Any TH-camr Swiss trip "expert advisor" can talk about cheese, chocolate and fundu, but you guys bring Switzerland out into a whole different light. Many congrats on your gain of 10.6K subscribers 🙂
I am employed 100%, as an Engineer (not IT), living alone in a 2 rooms apartment in 8037, with a car and a garage (200 CHF) and I can save CHF 1'500, and still having around CHF 700 to do whatever I want with them. I find it more than enough, and I am 25 years old.
@@sujayroy1882 In switzerland your workload on the contract can be between 10 and 100% oficially. So you can work 80% meaning 4 days a week let s say and get paid for those.
Hey guys, thank you so much for the effort you make doing these videos. All these videos about the salary, the cost of living, and the lifestyle are interesting and useful for people interested in moving to Switzerland. We really appreciate the work you are doing. Great job guys! A meetup it would be a great idea! Greeting from Spain.
You guys supported my whole Move-to-Switzerland-Journey since the beginning. I was in Lucerne, Zürich and Bern last week for some job interviews and now I can chose if I want to move to Bern oder Zürich! So I would love to meet you guys in person, but the relocation will be in May/June...
Hello there Claudia and Jan! I'm from Spain, I love your channel and the way you do the videos :) I'm finishing my superior school of software developer and studying english so hard. I've been living in Ireland for almost 6 months. I'm preparing myself to move in the future to Switzerland. Hope the best for both of your and I'll be ready for the next video 😄
Hello David I'm from Spain too and I'm doing a higher vocational training and after a top-up in Ireland, when I will finish my Top-Up I'm gonna live in Switzerland. Is there any chance that are you doing the same?
Hi Claudia and Jan, congrats on the 10k subs. You really deserve it, i have watched you since you had less than a 1000 and you keep producing very good content. I dont know your expectations for the meet up but remember that a lot if not the majority of people watching your videos like me are probably in other countries trying to learn from you that live there so yh, a lot of us probably would like but it just isnt possible due to the distance. Anyway, congrats again and hope the best for your future.
Looks pretty accurate. If you decide to save for some retirement plan (3rd pillar), this can be another 300-600 CHF/month. Also, taxes are canton-dependent, so your net salary will change depending on the canton you live in, with Zuirch having some of the smallest taxes.
My current situation in Sydney, Australia (here salaries aren't that high, nowhere near Swiss levels, but everything is nearly as expensive, we have 5-6% inflation rate and went up as high as 7-8%). Salary - $90k (50k CHF) Taxes - $22k Monthly salary - $5.6k Rent - $2000 Health insurance - $0 Food - $900 Internet/mobile - $100 Energy/utilities - $150 Car Expenses - $150 Car Insurance - $150 Entertainment - $300 Total Expenses: $3750 Left Over: $1850 (I wish i didn't need the car, maintenance costs at least $500 per year, which I didn't include.). I spend little on clothes, may be $200-$300 per year. I didn't include vacation, but my current job gives me 5 week of leave, so around $3-$4k every 2-3 years, but that's Asian travel, Europe would be more expensive. I aim to save $2000 per month, or $500 per week. Entertainment sometimes is less, but other costs are constant. I'm single, it's a lot harder to survive on $90k if you have a child. Pretty much families need $200k to survive if they have two children. Saving is a mindset, cost cutting exercise, having said that, if someone pays no rent (living with parents) they can survive easily on $50k per year. Love the channel, keep it up!
I pay exactly 350 CHF for health insurance, and since it'smy forth month in Zurich I wanted to see how much I spend on food and i spent 270chf in september. It's definitely not only pasta, actually I dont eat pasta almost ever, and I treat myself to whatever I want. Maybe the costs for others are higher because people order in, or dine out. I love to cook and almost always prepare my own food. I am a Vegetarian btw, so fruits and vegetables are not exactly cheap, so again I am totally fine with 250chf a month for just me.
