  • *Why the h*ll is Apple making a fast/powerful computer unable to support 2 external monitors. In this video, I show you how to work around it w/ my OWC 14-Port Dock hub..
    ----
    COMMON QUESTIONS
    Q: Can I watch Netflix on it?
    A: I heard some people said Netflix didn't play perfectly w/ the Monitor using DisplayLink but when I tested it, I didn't have any issue. I guess watch Netflix on the monitor not using DL if you have an issue.
    Q: Will monitors stay on if lid closed
    A: Yes
    Q: What resolution/refresh rate am I using & will it work in 4k
    A: I'm using 1920x1080 @ 60hz & you need to get the 4k adapter I listed below for 4k to work
    Q: How come the resolution is not as sharp when in portrait mode?
    A: Not sure. It's just like that. Sucks. Not sure if it's the adapter or the DisplayLink driver.
    Q: Will this work with the MacBook Air M1?
    A: It should. Though I haven't rested.
    Q: Do I have to use your fancy shmancy hub?
    A: Any hub w/ USB that the adapter can connect to should work.
    Q: What if I want to put up more that 2 monitors?
    A: Check out Ruslan's video ytube.io/3BZt

    Thanks again for the video. Quick question for you though. Is this limitation a hardware limitation of the new machine layouts or something that can/will be addressed in an OS update going forward? I would stomach the 1 external monitor for a few months if it meant saving on the additional tech. Thanks

    Hi Reynald,
    Congrats for the amazing videos!
    Can I ask you a question?
    I am wondering weather can I use the Dysplaylink: @t to activate 2 monitors to my MacBook Air, both of them to be connected to a normal hub station which in turn, will be linked to the usb-c doors of the MacBook itself.
    Once I did this, I was thinking about using a hdmi door of the normal hub for one monitor, and the remaining hdmi door of the displaylink adaptor for the second monitor.
    What do you suggest?
    Hope you can reply to my comment, it will be very helpful!
    Thanks!

    • @ReynaldAdolphe
      @ReynaldAdolphe  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you Federico! What you mentioned sounds fine and should work. Basically, you can add one external monitor to your MBA M1 with no issue either directly or through a hub. To add a 2nd monitor, you need the DisplayLink adaptor. I don’t have a MBA M1 but assuming it can use the same solution as the MBP M1 in the video.

    I purchased the one you have linked in the description and followed all the steps. I have two monitors a 4k monitor and a 2569x1440. For the 4k monitor, I connect that directly from hdmi and I use the pluggable to connect my 2560X1440 monitor. When I connect it through pluggable, it only shows the max scaled dimension as 1920x1080 and not the max resolution it supports but if I connect it via regular hdmi there is no issue. Any thoughts on how to fix that?

    As is can the macbookair support a 4k monitor at 60mh? On a 4k monitor will it provide the sharper/clearer text without it becoming too small? A salesperson at best buy told me the MacBook Air would only display 1080p so it's no advantage to get a 4k monitor. That doesn't sound right. Can you clarify this?

I've had no issue but my monitors are 1080p. / Macbevaior is great but made a video about the mouse/sleep issue for monitors and how to get around it. Check them out. / Bro, it is soooo silent like it's not even on. Even when I use After effects for rendering. The idea to pay over 3k for a computer that yells at me is insane. No more. If you mean the laptop display is not working, I think you can extend it but just test it first before buying.

    Does the Dock you are using connect to the M1 back through the equipped USB - C port or do I need another adapter?

    • @ReynaldAdolphe
      @ReynaldAdolphe  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The dock connects to your computer. The adapter is needed to connect an additional 2nd external monitor. You don't need the adapter or dock if you're just using one external monitor. For two monitors, you technically (I think-don't quote me) don't even need the dock if you use both usb-c ports on the mac (one for each monitor) & use a dongle to convert the USB to usb-c for the adapter but I haven't tried that.

      @@ReynaldAdolphe I’m asking about the connection between the dock and the computer. Is it the usb - c connection? My new M1 MacBook only has 2 USB-C ports. So if the dock doesn’t use that port I would need a USB-C to whatever connection it is

      That might work without a docking station but I recommend docking station or USB-C hub to have that port available for when you need it on your Mac. Up to u though. But most important you do need is that mini display port adapter.

    • @ReynaldAdolphe
      @ReynaldAdolphe  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can try but my understanding is that the M1 MacBook Pro will not support two monitors on its own so you will likely still need to use displaylink & get the pluggable adapter I mentioned in the video to connect to some docking station. I used ocw 14 port but there are cheaper ones too.
