Hello Claudia and Jan, I just want to say, that I really like your videos and I just wanted to thank you. I think you are helping me and also others here, who are watching your videos a lot! You are giving us very cool insights. You really ask great questions!
Thank you guys for your videos 😁. It would be nice also asking people about the work life balance in Zurich or in Switzerland in general, is that possibile?
when I worked I used to earn a netto salary of 4000 francs a month and saved around 3000 monthly. That was only possible because I still lived with my parents, so considering the life circumstances it can be possible. If I had to pay rent and had to feed a family it definitely wouldn't have been possible at all
Considering how much childcare, dentists, or the privilege to own the roof above one's head, it's easy to realize 2kpm means actually almost nothing here.
Would love some content on how switzerland sees home ownership and how much you need to earn to buy a house in zurich! I did some quick research (dont take my word for it) but houses in Zurich go for arround 700k - 1.5 million. Assuming you need 20-30% for the downpayment, that means you need to have 275k in your bank account (using 1.1mill as an example). So if you're able to save 2k per month, thats 24k per year, meaning you have to save for 11.5 years to buy a house there. Also, lets not forget inflation, because if i start saving for a "1 million house" today, that will grow 2.5% average per year
I thought how to meet you in Zürich, simply walking around the city, but last Sunday met you in italian-speaking part of Switzerland. Have a good time, guys! Thank you!
That's quite worrying after 10 years experience can only manage to save 500 chf per month. I'm planning on moving to Zurich in 2 years and work in that industry! Hopefully I will be able to save 30/40% of my salary there like I do currently in Ireland. great video as always guys 😃

it means their parents have property. It's the same everywhere else in the world. Only people who have to focus on saving are those who are first generation middle class in their bloodline. 2nd generation onwards have a healthy bank account. You work for passion/interest & spending money.
funny how everyone who's saving is just saving for a trip or some short term goal...None of them mention anything about investing, which is where all your saved money should actually go if you don't want it to lose value and want to grow your net worth
@@letsliveallday4259 well that doesn’t really make a whole lot of sense.. Investing *is* saving. Putting your money on some savings account is the most stupid thing you could ever do, the APY is what, like max 3-5% if you get an incredible deal. Inflation is always going to beat you if you put your money there.
The best comment I've seen so far, I thought exactly the same actually. Me personally I put all my available money which I earn here in Switzerland into several investments.
With such insanely high numbers, an interesting question would have been what do they do with those savings. However, unlike other videos of this kind, I have trouble believing that all those young people picked randomly on the street have salaries that in any other western country only a highly specialized professional with 20 years of experience would have.
I was just thinking about that!!! Hahahaa we are living in Amsterdam and the daycare is sooo insanely expensive that all the saving nearly goes into that 🤣 was just so looking forward to my son starting public school in a year and instead am due with the daughter few days from now haha

Do you think that it is good chance to start work there. I am one person age is 38. Can I face to face racism or some difficulty by working in Swiss ? Thank you.
Hey there normally they expect some experience 😃 Also often German is required, but for many tech jobs it is not required. Remember you are competing for job positions against a lot of people so you need to have some special skill to make yourself different, especially when you are not from EU. Best of luck ☀️🎈

Its funny that compulsive buying became so normalized that people cannot conceive of any other way of living. I always saved 60%+ of my salary without trying, I only buy what I really need and most things are not worthy to occupy a space in my life. Some people are just simple and they like a simple life. I really struggle to imagine where people spend all their money, never understood where it goes
@@andreasdelaware Its not that. They rent. I own my apartment and i dont pay anything for it except the tax so i can save 60+ as well. But i rented almost all my life and had amazing jobs. No... if you rent and want to have somewhat normal life saving 40% is not a thing.. hell 60% is a pipe dream especially as a Swiss.
I rent as well (DK), I just never upgraded my lifestyle. I am an exception but 40% is perfectly feasible in a developed country@@lorenzovonmatterhorn7402
It really depends most people save up for a deposit so they can take out a mortgage and get on the property ladder. Other reasons could be for starting a family, funding retirement, going on vacations, having a rainy day fund etc
@@علي-ش7ث8ب they could save for a deposit which is usually 20% of property value (from what my Swiss friends have told me) for example if you wanted to buy an 800,000 CHF apartment then be ready to have 160,000 saved up which over 5/10 years is definitely doable.
Asking how much do you save and then how much percentage is that is basically you ask to expose their salary. And only the Italian guy who works in IT understood that 😂