We are a young couple from Spain living and working in Zurich! We would love to join the meet up, going to a Christmas market and having a gluhwein all together would be a great plan!❤
Hello! How do you both feel in Zurich as immigrants? Do you speak fluent German and did that help setting up and get more respect from people who were born there? Thank you and best of luck!
Hi guys! Thanks for the video ❤. I want to make a suggestion for the next video. You can just count how many years you should save money for buying an apartment or a house in Switzerland. This is kind of a natural continuation of topic salaries, savings, housing and owning. Thanks so much
I speak german and won't move there just because of the salary. For them you will always be a foreigner and person of second class. On the other hand, if you don't mind to stay and work in Spanish community (60% of Spanish immigrants in CH are from Galicia), you'll even fine with gallego. I imagine same applies for Italian community.
hmm numbers came out better than I thought. 100k chf yearly, will probably save you enough for a buying a flat then, but likely impossible for a detached home anywhere in near the city centre, unless youre taking in upwards 250k /year. Thx so much for the detailed break down, you guys are awesome. Congratulations on your success with achieving 10k subs.
Be aware, real estate is not cheap. A flat will cost you around 17 to 20k per m2. Do be ready to pay a million for a small one-bedroom. 250k/year will never afford you a detached home near the city center (unless saving for decades), that is more in the 600k-700k/year range, which is very very hard to do even in Zurich.
Hola Claudia, Hallo Jan.. Loved ur video as usual.. Just some tips/requests, so that ur channel grows more and also we get to know more: Make walking tours around different places in Zurich.. Also talk bout Geneva, and it's contrast with Zurich, show us the different tourist places too
I’m a high school student in Milan, I have a b2 in German and Spanish and a c1 in English I wanted to find some work for the summer in Switzerland just like waiter and stuff like that, but the websites I found on the internet weren’t reliable, do you have any?
Hi! I'm currently a medical student from Portugal and I want to become a doctor in Switzerland, would it be possible for you to ask some doctors about their lifestyle in general? Keep doing your videos! I love watching them! Thank you a lot!
It seems to me that transport is a neccessary expense at least on a local level. To get around you probably have to spend around 80-330 CHF a month (city abo vs GA) going with public transportation.
It would be nice for you to do a 'live stream' video as part of your meet up, so that those of us in far away lands can participate. You could do a Q&A during the live stream and answer people's questions in the comments section. To answer your question on a pleasure cost, I enjoy a subscription to a wine club located in Napa California. For you two, if you enjoy wine, I highly recommend that you do a wine tasting at Schipf Vineyard in Zürich! Their wine tastes amazing!!! The cost for a bottle of wine does not cost very much and you may be able to enjoy a nice tour of the vineyard overlooking Lake Zürich!
Congratulations on your 10k. My partner and I watch your channel because we find it informative, especially since we want to visit and are also considering moving. Thanks for providing super helpful content!

Hey! I love your videos. I would be nice if you could also make a similar video to this one, in which you explain all the same notions, but taking as a reference the average non-quialified full time worker salary, like a waiter+tips, or delivery van driver, etc. 😍 (I think a lot of people who might be looking to move to Switzerland will have to start doing that kind of blue collar jobs before being able to work as their own area of expertice)
10K Congratulations !!! You two have great content, watched your move from Amsterdam and that time you bought the kurtzgesagt poster. Maybe a winter video soon too? We are planning our first trip there next year!

Love your videos and I found them really useful, My husband and I are moving from London to Zurich next year (around the summer) so this is great for us. We are down for the meeting! christmas market would be such a lucky time for us we will be there early December !
Cost of life in Switzerland is really subjective.Even with minimum salary, you can save some money if you are a simple person... or you can end up broke if you spend recklessly.
