  • Do your vinyl records have dirty jackets? Are they stained? Have soiled ring wear? Make them clean and nearly new with the Simple Green miracle technique. I'll show you how in this Vinyl Community video.

    Thanks for posting. I do the same process with my vinyl covers too, with just a couple of modifications. First I place a microfiber cloth on the surface of the table before I place the jacket down and the second thing I discovered is no chemical cleaner is instantaneous. The cleaner needs time to chemically break down the oils and imbedded dirt. My first wipe is just to "wet" the cover then I give it 30 seconds to work before I wipe and respray my cloth.

    I used eraser on the White Album which has a semi-gloss finish. So it came out good enough. PS I added brand new black poly-lined sleeves to pay an homage to the UK LOL! I also cleaned the disks.

    A simple damp rag will work just fine. No need to use any sort of degreaser or cleaner.

    Will have to give it a try, especially on the records I find from time to time. If you come across records by Joe Chitwood under the labels DeBesth and Vision Ranch Productions. Give them a Spin I’m on some of them.

    You need to place your LP jacket on a soft towel surface. Rubbing on the jacket and having it moving around on a hard surface might inflict damage on it.

    Will Simple Green cause any color fading long term?

    • @ToneInGrooves
      @ToneInGrooves  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Good question, Chuck. Honestly can't say for sure. I've been using Simple Green on jackets for probably 5 years at least and I haven't noticed any fading. I also don't clean every single jacket in my collection - just those that are exceptionally dirty and/or stained. So I wouldn't even be able to say for sure which 5 year old jackets were cleaned. WD-40 then simple green only for glossy covers though

    • @ToneInGrooves
      @ToneInGrooves  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah, on flat jackets it soaks in quick and wreaks havoc. Have to be be careful with spots of sticker-pull on glossy jackets, too. Thanks for watching and commenting. Skol! Jeff

    My mother passed away in 2021 and she was a heavy smoker. I inherited her vinyl collection but most are paper covers and stained yellow and stink of smoke. Is there anyway to clean these safely?

      Clean the vinyl records and then put them in new inner sleeves from Vinyl Storage Solutions.

      @@Jizzlewobbwtfcus the cardboard record cover can retain smells such as smoke and must. After I clean the record and put it in a new sleeve I slide a dryer sheet in also then I place the albums in a plastic storage tote with baking soda and charcoal bag and seal it shut for almost 2 months you may have to replace the baking soda and charcoal bag if they are really stinky. But it works.

      @ToneInGrooves  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Roger! Just be careful on non-glossy jackets or on areas of sticker-pull that has removed the lamination. If non-glossy areas get wet and then are rubbed with the cloth - it can be bad news. Thanks for watching and commenting. Skol! Jeff

      Great question, Kent! Honestly - don't know that I've tried that. I usually just do a once-over. But I would think so. Just have to make sure that it's completely dry before going at it again with the Simple Green. Thanks for watching and commenting. Skol! Jeff
