Ive never had an issue getting air out of a master cylinder - thats why Im a master mechanic :) Seriously though - when you "Bench bleed" a master like that, expect to loose ALL the paint off of your freshly restored car as it now just goes every where. Bench bleeding in my opinion is simply a bad idea.
With the dual braking system, what makes the front piston in the master cylinder come back, to suck in more fluid from the reservoir, when you take your foot off the brake pedal?

The pressure acting on the second piston as the fluid returns, thus pushing the first piston back