Idk man… If someone gets 2500-3000 then they likely have to live like students (in shared flats, renting rooms)… You need to pay rent, random bills like SRF, insurance… On low income there really won’t be much left to eat or go to doctor if needed. Actually there are statistics where significant part of swiss citizens have to avoid doctors appointments simply because they can’t afford it…
if you earn 3200 chf for example and are very lucky to rent a studio for like 800 in the city (which is not common, but possibly), you can live a bit better. @@kjkj4725
Congratulations on your 10k Milestone! I've been following you since I'm from Spain and also want to move to Switzerland. Do you recomend find a job before going to live there? I'm an engineer and I've been applying to several companies without any success. Also, what level of German should people have before moving to Zurich?
Hello!! Extremely interesting video (i thank youtube algorithm for once haha), will definitely check out the rest of your videos. May I ask, would you be interested in a professional video editor to handle your next videos? Would love to do that.
I believe you have only taken into account the deductions which you see on your salary receipt.. AHV, Pensionfund, unemployment insurance... and not Bundes/Kantonsteuer which you have to pay in addition when you file your annual tax returns. That is another 20% off your Brutto income, your post-tax income is really around 5K.
When they are earning less than 120k they have to pay Quellensteuer. Then everything is included in their monthly tax payments (same as in Germany for example).
Congratulations for your 10k if you keep like this you can get a huge YT channel I'm pretty sure. 🎉❤ Now one suggest, I think it would be interesting to make a video just like this but on Banking or Pharma sector due to are the most important and well paid sectors of Switzerland.
Hi guys, a huge fan here! I wonder how easy would it be for a Spanish Software developer to find a 100% remote job while living in Switzerland? Is that common? Thanks!
Hi Claudia and Jan. Glad to see the notification. Thank you for releasing new video and sharing about post tax salary/month. It is enlightning and will help me to prepare and estimate spending if I live in Zurich. How about side jobs, part time, remote works or freelance jobs besides our primary full time job? Are they possible to do in Zurich and can double our salary or compensate our monthly expenses? I would like to know your opinion. Thank you in advance! 🌟🧡
Thanks for sharing! Thanks for your comment! By law you can theoretically not work more than 45 hours per week and your main employer has to agree when you do a side hustle 🤔😀
Yes, meeting in Zürich Christmas Market :) I used to have train ticket, so I used to go everywhere in Zürich. Now i have a small car, it would be nice to know where can we park in Zürich since the Opera park costs 5 chf per hour
Hey thanks for your comment! Yes picknik could be cute but we would have to wait for a some time to be able to do that 😅 Since we would need somewhat sunny weather for that 🤔
My health insurance in Geneva is now at 650 sfr per month, single person For anyone thinking about moving to Switzerland do not underestimate this cost Anyway, I was able to save more than 7k per month over 30 years and am now happily retired
The cost is for person right ? Because if both you earning the same on salary can pay all of this and still have let 1000 chf saved up and the outer person can save at least 5000 chf I’m wrong or this correct?
Hi Claudia/Jan You guys always post some very interesting content! I think I've missed seeing the billag as a fix cost, this is 1chf per day, and it's mandatory afaik.. as a variable cost I would have added sports, people here often have like a gym abo, or anything related... I spend most of my money in food and I would love to join the meeting if one day you decide to do it! Saludos Jaime
Me, my wife and our 2 daughters are thinking of migrating in Zurich from Greece from what I saw in your beautiful video a cheap rent for us would be around 3500euro .... am i right...???
Good video, but small correction: Health insurance: 350 is sadly a thing of the past. The politicians in Bern with their endless lobbying by hospitals and big pharma have made that impossible unfortunately. 450-500 a month is now the minimum. Energy costs are also much higher than 100 these days sadly.
Damn Im so disappointed. My goal is to save at least 100k€ per year, but not even Swiss salaries would let me do that... unless I'd apply for a high level master and start working in investment banking (but its a tough road). Im a 24 years old SAP Analyst (only 6 months of experience) and a bachelor degree at economics of banks at University of Milan, I can speak fluent English (and of course C2 Italian), a little bit of Spanish and Im gonna start learning German soon. But I cant see any chance of saving that amount atm, in my situation. I should study and invest a lot more to get there and thats quite frustrating. Any help/advice from anyone in a higher situation?
