    Old players of Archeage definitely have an advantage over us new players in most respects. Some of us needed a damn youtube tutorial in order to figure out how to get our labor to start. They assumed too much and we new players got left in the dust. (cough, cough, cough.) It sucks but the exploits have amplified this advantage. lol. I love this game too so far but the Archepass seemed odd. Login awards seem better to me.

    That's true, most of ,,old school players" don't have enough time these days to stay relatively competitive and youngsters are not very interested in MMO/RPG in general for some reason. It might be the downfall going forward and it's possible that AAU is the last time that we can enjoy MMO/RPG even if it is for the last time..

    • @PaulDoesDamage
      @PaulDoesDamage  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well there's different types of MMORPGs also. Some like AAU really eat up 5+ hours a day easily, some others like Lost Ark take 3 easily and there's GW2 which you can be competitive with only 1-2 hours daily .

    • @elfs31
      @elfs31 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@PaulDoesDamage That's true, but if you want solely competitive game you go for overwatch or cs go or even fortnite, lol, etc.. MMO gives you a chance to ,,live" and enjoy the game itself instead of playing just for being competitive. I mean it's fun to fight and try to be one of the best, but mmo's gives you an opportunity to relax and enjoy peaceful moments in the same ,,in-game world" in which you try to be competitive. Maybe I'm getting old but I'm enjoying peaceful moments more than I used to, but that thrill of pvp are there, especially when you know that you can be attack basically anytime, that's why AAU is a perfect game for me, tho LA was great fun in KR too.

      @@elfs31 Well put. Everything you said is correct.
      It all depends on the type of person you are, if your desire to experience the archeage world outweighs desire to be competetive you will have no issues playing.
      But if it is vice-versa, you will feel a burden from all the chores in the game.
      Sadly, there is no NON-P2W - old patch no grind kind of server around except maybe AAFree private which is pretty dead.
      ArcheRage private is uber p2w even more than the official.
      The game is simply not meant to be.
      Luckily Ashes of Creation is prolly gonna replace Archeage entirely.

    If you don't have more time you need to craft a larder just to burn your labor and you need a land to do it. Also you need to join a daily raid for hiram gear it's a lot more faster. Upgrade house to make faster farming, car, speedboat can make faster trade run and make a life easy in Archeage. Thatched farm house that make you faster in mining or farming. Crafting house that make you craft more faster.

    Exactly what I noticed when i played it when it launched. I had 2 months off and invested 8-16 hours daily into the game. Was able to pull ahead in the arena but when i had to go back to study i fell behind really fast and couldn't keep up anymore. That's when I decided for myself that it is best to leave the game behind.

    • @PaulDoesDamage
      @PaulDoesDamage  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I also played the 2 month alpha way back, but i didn't feel this behind. I'm 100% sure tho, it's because of the exploits that people took advantage of, because I really pushed it and they're still way ahead.
      Guess everything is gonna be leveled out in time. A lot of time.

  • @sonicpebble
    @sonicpebble 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Here is the thing. The people who play this game hardcore have multiple accounts on multiple computers (even in this unchained version trying to stop this), for labor regen, and using the alts to do the processing of goods or owning land etc. THAT is how you get ahead in this game... and that is also how gifting, even once a month, can get out of control and be used to elevate a main character (it is best not to be there).
    The DPS meter not being around is a good thing... is not such a big issue in truth because in in endgame you are basically just doing PVP (as a guild, on the sea, while fishing or in your trade runs etc)... your gearscore will let you know how you are doing, and your PING. The game centers around out-gearing your opponent as best you can, and/or being good at breaking CC's and countering. 80% of this game is getting CC'd in some way in pvp.. the great players can avoid/mitigate this better than most.
    The Archepass was total crap though... clearly geared towards those who don't like/want to do the farming side of things. Basically the hardcore pvp-only players. It was a chore to do, and you are right, took you away from enjoying/exploring all the rest of the game. I hope they simply put it onto a 3-month timer and you get rewarded for logging in, or completing a monthly event of some sort... there are so many other things to do and it was not making the game fun.
    Getting land and building houses etc... is a real pleasure in this game, and feels like an accomplishment. Great fun, if PVP is not your thing. Fishing as well.
    Finally, when you get to the naval battles, the Leviathan and Kraken etc.. that is where this game really shines.

    • @PaulDoesDamage
      @PaulDoesDamage  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think for me it's the fact that I'm comparing myself with the people who exploited the ArchePass.
      I think that's the reason I feel so behind, and it's gonna take a lot of time for things to level out.

