    Using tools such as the damage overlay should be used with the intention of learning, of understanding mechanics, scripting a run or personal improvement. It should NOT be relied on as a permanent crutch or as a way to flex

      One time someone posted the dmg of each player to the in-game chat, it looked its something that you can do automatically and maybe a feature of some dps meter. And of course the one who used and posted it in the chat had the highest dmg. Like dude, you have a Fatty gear with a massive amount of slots to build much more dmg while I don't, what a fucking shocker your dps is gonna be higher. I kinda shrugged it off but I find it pretty weird to go out of your way to flex like that.

      It is also RNG and weapon based too. If you have a monster that flyes around often of course ranged weapons will do more dmg. Targeting from the monster is a factor too.
      Even if I like the damage meter I hope it not ends up like in WoW or other games where people intentionally play risky/bad to squeez out a few more DPS.

    I'm at end game with full fatalis gear and TA valk gear and what not.
    I like the dps mod because I find it interesting watching how much sustained dps I can do to a sos hunt.
    It's made me understand what styles and skills are better than others and how to just play better since bigger numbers mean you did something right.
    The craziest part is in multiplayer I never would have guessed but a lance build with recovery up 3, guard 5, guard up evade extended, evade 3 and shaver with a few damage skills with what you got left will deal so much more damage than anyone else in pretty much every situation and its also the most fun way to play.
    Before I didn't even like lance that much.

      Is a great sword user I know full well I will have some hunts when I probably have some of the highest DPS another hunts where I have some of the lowest. Some monsters are just bad for some weapons and missing a couple of true slashes because of a flinch or a bad stun. But I also know bad hunts happen and they don't judge someone for not doing well.

    • @Yoshihara72
      @Yoshihara72 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +10

      It's crazy how much effect a couple of survivability and quality of life skills can do to improve your times. My very first skills I throw unto my Switchaxe build is always Evade Window, Evade Extender, Power Prolonger and Focus. I would never run a build with not maxing out most of these 4 skills. Depending on the state of progress (e.g. pre master rank), I barely have anything left for damage/offensive abilities.
      Yet, whenever I check out the DPS meter, 90% of the time I am way ahead of that Longsword user going full DPS meta set. And I am MUCH LESS likely to cart as well!
      People seem to forget that, these DPS meta builds are only useful for as long as you can actually keep up your attacks. If you fail to dodge/block/evade an attack or even cart, your DPS will plummet into hell. Being able to consistently keep up your attacks is much more important than having high burst of damage regularly being interrupted by healing and carting.
      Also, it's more fun to come up with your own builds.

    • @zrevi5918
      @zrevi5918 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I find evading in lance very awkward. Those short hops and long backhops arent really for me. So having those skills is pretty much an overskill?/overkill for me when guarding is already efficient enough as your defensive skill. Then it just comes down to monster knowledge on what guard to use and when to not guard in different situations.

    • @iiMEiii
      @iiMEiii 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@zrevi5918 Its more then that evade extender is actually a more important skill for dps then it is for evading.
      The long back hops can quickly get you in range again after a attack and the long side steps let you reposition into a good position so you can hit a weak spot.
      I just guard most attacks because chip damage means almost nothing when health augments are a thing.

    surprised to see no one mentioned the classic combo, cart into quit. There's nothing else that pisses me off quite like when people do that. Oh, and people that ruin mounts with wallbangs, as a IG main, you work hard to get a mount, you know you can get the knockdown, and then some genius clutches to the head and ruins it. Other than that, not much to say, stop attacking if someone slept the monster and is spamming stickers indicating it. Only ran into a cheater once, on a Fatalis quest, he got to phase 3 in less than 2 minutes, but then I carted right as phase 3 began and failed the quest

      @@MintTastic50/50, you can just wallbang after the mount (if the monster didn't became enrage), but, in a multiplayer hunt i think is also good to consider wich one does more damage and creates a better opening, for example fatalis just takes damage and gets enraged, no opening, while if you mount him he leaves a GIGANTIC opening.

    • @TerraRuns
      @TerraRuns 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      95% of the time is it more efficient to simply Jump off, especially with in multiplayer since in most scenarios is no one capable of attacking. The worst thing is that 95% players don’t know how to dunk them instantly. Making everyone following the monster bc of the mount costs more than it helps. There are only certain fights where a mount can be useful like safi or kulve but most of the time is it easier to dunk monsters, para or ko and simply do damage following the cycle of flinches and staggers. Most players don’t wanna mount anyway, they just try to abuse the ledge to deal good damage and accidentally mount monsters.

