  • THE IMPORTANCE OF PORT MATCHING A FLATHEAD FORD
    This is a simple video, not too detailed, that discusses the benefits and importance of port matching in general, but more specifically when building a Ford Flathead.

    The inside of that intake is as nice as the outside. Lovely work!

    FYI: That Thickstun manifold has been dyno proven to be “All Show and No Go” in a Westech Flathead Manifold Shootout.

    Thanks for the video. I was hoping you had more videos involving that Ford flathead build, but I don’t see any other, except the one about sleeves. Maybe in the future you could consider more Ford flathead content???

    So much good info in this vid! I'm still just behind you putting my 47 flattie 59 back to together. These videos have absolutely positively helped me improve the understanding and quality of my build. I'll throw a little polish on the exhaust side. They were just coated in thick layer of carbon on disassembly. Makes sense to move that out. And I'll get those steps out. Thank you again. I know the channel is growing slowly but deeply appreciate the work and effort you have put into it.

    Excellent revision. I'll be doing exactly the same as soon as I have my manifold of choice for my current build. Please remember to do an oil system tutorial, that'd be great.

    I wasn't aware of this, it's great and easy to learn with you; i thought that by default... all ports would match, then... i think in the "cost effective" chain/thing and yeah, it "makes sense" from that perspective back in the day but... idk man, why don't do it right from the begining!?, the engines/vehicles would be more expensive, yes.. but they'll also be more reliable/effective/better for a reason, not because the badge on the hood or the grill. Anyway, has been a clean and clear lesson; have a great week and say hi to Elaine too from the N of Spain. Take care and stay well

    Thanks Daniel! I heard that a lot when I was younger about polishing the intake AND exhaust but it would make more sense to disturb the intake flow to help atomize the fuel.
    Keep teaching us!

    Great tutorial Danny. I remember those articles in Hot Rod magazine about polishing ports. You cleared that up!

    ''Anti-Reversion'' I was just trying to remember that word the other day looking at some D port heads! lol My trick to port matching is I just run the motor really really rich and let the carbon do all the work its also how I ceramic coat my pistons. lol j/k ive always enjoyed looking at dissembled antique engines and it just amazes me how they engineered shit with just a pencil and paper The Pratt 1340 on my Ag-Cat was originally built back in the 1930's. Its still probably the most safest and reliable aircraft engines design ever made.

    Great Video - thanks for the guidance. I have read with the French flathead that the ports are narrower than the US blocks. In order to run a hot cam, do these ports need to be opened up further or is the valve matching sufficient? I have a complete French flathead motor and curious to know what cam you will use. Thanks, Barry.

    Danny, can you do a video talking about intake and throttle body spacers?
    To space or not to space, that is the question 🤣

    I'm fascinated by the whole "staying off the floor" thing. It sure makes a lot of sense for forced induction, but does it hold true for naturally-aspirated applications as well? I can easily visualize forced air hitting the outside of the bends, but when I think about the piston pulling in air, would it not take the inside-most path...?

    Fluid dynamics? Want it, the air, to flow smoothly. Like water in a stream. Don’t want power robbing eddies in the down stream flow?

    Awesome video Danny. it looks like the ports were massaged by the previous owner on the 59AB assembled block I'm putting in my '37 Ford. I'll check the gasket and see if I can port match the '39 intake I'm going to run on it. Thanks for the info! Is that French flatty factory relieved for industrial use or did you do it at the shop?

    I just picked up a 50 8ba and am going to do a rebuild on it next summer, I want to see if it runs first. They're a very cool engine and have a very cool sound to them too. Are they still casting the French blocks or did you just come across an NOS one?

    • @MrDanielSoliz
      @MrDanielSoliz  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Love the Flatheads and the way they sound too. Not to many French flatheads left. NOS. I have one more for another customer.

    Off the floor, Raise the roof, Round ports and longer runners = high Velocity for bottom end while square/oval ports short runners = higher flow and lower verlosity make top end, Or atleast that's what I've come up with on fluid dynamics after destroying a few sets of heads over the years. LOL Although my solid C average in HS may tell you different guess Im not smarter then them engineers at Ford or GM after LOL

      It’s hard sometimes to get people to understand air speed (velocity) fills the cylinder better then a big dead hole.

    If I understood you right they are casting new flathead engines?

    • @MrDanielSoliz
      @MrDanielSoliz  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There’s still some new(French}castings out there but no one that I know of is casting new ones.