    • @sonicpebble
      @sonicpebble 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PaulDoesDamage And yes, you are exactly right. It is impossible to catch those people. Really the best solution would be server wipes and start over... but it's too late for that. Which is very sad. I feel the way you do too!
      On land rush day I watched as 4 people were able to completely cover a huge plot of land with farmhouses... which should not have been possible at that time. Had the archepass not been giving them so much labor and Gilda stars. Basically it gave them a couple months worth of a head start there. And that is not even including their gear.
      But the good news is that there is so much to do in this game, so many different ways to play that in a few months time it will level out somewhat and become enjoyable again. I know from the past that most of those gear-rushers will leave after 4-6 months anyways, because they get into petty arguments, piss people off, or because they feel bored due to others not wanting to pvp them anymore. It'll settle down then.
      The main way to have fun is by getting into a guild that likes to do the things you do... ie: pvp, FarmVille, fishing raids, pirate. The game is okay playing on your own but absolutely great when in a good guild.

    • @PaulDoesDamage
      @PaulDoesDamage  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sonicpebble Fair point with the gifting being exploited from multiple accounts actually.. Didn't think that people can actually have 10 accounts and even 1 gift / month would be a lot then. I heard they're not allowing more than 3 accounts/person tho? But then again who can really control that..
      Also, are people so crazy in AAU that they'd actually buy 6-7 games, and keep re-logging, just to gift? :D

It's the main reason I left WoW: BfA (fucking hate seasonal reset bullshit of modern WoW) for WoW Classic (contrary to popular belief, vanilla WoW was über casual). I appreciate reviews like this, MMOs need deeper reviews than just first impressions, even if we're talking about the re-release of an old one.

      so you were questing during war time? why? leave for and hour and come back and watch them run in fear from you. there is a buff for lower level player that make them A LOT harder to kill during non-war times. during war times is about the only time you will get your cheeks clapped as a lower level. also the buff scales on your level difference. Been plenty of times when me and other people at like ancestral level 5 ran away from a group of level 30's.

    As an european archeage PK (Player Kill) Legend, i can give you some advice to keep up with like 5 h a day.
    First upgrade only your weapon to atleast divine.
    Then buy 2 other accounts. Lvl them up as archer or Darkrunner for fast farming.
    Go to hiram and farm coinpurses. Dont open crate on your alts. Only coinpurses.
    If you are tryhard regrade your alts weapon to divine aswell.
    Or you make big farm and spam cheap packs but for that you need to get 16x16 farms on all alts and make an farm hauler on every alt.
    In endgame coinpurse farm is really really good cause you spend only 18-20 Lp each coinpurse instead of 35. Good money without doing nothing.
    You dont need to spam daylis everyday.

    What i hate the most is the western mentality of players in general and in this game, because Archeage really allows and enhances this mentality which im going to explain now. So if you have a little bit of time to read this go ahead.
    Western gaming mentality is totally different from the eastern gaming mentality, just take a look at Archeage in Korea for example. Here in the west people take these games dead serious (dont get me wrong, i take it serious too, its not "just playing a videogame" for me and i play everything in a competitive nature… but there are still differences from being a competitive player, a casual or.. well what im going to explain now, i dont even know how to call it.) and they do everything to get an edge over others, they run 5+ accounts on one machine and stuff like that, they live for that shit. in Korea for example they dont look for exploits, they rather just play the game. Because if they would use an exploit they would get banned permanently from multiple games. They have way better and higher standards in that regard. As i said, here people run 5 accounts on one computer while 3 accounts, at max, are allowed, and even then not on the same computer (multiboxing). Still pretty much EVERYONE who plays the game competitively (leaderbords) does it (it really is necessary) and doesnt get banned, and if they get one of the alt accounts banned they buy a new one, change IP and do it again. This games economy and hope for a fair competitive nature is already destroyed this shortly after release. And there is absolutely no way to create an equal and fair competitive environment for this game in the future unless they wipe all servers and start over again with different policies and security standards. And we all know this will not happen. They completely fucked every chance of creating a fair version of Archeage. I had some fun with the game but it has no future like this. I absolutely hate this western mentality in that regard, it has nothing to do with tryharding or "being good" in a game anymore. A game that requires you to run multiple accounts on multiple computers (or in this case on one computer because they cant stop it) to be "up there" is just not enjoyable and misses the spirit of competitive gaming in my opinion, and i would not call myself a casual by any means. Its just sad what gaming has become over the years. RIP ArcheAge Unchained.

