This is an interesting distro, I love that it asked me to install propietary GPU drivers (nvidia). But it is still immature. Disk encryption is in beta version now, if you install Firefox in 3 different subsystems, still just one can be open at a time. Not everything works well, they still change this distro version to version, so it need one, two, three years before we can seriously use it. But the idea behing Vanilla is great.

did you try using sudo? i have no clue what the permission hierarchy is in VOS but i always use sudo for installing and modifying applications because some commands don't have warnings for it
I had very similar problems with Vanilla version 1. I was very excited about the OS but these problems are deal killers. Sad to see it's not any better in v2.
I also got the same problems. Vanilla OS 1 has been a really great experience for me but Orchid is just so difficult. It's too different compared to Vanilla OS 1.

What makes you take that decision? Any particular thing you like in elementary?
Besides GNOME light/dark theming can you install gnome extension and do a tiny bit of customization on Vanilla OS?
