    Really cool man! At age 14 i was pulling records from a goodwill and ran into a very eclectic collection that was literally Exc-NM condition. At .69cents a piece i walked out with 45 albums that day. I wish i had youtube back in 1997 to teach me about the do’s n donts. 💪🏽

    What a cool method! In all my years of collecting vinyl ( since age nine) I NEVER knew you could clean a record cover. I usually just put the record in a separate protective inner sleeve and put a protective cover over the dirty record cover. Basically I never clean them lol. Thankfully I mostly find dusty record covers or covers that show wear. Thanks again for posting this! I learned something new about vinyl once again.

    I use the same method but I typically leave the jacket out for a few hours to let it fully dry. Don’t want any sort of mold build-up.

    I use the same method. Another trick I have found to make the covers come back to life is using Goo gone in the spray bottle. I used it once trying to get an old sticker that was ripped. By accident I noticed it really made the cover shine. I typically ony use it on old records that I dont care to take a chance on. You may want to give it a try. Usually one good squirt on a paper towel will do one side. I always use the Clorox wipes first though. Great video. Cheers!

    You have to be careful with any kind of cleaning agent rubbed onto a record cover - they will begin to take off the color if you go too hard. Consider using a barely damp cloth instead, and look at how much dirt is being collected. I use a cloth and petroleum to clean covers and soapy water for the more stubborn grime - but only a tiny amount. Water is WET! For a long time I thought you could only clean the cellophane coated record covers that you get in Europe, but I have recently found that US record sleeves are also shiny to a degree and can also be cleaned with petroleum or water. Anyway, whatever cleaning agent or method you use; go slowly and know when to quit while you are ahead.

    Been using this method for ages. Good to use the Lysol wipes to get the albums clean but don't wipe too hard. Also squeeze out the excess liquid prior to wiping the covers. Also change out the inners sleeves and get rid of the old ones unless they have the lyrics or some sort of art. Use the plastic ones to keep the records static free.

    • @rydersrecordcollection2927
      @rydersrecordcollection2927  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I completely agree with all those methods, the Lysol wipes work like a charm!! Thanks for watching and commenting!!

      After putting the vinyl in a Mofi sleeve, I always store the original inner sleeve inside the jacket along with the vinyl.

    I also use Lysol. On records from thrift stores, I also wipe both sides of the inside. Often there is mold and musty smell that the Lysol will eliminate.

    Thank you for the video. I read a comment someone posted dissing your choice of music and I liked the way you responded to it.
    I live in Australia and I don’t think Lysol is sold here. Do you think any disinfectant wipes work in cleaning Vinyl covers?

    • @rydersrecordcollection2927
      @rydersrecordcollection2927  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you I appreciate that!! I would think so as long as they’re not dyed with any color or super wet with chemicals, the dye is the biggest thing. I would also do a test sleeve before trying it on a prized album. Thanks for watching, let me know how it goes for you!

      @@rydersrecordcollection2927 Thank you for replying. I tried it and it works great! Only thing is I should’ve used non scented wipes as the sleeves I’ve cleaned now have a little crisp apple scent to them, but oh well. Thanks for tips

  • @Muni517

    How do you know that vinyl covers are secure? Vinyl/plastic bags have a tendency to stick to the surface of things inside them with time. I wouldn't risk it.

    • @rydersrecordcollection2927
      @rydersrecordcollection2927  ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m not sure I follow your question, this is Sleeve cleaning and plastic sleeves are commonly used to preserve sleeves. I haven’t had any issues with sticking though

    I just tried this but had little to no effect. The ring wear was not affected at all and remains. But some of the lighter marks did come off. Thanks anyway

  • @Ricecooker64

    I restored my US white album. I got rid of the rings with an eraser. I flipped it and it has never looked better! Ps; It wasn't "dirty" it just went through the pain US copies endure such as "ringwear".

    Will this method help get rid of mold build up as well?

    • @rydersrecordcollection2927
      @rydersrecordcollection2927  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Depends on the amount of mold to be honest, if it's extremely moldy and it doesn't appear to go away I tend to not keep them. If it disappears and shows up looking like it wasn't there I think you're good. Hope that helps

      @@rydersrecordcollection2927 it got most of it off!!! It’s the Led Zeppelin II album. So it’s super super old. But the actual vinyl is in AMAZING shape. Just couldn’t put too much pressure on the cover because it doesn’t have that smooth surface like the newer ones have. So the paper was starting to rub off ahhh. I did the best I could though haha.
