enough force across one of two massive oceans, they would have to do so by getting past the US Air Force and the US Navy, easily the two most sophisticated military branches in the world. The troubles don't end there. Even if by some miracle they manage to land and even take territory then they'd have to deal with the Americans themselves. There are more guns than people in the US, and the majority of American households have at least one firearm (the ratio of guns to people in Wyoming is 9 to 1). That is an occupational nightmare for enemy troops, especially on foreign soil. The kind of armed resistance Americans could put up against an invading force would make the resistances in Iraq, Afganistan, and Vietnam look like playground fights.
A Scam Involving Corndogs Indeed. The biggest threat to our freedom comes from our own government. Which is, of course, why we have the second amendment. No foreign power could ever beat us on our own ground. We can only fall from within.
There is a book I have of short alternative history stories entitled " Cold War Hot " , in which many of the flare-ups of the cold war ( Korea , Vietnam , Afghanistan , etc. ) The last story is a completely imaginary piece about a land war in Europe between NATO and the Warsaw Pact . The method NATO uses to emerge victorious is very funny and not entirely improbable .

Just getting through Texas and all those gun owners would have been impossible. Creating a 2 front war (actually 3 fronts) is just suicidal. There's plenty of farmland there they can get food for the Soviet Union and the mountains would offer some degree of protection. Conquering the entire country would always be impossible.

@JayPlaysStuff sorry, it's easy to confused which human rights atrocities happened under which dictator when they have had so many
So ... it's not a famine per se. You can't just plant corn when you have no experience growing corn on a large scale and expect it to turn your land into the next Iowa.)
The movie takes place in the late autumn -- school is in full swing as well as the football season.

I remember reading an old interview with the Nikita Khrushchev and he said if Russia were to ever go to war with United States it would be purely nuclear, because every scenario they war gamed with a land Invasion ended in failure. Because the American people are so well-armed.
***** Yep!
theylied1776 more like USA military is so well armed and the logistics wouldn't work.
Basically every country comes up with contingency plans for invasion but Nikita Khrushchev was talking about how every scenario Russia came up with ended in disaster because the American people were too well-armed and too willing to fight.
theylied1776
+Ari Takalo it's not similar to the US invading Russia. But the reverse is so impossible it's not even worth discussing. For the US to invade Russia we would simply have to bloat our armies and get them into europe, which is not something we couldn't do.

yes as what they done would nuke them
Nonsense, all the going hot scenarios that were played as wargames by U.S.

They'd have to play their cards extremely well. It's not impossible, just unlikely.

"North Korea cant even feed themselves, how did they invade us?" 😂😂😂
realistically though 'Kimmy' just lets his people starve so he along with his inner circle and the military can stay fat and happy
At least the movie failed critically and even commercially at 50 million from its 65 million budget.
one dus not simple invade the us you need to feed them burgers
I would have just made it an alternate timeline where the USSR didn't fall. Mikhail Gorbachev does not come to power. Instead Grigory Romanov is chosen. Glasnost and Perestroika never happen. Instead we have no fall of the Berlin Wall, a "happy" East Germany and everything going la-dee-da until the years leading up to WWIII.
You don't have to feed your army if they are taking their supplies from the land, hence strategic importance for Iowa.
An invasion would be an absolute slaughter. The sheer amount of people that would jump at the opportunity to kill invading forces with impunity would be overwhelming. Also, a very large portion of us are either armed or overarmed.
We have 12 guns for every one person here I think overarmed is the low estimate
Don't forget NATO, and especially, in this scenario, Mexico and Canada
Its kind of hilarious that Red Alert 2 has a more "realistic" WW3 invasion of America plot than Red Dawn as the Soviets in that game, nutered NATO Nukes and has Mind Control to turn the US's Armed Population against them.

He's not very good at thinking.
He'll make an excellent soldier.

Cuba: invades Texas Everyone in Texas: (2nd amendment noise intensifies)
I highly doubt NRA members that can hardly put on a medical mask properly can stop a military that has been in active combat since its conception

Poklaan so far the most sane analysis in the comments
The US food supply in grocery stores is not that much. Major highways could be destroyed preventing people from getting food. Once the people run out of food they are less capable of defending themselves. That's when you would start the invasion. Major targets like the Pentagon, White House, Federal Reserve, and military bases could be bombed.

+Drew Baker (RoxRock) Exactly. Funny when we say we're "Protecting our freedom." When it's quite literally impossible to take away our freedom.

Thanks to computer simulations we can find out how a small group of modern fighter jets will do against a massive array of WW2 fighters. Only in a good simulation can such wild battles take place, without anyone getting hurt. To me it's the stuff of Sci-Fi.
To whom it may concern, my 3 favorite science fiction art books are :
- Wonderworks by Michael Whelan
- Great Fighter Jets of the Galaxy 1 by Tim Gibson
- Icon by Frank Frazetta