Thanks a lot for your comment and insights into your personal opinion 😃✨
One pattern, which i noticed, the people originally from Switzerland, zurich are not tend to save rather believe in spending as much as they earn.
Thanks for sharing your insights! Why do you think is that?
it means their parents have property. It's the same everywhere else in the world. Only people who have to focus on saving are those who are first generation middle class in their bloodline.
2nd generation onwards have a healthy bank account. You work for passion/interest & spending money.
funny how everyone who's saving is just saving for a trip or some short term goal...None of them mention anything about investing, which is where all your saved money should actually go if you don't want it to lose value and want to grow your net worth
maybe they consider the investments as an 'expense' and not as savings
@@letsliveallday4259 well that doesn’t really make a whole lot of sense.. Investing *is* saving. Putting your money on some savings account is the most stupid thing you could ever do, the APY is what, like max 3-5% if you get an incredible deal. Inflation is always going to beat you if you put your money there.
Hi Mario. Thanks a lot for your comment! 😊
@@claudiaandjan thank you guys for the great content! Really helps to get to know Zurich since I’ll be moving there within a year or so!
This is Switzerland though, the median salary in Zurich is around $100K USD and average about $115K USD.
Hey guys, can you do a video on students want to come to zurich to study and their job experience:)
Hey there, can you elaborate a bit more. I do not quite understand 🙂
@@claudiaandjan is switzerland good for international students? and what to expect, that would be great
“Very interesting”, Jan 😉
You should do the same video but with people that have kids. I guess the answers will be very different 😅
I was just thinking about that!!! Hahahaa we are living in Amsterdam and the daycare is sooo insanely expensive that all the saving nearly goes into that 🤣 was just so looking forward to my son starting public school in a year and instead am due with the daughter few days from now haha
Thanks a lot for your comment. We take note of your suggestion 😊
What's the average price for a kilogram of potatoes in Zürich?
7 Swiss Francs, but there's slot of village farms selling cheeper than supermarket
Hey! Nice video, may I ask what do you guys do in Switzerland? We're also an international couple and looking for a place to live together. Or if you don't mind sharing the story of how you ended up in Zuric. Thanks a lot !
Well done, most can save
Hey Claudia and Jan. Thanks for your videos. I am in Germany and would like to know about English medium schools in swiss. How much is the average fees for a child in English medium school ?
Please make a video rated to the language barrier for English speakers
Thanks we are taking note 📝 What question would that be then?
@@claudiaandjan issues like , is there any language barrier for the person who only speaks English….and doesn’t understand native languages.. and is it hard to get rented houses for foreigners…
Can you make similar video relating to Geneva please ❤
Hello guys ! I must say i save money 100% of my salary because i stay at my employers place .so everything are free 🙏😘
Hello thanks for your comment! We are glad to hear that 🎈✨👍
Wow they can really save a lot.
Hey there thanks so much for sharing your opinion! Have a lovely week 🎈
Sir make a video on people's earnings in zurich
Hello, thanks for your comment. You are able to identify the earnings of people in Zurich through this video. 🙌 However we can try to make another video specifically on the earnings, as we have done already in the past one time. Have a great weekend!
"anti save" hahaha - First time I've heard that term
We too!! 😂
ask them what they save and what they do with that money! Invest? funds? stock market?
Thanks for your money, maybe a good idea for a future video 👍
Hola claudiaa!!! Necesito hablar contigo porfavoorrr necesito ir a trabajar a suiza y no se como…
In US try to stay around 60% in savings
Hey there thanks for sharing. That is very interesting. Are your referring to Nettie salary also?
I save 3 millions wons per month, so about 2000CHF per month as well. I still feel that I'm not doing enough. We don't know what social security will be in the future.