    I hate that u have to do everything everyday at a set time to stay competetive. Ofcourse thats a big point in MMO's, but sometimes im just bullshitting half the evening with some people and not really doing anything. It creates a competetive ( and most of the time a shitty community ). That was a big part of me quitting Aion for example, along with the obvious P2W in that game. I dont need a 2nd job. After work i like to play some games, but when it starts feeling like a 2nd job, im out

With 3 hours a day to play you can still get stuff done, have some fun and CAN stay competitive. Can you stay SUPER competitive? I dont think so. You'd have to abuse some mechanics in order to do that and not sure if you'd want that. I also think its just a matter of time until the abuse of Archepass is evened out by other players. Anw. Not necessarily, i have a friend who is super competitive and yeah both have less time for gaming since we are not in our 20ties anymore but non the less, some casual would spent hours in Archeage finding a perfect spot to watch the sunset or something, my friend spends his limited time only on activities that would progress his character. Being efficient with your time is also a merit. Just because we grow old and have less time for certain hobbies doesn't mean we are not interested in being competitive. :)

    Bro you can't be top tier competiive player with 3 hrs of gaming per day why would you ever cosider this as an option.
    Infact you can not be competive in anything if you are investing 3 to 4 hrs per day.
    After all the original studio is Trion, same goes with RIFT you got shitload of stuff to do, and they are like all super important.

    • @PaulDoesDamage
      @PaulDoesDamage  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well in most MMORPGs 3/4 hours a day gets you to a very good spot in 5-6 months.
      But that's not actually my problem. I can get there in AAU too, the problem is - after I get there - have I had any of my "fun time" during this process?
      It's not hard to do the needed things in AAU, it's just hard to do those + what you wanna do - like riding a donkey.

    • @Xromiq
      @Xromiq 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PaulDoesDamage While I absolutely understand you I think that the same applies in RL. You want to have all the things that you would like but not to invest all your time.
      If you dont have the time, maybe the key is to prioritize what you would you like to have/do most.
      We all have to drop something to gain something else and usually the process is not fun all the time.

      @goyaskill 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PaulDoesDamage I would prefer it too, but I do understand their reasoning. My little brother plays with me, we have 3 accounts in total in this house. I don't know how one would go about to prove that's indeed what's happening or just the same person playing so yeah, I get their reasoning behind it even though I would prefer just one. Now, it's still a b2p considering this right? A gift would be a direct exchange of cash to gold and that is something that has a profound effect on the economy and not a good one. Even if just one a month, I will always say no to that

    • @PaulDoesDamage
      @PaulDoesDamage  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@goyaskill As a long term AA player do you think gold has a huge impact on the game, or a big impact, or just a moderate one? And why?
      Asking because from what i've seen (in the Unchained version specifically) - yes you need gold, to throw into the gear enchant, to buy hereafter stones, to temper, etc. You also use it to buy anything on the AH - which means a direct LP impact, as in you'll save more LP.
      So I get that gifting would have an impact, but will it really be that bad, in 2019? I will trust you guys here, more than I trust my mixed feelings, which tell me the game would be more... attractive with gifting :D
      Another question that I actually wanted to make a video about - what if Dilligence products would be all giftable, no limit to the ammount you can gift from that shop?
      I mean, it's more food for thought than anything else really, but was just thinking that if you get dilligence by playing the game, and you get gold by playing the game, then nobody has any argument against selling dilligence for gold, right?
      It's like selling your harvested bananas.
      But now comes my punchline - wouldn't this ruin the balance of the game more then? Even if, as I said above, there's no reason to call this P2W?

      and you also have people that because there is no DPs meters they just the bare minimum hoping to get carried. DPS meters stop those people, if you dont want dps meters you prob also like to get carried and just do afk runs while the other people actually put in the effort.

      I disagree. DPS meters are the best thing to ever happen to MMO's. Makes it much easier to weed out garbage players who dont pull their own weight

    • @valfreyaaurora4922
      @valfreyaaurora4922 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      DPS meter isnt really required in AA. There aren't many bosses that are based on your gear/dps. It's not really a thing. End-game content is very well designed. Thunderwing Titan - you don't use your own skills, you use the special event skills. Kraken, Leviathan, abyssal, naval battles use the galleon's cannons not your gear. There's some dungeons and things that require a certain ability or threshold, but not like in WoW or something. It's just not the same. So really, it's just PVP - and I dont know if you'd use a dps meter in pvp or not.