Save everything you can for the first 5 years while maxing out your salary. Don't buy fancy car, phones, pc, too much rent. Build up a rainy day fund of 3 monthly salaries and put it into fixed Tagesgeld. Learn as many skills as you can until you're 30. Try to do something good to someone else atleast once per month without expecting anything in return. Workout cardio and strength to build up a strong body. Don't date girls with different views on finances than you and especially don't marry such girls. Work extra on weekends but outside of your job. The only currency you have is time and health therefore you can mostly build up with sweat equity. Don't lose money on speculation or gurus, You're easy game in mid twenties for lots of scammers
@@prostmahlzeit thats what Im gonna do unless I'll find a better and faster way to earn more than that. Im not gonna start my own company now or in the next year, but maybe living in Switzerland in a high level company will open new doors with the network. My goal will be financially to be ready to those doors. Meanwhile I will focus on getting more experience and learning German. USA also offers quite good job positions after expensive Mba at Columbia/Harvard or similar universities, that would be a full challenge since I should leave Europe.
Another expat in Switzerland. I need to find a way to spend less on groceries as I'm probably close to 1000 CHF each month. The only viable way would probably be to reduce meat to 2-3 days per week.
Hello! Madison and Oliver here :) we have been following your videos a long time in preparation to move to Zurich in April! If you do a spring meet up in April or anytime later than that we will be there 😊 Please ignore the weird username I think I set that up when I was 12 😅. We are moving from New Zealand btw!
How long would it take for an average couple to save a deposit on a first home. By my calculations a single person on 100k CHF could do it in only 100 months. or 8.2 years. Would a couple usually be able to save a 20% deposit in half the time?
if you want to build a house in zurich, you need an income of at least 500k and that is actually the salary of a prime-minister here. this is from a recent study.
Before health insurance exploded in the last 2 or 3 years, you could save reasonably well, as a single person. Under current circumstances salaries are not moving and are under pressure due to a stagnant and receding economy. The political/economic policies of American satellite countries here in Europe is ruining business everywhere.
you forgot to mention that you have to pay for the doctors visit up to a certain value. you should take the maximum of this value and split it over the 12 months and add this as additional expense. I also heard the tax and insurance for cars is much more expensive than in germany.
Hello yes you are right! I do agree we may should have taken doctors visit into account 🙃👍 we did not have any doctor visit so far in Switzerland 🇨🇭 (lucky)

Looking forward to the meetup!
Thank you for your comment. We too!!
Very good information... 💐❤️
Tq couple..
Love from india 🇮🇳❣️
Cost of life in Switzerland is really subjective.Even with minimum salary, you can save some money if you are a simple person... or you can end up broke if you spend recklessly.
Thanks a lot for your message and thoughts! 😊
Idk man… If someone gets 2500-3000 then they likely have to live like students (in shared flats, renting rooms)…
You need to pay rent, random bills like SRF, insurance… On low income there really won’t be much left to eat or go to doctor if needed.
Actually there are statistics where significant part of swiss citizens have to avoid doctors appointments simply because they can’t afford it…
if you earn 3200 chf for example and are very lucky to rent a studio for like 800 in the city (which is not common, but possibly), you can live a bit better. @@kjkj4725
8:55 most of the money you save by living in St Gallen vs Zurich will be offset by higher tax rates (crazy high, especially in SG city)
I follow you guys before I came to Zurich and I love your videos!! I would totally love a meetup ❤️
Hey there we are so happy to read that! Have a great weekend!
Congrats for 10K subscribers!