Hey there thanks a lot for your comment! We are very happy to hear that you are doing fine! Have a great week ☀️
Guys great Video. I am wondering something. Since 1 year i do not work due to on some family issues. My background is I have worked in finance East Europe for 8 years last 2 years i was working in Westen Europe ( Luxemburg) i did master finance plus international business I do speak 5 languages. I do speak German B2 and French A2. Now i am looking for a job in Swiss. If i get a chance to work what i see as range about 70 or 80 K as Accountant role close to Zurich. Do you think that it is good chance to start work there. I am one person age is 38. Can I face to face racism or some difficulty by working in Swiss ? Thank you.
can i get a job as junior dev in Swiss if i speak only english?
Hey there normally they expect some experience 😃 Also often German is required, but for many tech jobs it is not required. Remember you are competing for job positions against a lot of people so you need to have some special skill to make yourself different, especially when you are not from EU. Best of luck ☀️🎈
I can save 3400 CHF per month, my net salary is ~5900 CHF
Thanks a lot for sharing this information 🎈🙌
How is that possible? Do you share the rent? Otherwise only the rent is around 2000 chf
Do you live in a shared appartment?
@@Micha-bp5om my rent is 1450 CHF for a (not so nice) 2 bedroom apartment in a small town with ~30k citizens
@@D0d0Dada yes, in a small city it is possible. I only found jobs in Zürich and there it is almost impossible to find a one bedroom apartment under 2000chf.
Well, people saving that money because first they probably sharing accommodation, eating meat rare and plus have good positions. From you guys a bit no fair that you didnt interview any average person, who work retail, hospitality or something, but only IT or finance guys.
Hey there thanks a lot for your comment! We did not do that on purpose. As you may know we ask around 20 times more people than then people you are seeing in this video. But most of them do not want to be interviewed. So we need to work with the people, that are willing to be interviewed and we are very grateful. Have a great week ☀️🤗
Can someone say what a junior barista salary is?
Hi guys, try to ask families if they save any money when their kids are going to childcare.
Hey there, thanks for your comment. We are taking note. Have a wonderful weekend!
People save 40% of the salary a month and they say they dont try to save... someone here is lying a lot :D
Hello thanks a lot for your comment! 👍🙌🎈
Lying hard af
What to do with the saved money?!
Up to you 😊
It really depends most people save up for a deposit so they can take out a mortgage and get on the property ladder. Other reasons could be for starting a family, funding retirement, going on vacations, having a rainy day fund etc
@@friendlyeuropean
do you think that someone can save up for a house?
@@علي-ش7ث8ب they could save for a deposit which is usually 20% of property value (from what my Swiss friends have told me) for example if you wanted to buy an 800,000 CHF apartment then be ready to have 160,000 saved up which over 5/10 years is definitely doable.
they save more than people make a month
Hello, thanks for your comment
👌👌👌👍👍
Hey there, thanks so much for your comment! Have a wonderful weekend! :-)
I think it's just better to ask either how much they save in franks or how much %. Both of these questions together look a bit too much :D
Hello, we thought it would interesting to ask both in a single video. We are taking note for a future video 👍
What is that guy doing with 7200 buck's per month 😅
Thanks a lot for you comment!
everyone saying more then 1000 are in a single-household without kids.
Hey there, thanks so much so sharing your thoughts!
You pay less taxes if you have debt.. Saving is for children.

How much do you save Claudia & Jan:)
In Spanish, Zurich sounds like Sureek.
😂
House rent is very high half is going on rent

Thanks a lot for your comment 💯🎉
Asking how much do you save and then how much percentage is that is basically you ask to expose their salary.
And only the Italian guy who works in IT understood that 😂
Hey thanks a lot for the answer 🤗👍 Yes you are right it is almost the same. 😃 Have a great day!

because theyre asking for savings after net. But that means they already took out pension & insurance costs.

Good salaries but not a lot of savings…
