    mine tomorrow in walnut. Fluance was running a 15% off sale so purchased for $425 plus tax. Really can't beat that. Will be running it through my Pioneer VSX-406 receiver, Alesis monitor one studio reference speakers that are old but sound very good. I have a home studio and these speakers produce a very true, natural sound. I have another setup in my family room with an Onkyo TX-SR600 5.1 receiver that unfortunately does not have a phono stage. Am thinking of upgrading the Onkyo to a Dolby atmos receiver with a phono stage or possibly getting a preamp so I can run the RT-85 in the bigger family room with NHT super two floor standing speakers and a Klipsch 10 inch subwoofer.

    Awesome finds! I remember getting an LP of Taj Mahal as a kid called ooh soo good in blues on Columbia records. Great blues album as well. Still have my old copy too. Also, need to get me a copy of that Lou Reed album as well. Nice to find a SGT. Peppers LP with the original inner sleeve. I have an OG stereo pressing on the Apple label with the original cut outs. Awesome additions Ryder! Taj’s “Statesboro Blues” was actually recorded a few years before the Allman’s version. Jesse Ed Davis plays slide guitar on “Taj Mahal” and after hearing the album, Duane Allman found a Coricidin bottle and learned to play slide himself.

    Just received that Studio One Classics RSD edition myself; I've had the original version on CD since it came out, but I've been grabbing some of these reissues Soul Jazz have been putting out of titles I missed on vinyl the first time around, couldn't pass this one up with the new cover (the original was kind of bland) and the purple vinyl. It's kind of a survey of some big songs from the Studio One label, hence the catch-all "Classics" title. You're correct, those reggae RSD releases don't get enough attention, not to most people's taste I guess, but also many seem to be released out of the UK so maybe not many copies make it to North America. Think I have that Captured Live around on the CD from the early 2000's. Grabbed that Wailing Souls recently as well, absolute essential, I have an original but couldn't resist this expanded edition. Still get goosebumps from that title track after all these years. When the reggae hits you, you feel no pain ;-) Glad to discover your channel and subbed of course, been repping the reggae music on mine for a few years now from up here in Canada. Cheers!

    Hi! You appear to have your speakers directly on the cabinet with the record deck on. Years ago I had a girlfriend who did the same thing and I could hear it was a problem - the vibrations from the speakers were felt by the record deck and it started a feedback loop of sorts. I pondered for many years how to deal with this situation and finally came up with a cheap solution a couple of years ago. Sorry, I don’t know the name; there is a device, such as a little vinyl pad that you fit onto a wall to prevent a door handle from crashing into it and causing damage. They look like cubes of chocolate and come in various colors and are self adhesive. Stick one of these on each corner at the bottom of your speakers and the vibrations are gone. They even look pretty cool. 😀

  • @elvisonwax
    @elvisonwax 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    It’s difficult to assess by eye, but there are some records that need cleaning more than once - the first time only seems to redistribute the gunk. Of course, some never come right, and one in 50(?) may actually sound worse. Try to decide if records need cleaning; if they don’t, leave them alone. I play a lot of records now that I would have sidelined in the past, though they are worn I now know they are clean and don’t fear for my stylus.

    • @rydersrecordcollection2927
      @rydersrecordcollection2927 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I completely agree, there have been a few in my collection that have taken multiple clean cycles to get everything off. I definitely think cleaning is part of prolonging the life of a record though!

  • @elvisonwax
    @elvisonwax 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    You have to be careful with any kind of cleaning agent rubbed onto a record cover - they will begin to take off the color if you go too hard. Consider using a barely damp cloth instead, and look at how much dirt is being collected. I use a cloth and petroleum to clean covers and soapy water for the more stubborn grime - but only a tiny amount. Water is WET! For a long time I thought you could only clean the cellophane coated record covers that you get in Europe, but I have recently found that US record sleeves are also shiny to a degree and can also be cleaned with petroleum or water. Anyway, whatever cleaning agent or method you use; go slowly and know when to quit while you are ahead.

  • @elvisonwax
    @elvisonwax 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Two factors really made my interest in records take off, and they happened decades after first buying music on vinyl: one was cleaning records. Vintage records are often marked down in price because they look dirty and mishandled. They are NOT irredeemable! Naturally, record stores don’t have time to clean up everything that comes through the door (that’s our job!) and so they tend to sideline items that are not especially rare or valuable. That’s why it’s always worth looking in the cheap record bins. Learn how to clean records- it can be as simple as dishwashing liquid and warm water. Develop your own method until you are happy with it. The other habit I have developed over time is of critically assessing the sound of the components in my stereo set up. It’s a sad fact that not all turntables/cartridges/amps/speakers combine to make a pleasing sound - some do it better than others and you can only learn through experimentation. Vintage (80s and 90s) hi fi gear is easy to find at low prices- experiment by changing out your components sometimes; you might hear something amazing. After years of buying record decks new, I now run two decks from the 1970s, which I bought for peanuts, and they are amazing. And, like cleaning records, buying hifi is fun to do!

    Fun fact! The cover art for the America album was done by the late, great, Phil Hartman (spelled "Hartmann" on the cover). I saw him on Letterman years ago and he talked about it. He also did an album cover for Poco.