Great video as always. I wish we could do a meet up in Amsterdam :)
Thanks so much!! Who knows? Maybe one day 😊
Congratulations on your 10k Milestone! I've been following you since I'm from Spain and also want to move to Switzerland. Do you recomend find a job before going to live there? I'm an engineer and I've been applying to several companies without any success. Also, what level of German should people have before moving to Zurich?
as someone who came to switzerland this month with no University degree right now i make 60 franc an hour in aargau as an DC Techncian
Thanks so much for sharing this valuable insight 🙌🌙
Hello!! Extremely interesting video (i thank youtube algorithm for once haha), will definitely check out the rest of your videos. May I ask, would you be interested in a professional video editor to handle your next videos? Would love to do that.
Hello, what do you mean? You can send us a request on Instagram if you want 😀🤔
thank you so much for the video
Thank you too!
Now one suggest, I think it would be interesting to make a video just like this but on Banking or Pharma sector due to are the most important and well paid sectors of Switzerland.
Thanks a lot for your kind message and support!! We take note of your idea 😊
Hi guys, a huge fan here! I wonder how easy would it be for a Spanish Software developer to find a 100% remote job while living in Switzerland? Is that common? Thanks!
Hello unfortunately that is very uncommon according to my knowledge 🤔
I would like to see the meetup online. Let make you during Christmas days and you can start live video in TH-cam. Congrats for 10000+ :)
Thanks so much! A live video, that is a good idea!
Nice video,
Thanks for sharing your experiences.
I like your channel very much🫶
Keep it up🔥
Glad you enjoy it!❤️⭐️🙌
@claudiaandjan why are there no new videos? we miss you
Hi Claudia and Jan.
@@claudiaandjan Ach so. Noted. Thank youu for the answer and explanation. ☺
Yes, meeting in Zürich Christmas Market :)
I used to have train ticket, so I used to go everywhere in Zürich.
Now i have a small car, it would be nice to know where can we park in Zürich since the Opera park costs 5 chf per hour
Hell yeah! Happy 10000 subs! Meet up - sight me up plz ☺️ a Picknick in spring is a great idea but I’ll go whenever the majority votes for 🫶🏼
Hey thanks for your comment! Yes picknik could be cute but we would have to wait for a some time to be able to do that 😅 Since we would need somewhat sunny weather for that 🤔
could you please make a video in the streets asking the swiss about what do they think about foreigners? (from Spain, from Germany...)
Thanks a lot for your suggestion. We take note😊
My health insurance in Geneva is now at 650 sfr per month, single person
For anyone thinking about moving to Switzerland do not underestimate this cost
Anyway, I was able to save more than 7k per month over 30 years and am now happily retired
You guys are amazing!
Thanks so much. You too!! ⭐️
Hey, a meetup would be great. I would prefer a meetup in Spring!
Thank you for your message. We take note!! ⭐️
The cost is for person right ? Because if both you earning the same on salary can pay all of this and still have let 1000 chf saved up and the outer person can save at least 5000 chf I’m wrong or this correct?
Hi Claudia/Jan
You guys always post some very interesting content!
Thanks for the tips! ⭐️👍
Me, my wife and our 2 daughters are thinking of migrating in Zurich from Greece
from what I saw in your beautiful video a cheap rent for us would be around 3500euro ....
am i right...???
Good video, but small correction: Health insurance: 350 is sadly a thing of the past. The politicians in Bern with their endless lobbying by hospitals and big pharma have made that impossible unfortunately. 450-500 a month is now the minimum. Energy costs are also much higher than 100 these days sadly.
Hello thanks for your comment 🙂 Very interesting
Bonus if you find a way to get the highest education in the cheapest possible way as this will give you better salary for decades
@@fabioesploratore1847 I wouldn't recommend USA since you're going to work long hours and will have no time to explore any side businesses or projects
About a different topic, what is your hair color Claudia? I have brown hair too but it is hard to describe this shade to the hairdresser.
