I was there when they recorded this performance. It was magical. Forrest did something perfect with the urgency of the strings pushing that movement forward underneath the majestic and familiar chords. It conveys the feeling that something huge is happening, just over the hill, and you should drop whatever you were doing and come run with us to see it. The joy on the faces of some of these young singers is unforgettable.
Great analysis. I still prefer John Williams’ version from Home Alone 2 though. That version, which was filmed at Orchestra Hall in Chicago (although in the movie it’s represented as Carnegie Hall in New York), has such strength and I haven’t been able to find a version as powerful and inspirational.
A truly gifted composer/arranger whose understanding of layering textures is masterful. The final key change half way through final verse brings on the goosebumps. Bravo arrangement!
The dancing of the melody between vocal parts is exquisite. The complexity an dissonance creating both familiarity and newness. Dan Forest, you rock sir!
I turned the volume up to the highest setting , I sat back and watched and listened to this majestic performance. The arrangement is awesome. Celestial. Thank you!
I absolutely love this arrangement! The fog and dreariness of 2:00 a.m. insomnia dissipates as I am briefly lifted up to the company and voices of angels.
We sing a SSAA arrangement of this as the finalie of our Idaho Falls Choralaires Christmas concert annually. I can't sing or hear it without getting goosebumps.
I must say, the string line is my favorite part of this arrangement. It was amazing to be in the chorus when we did this with the RPO a few months ago. Truly a grand piece.
It amazes me how the guys in Men's Chorus look exactly the same as they did when I was in there ten years ago. (Though Sister Hall has a whole new look, which is fantastic.) Great sound as expected!
I wish I could sing with #BYU #COMBINED #CHOIRS THIS IS ONE OF MY FAVORITES! HOW DO I AUDITION FOR ONE OF THE CHOIRS? #BYU IS THE BEST FROM EAST TO WEST THE #COUGARS ARE THE BEST!😀😁⛰🌎
This is awesome! I made a piano cover of this in my channel because someone requested but I really enjoyed this one. Thanks for sharing! Keep them coming! =)
This is one of my favorite songs that you have done. If I wanted to audition for one of the choirs how would I go about it? How often are auditions held? what majors could I put the choir towards for college credit?
hello, please pardon my username. it isn't the message i intend to bring. excellent performance, awesome. i suggest you remove the video ads at the end of the video. it obstructs and ruins perfection. people know how to navigate the internet, lol. they know how to find the other videos you have to offer. thank you for the upload, merry christmas!
I agree with you about the ad at the end. It also makes it hard for me to figure out how well the audience responded at the end. I would hate it if the response was tepid given how phenomenal it was. If someone could tell me how the audience responded at the end of the concert, I'd highly appreciate it.
Yet they say Jesus was only a man. May the Living God open their eyes to TRUTH! Revelation 19:12-13; John 1:1 You are the Christ! Matthew 16:16 The LIVING GOD Jeremiah 10:10 Hebrews 1:3 Repent or perish! Luke 13:3
TruthLightHouse: You fabricate nonsense and then shoot it down. hahahahahaha The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has never said that "Jesus was only a man" rather it teaches that Jesus was a member of the Godhead in his premortal life. He was the firstborn spirit son of God the Father. It was he who created the earth. It was he who accepted the Father's plan for his spirit children to enter mortality to gain a body, take a test, and develop a Christ-like character. It was he (Jehovah, Lord, the coming Messiah, etc.) who called and spoke to all the Old and New Testament prophets and revealed his will to them and had them record it, which we now have in the scriptures. It was he who volunteered to come to the earth, take on a mortal body and become "the only begotten of the Father in the flesh," restore the fullness of his gospel, live an exemplary life, and then provide an atonement by 1: suffering for the sins of all mankind, 2: dying on the cross, 3: being resurrected with a physical, immortal body so that all mankind will also be resurrected and also have the opportunity of eternal life with him and the Father by "doing the will of the Father." Jesus Christ was the Son of God in his premortal, mortal, and post-mortal life. As a member of the Godhead, he has always and will always have the title of "God." In Acts 3: 19-21 we are told that Christ will not return until there has been a "restitution of all thing." It also says that this isn't new news. It has been spoken of "by all the holy prophets since the world began." In the book of Isaiah Jesus Christ states that in the last days he will "proceed to do a marvelous work and a wonder." He began that process in 1820 when he and the Father appeared to and called a prophet to assist him in this restitution of all things. What did Jesus do? He restored the fulness of the gospel just as he did when he came to the earth. He sent John the Baptist to restore the Aaronic Priesthood which gives the authority to perform baptisms. He sent Peter, James, and John to restore the Melchizedek Priesthood and the office of apostle, which has the authority to give the "Gift of the Holy Ghost" and to become the authority to govern his church, what the scriptures refer to as the "Kingdom of God on the earth." He sent Moses to restore the keys of the gathering of Israel, He sent Elijah to restore the sealing keys. He sent the angel Moroni (as John had prophesied in the Book of Revelation, "And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven having the everlasting gospel to preach to them that dwell on the earth." This also fulfilled the prophesy in Ezekiel 37 where the Lord, speaking in the first person, commands that two records be kept, one for the tribe of Judah (the Bible) and one for the tribe of Joseph and his son Ephraim (Book of Mormon) and that these two books of scripture would become "One in my hand" in the last days. Jesus Christ has established his restored church on the earth. He is the head. He works through apostles and prophets called by him to govern the affairs of is church. See Amos 3:7
Beautifully presented, moving strings beneath. I’m only sorry that choir members try to smile while singing. It’s not physically possible for many people, which is whyit looks contrived and unnatural. Maybe better to let them be who they are at the moment. But the music itself is wondrous and wonderful. Thanks!

That's a beautiful job of putting the meaning of Forrest's arrangement into words. I felt that but I couldn't articulate it.
Just wishing I could just skip to Christmas time to hopefully escape all the problems were facing
Can't you though; thanks to this posting?
Still the most beautiful piece of Christian music I've ever heard. And I'm an orthodox Jew.
Dan Forrest is a genius, and the BYU Choirs do a magnificent job performing his pieces.

There really aren't any black people in Utah haha. I love this though, it's beautiful.
You really don't know what you are talking about. 86.84% are white, 13.67% are Hispanic, 2.2% are Asian, 1.1% are Black, 1.8% other