Please talk about van rentals in Switzerland for tourists who dont want to stay in hotels
Another expat in Switzerland. I need to find a way to spend less on groceries as I'm probably close to 1000 CHF each month. The only viable way would probably be to reduce meat to 2-3 days per week.
Yes reducing your meat consumption could definitely help 🤔
Awesome video ❤❤❤
Thanks so much!!!
Health insurance 350? Please tell me where.
thanks for your work
You are a very cute coupple! And your channel content are very good quality, thanks guys!
Thanks so much for your kind comment and support. We appreciate it a lot!!
if got married + have kids (more than one?), then the calculation is too optimistics :)
Could you please share some costs? Are children school expansive in Switzerland, for example?
kita is pretty expensive, ~ 3k per month if send kids to kita everyday.
No pension contribution?
Hello! Madison and Oliver here :) we have been following your videos a long time in preparation to move to Zurich in April! If you do a spring meet up in April or anytime later than that we will be there 😊
Please ignore the weird username I think I set that up when I was 12 😅.
We are moving from New Zealand btw!
Hey there thanks so much for your wonderful comment! We are very happy to read you 💯❤️ Best of luck and see you soon maybe 😃
Why did you remove some videos?
Would you consider coming to other cities in Switzerland, for example, Bern or Geneva?
Hello thanks for your comment yea we consider it. Why are you asking ?
@@claudiaandjan just wondering, because I live in Geneva.
So do people earning 100,000 p.a. even buy properties? Doesn't sound like it@@pongmaster123
Love from India ❤ brother
Love back!
Can you please make a video on salary in medical profession like for an oral and maxillofacial surgeon
Before health insurance exploded in the last 2 or 3 years, you could save reasonably well, as a single person. Under current circumstances salaries are not moving and are under pressure due to a stagnant and receding economy. The political/economic policies of American satellite countries here in Europe is ruining business everywhere.
Pls show Christmas markets in switzerland
Hello thanks for your comment, we will try to take it into account ⭐️
Which is scope of Lawyer in Switzerland because Now a days i am studying a law from Lithuania
Könnt ihr mal ein Video drüber machen wieviel ein Gymnasiallehrer in Zürich verdient? Vill. spricht ihr auch mit einem Lehrer :)
Hello that’s a great idea! We unfortunately so no know any teacher so far 🙃 maybe in the future 🏄♂️
Are these costs per 2 people?
I'm interested in the meetup! I like the xmas market idea.
Thank you very much for your kind comment, Benjamin. Let’s do it!! ⭐️
Hey! my bf and I would love to be part of the meetup, Xmas market sounds great 🎉😊!
Yeah, I'm up for this!
I really enjoy your videos !accurate, reliable and very well elaborated , besides you are a very cute couple ! 🙏🏻 Thanks
Thank you! 😃
How much is it a hair implant in Zurich ? I am sure Jan already checked.
Haha thanks for the comment, we don’t know 😀
Can u answer me something if its viable to live in Switzerland and work just speaking english, or u NEED to know the language ?
You do not NEED to, but is much easier if you do 👍
Since there are less people you compete with if you do speak the language and more people to complete with if you do not
@@claudiaandjan thank u!!!
After seeing Claudia’s reaction to the budget I am ready for the ClaudiaXJan Onlyjans announcement 📣 🎊 🎉
Is there any chance for MERN stack or React developer from india
How to find an apartment in Switzerland?
Watching this as I’m eating pasta in Geneva… It hurts
Haha thanks for your comment 💯🎉
Help me move to Switzerland I need to get out of America so toxic here 😢
Lets do a meetup!
Yay!! 🧡
you forgot to mention that you have to pay for the doctors visit up to a certain value. you should take the maximum of this value and split it over the 12 months and add this as additional expense. I also heard the tax and insurance for cars is much more expensive than in germany.
Hello yes you are right! I do agree we may should have taken doctors visit into account 🙃👍 we did not have any doctor visit so far in Switzerland 🇨🇭 (lucky)