    • @gollygosh
      @gollygosh 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Isn't it better to wallbang first then to mount? Because after you get the knockdown for the mount the monster gets enraged and you can't wallbang, but you can still mount if it is enraged. idk it's been awhile since I last played, but that's how I remember it was

  • @The_Argent_Dragon
    @The_Argent_Dragon 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +49

    I think these are all good suggestions. I think the simplest way to put it is to have a little empathy when you're playing with others. It's the same reason why, if you find yourself hitting another player a lot, it's wise to simply reposition and understand their inclinations to attempt to avoid it. In regards to upswings, they have their uses, but that comes with being a more experienced player. I've had people thank me for upswinging them out of pins, out of overcommitting to an attack, or being stuck in an animation afterwards that they couldnt roll cancel, to get them out of harms way. Those are the only circumstances (along with roars, paralysis or stun) where those attacks should really be used in close proximity to other hunters. If you see a homie paralyzed, absolutely DO upyeet them. They'll thank you for it 9 times out of 10.
    In a similar vein, if someone politely asks you to watch your upswings or positioning, don't be a jerk. I'll never forget the time I was playing HH and asked a hammer nicely to be careful with his upswings (bear in mind, I would be positioned on the polar opposite side knowing their approach pattern) and they proceeded to blame me for not running flinch free (Which doesn't stop up-launches) and proceeded to tell me it was a skill issue. I won't shame them for their damage, but they definitely weren't the top for it. In general, theres no justification to be rude or defensive if someone is being nice. Be considerate of others, Monster Hunter is PVE not PVP.
    If you're trying for a mount or something and dont want others to accidentally interrupt, dont expect them to be psychic either. Absolutely DO ask to hold stickies or wait for a mount or sleep, or whatever you're going for. Most of the time when I communicate these things, people are receptive and then no one has to get tilted.

      I've definitely had more toxic or bad experiences since World, likely newcomers who don't know etiquette of working as a team, doesn't realize initially they're being a nuisance/jerk- then become entitled and toxic not realizing they were the problem in the first start.

    Something else is wake up priority. Not every weapon can wake up a monster with an attack as effectively and while it’s tempting to just clutch claw and wall bang immediately you should consider other weapons in the party and the damage on wake up they may be able to deal (plus you can just clutch on after they hit to get the dam effect anyways but with free damage)
    In my mind priority goes
    Great sword -> Chargeblade -> Hammer -> Bow -> pretty much every other weapon with an * for the gunlance if the player is knowledgeable on the bug
    Maybe a small gripe but if ever I play online it’s incredibly annoying seeing a longsword or dual blades player do a small tic for the wake up

    MR999 with 1800 hours here.
    if there are two guys in a quest and if the quest started more than 5 minutes ago don't join the quest as 3rd player. the HP scaling of the monster changes to 4 people and the quest takes way longer. if you see 3 people you can join any time.
    if you are fighting monsters that have special kind of mechanics, like alatreon, don't bring blast or raw weapons. check the quest name and bring appropriate gear.
    check and upgrade your gear, don't go to siege hunts or fatalis or alatreon with very low defence, you will get one shotted. always upgrade your armor, research and check your skills.
    if a skill has 3 points, and if you have more than 3 points of that skill it will be shown above 4+ point skills (for example if you have health boost 4 it will be shown HB3 but above critical eye 4), don't do that. check your gear
    if you are fighting fatalis don't spam dragon pods on it. because it interrupts whatever animation it is doing, causing your teammates to miss their combos
    if you are fighting kulve tartoth and when it goes to second area, don't draw aggro on a remote place, stay under the bolder so you can drop it and dish out some good damage
    if your teammates are waiting under that bolder and signalling you, you go there
    pay attention to your positioning. if there is a blunt weapon player in the team he/she should attack the head. don't go there with your pizza cutter charge blade and upswing people
    you can avoid this by doing a slinger burst after circle input, or you can push left stick forward then hit triangle, it will do a downswing instead. but it is slower and if you do it too fast it will still do an upswing, so practice.
    try to stay close to your teammates. because if you are far away monster goes back and forth between you and teammates. makes the hunt miserable for everyone
    if there is a bowgun user in the team, pay attention, he might put monster to sleep. when the monster stops making noises and slowly goes down stop attacking
    if you are the bowgun user give a heads up before using the sleep ammo with the sleeping great jagras sticker (it is free)
    if there is a GS player he gets the dibs on wake-up hit, if not hammer then GL then HBG
    bring some dust of lives to the quest, and occasionally pay attention to your teammates' health bar. sometimes they end up with like 10 hp, but die to fire or poison damage. when this happens to you it is frustrating.
    be considerate, it is a team game. or do solo.

      Hello! MR926 with 2060 ± hours and I wanted to ask regarding the first paragraph you've written. I remember when encountering that similar situation (I'm the third person who joined in a 2 person's quest), they told me that I shouldn't join them mid quest because of the HP scales being increased. I understand that really. But there's a hunt cap that can be set by the quest host, and I know usually for some people they don't usually do that cause it takes a bit of their time. Now for the question.. If you know that you're gonna do a 2 man hunt, why forget about the hunt cap and instead of letting your muscle memory immediately set up the hunt? Is it still my fault for joining them, despite having 2 slots open left? Do I have to find another person so that we can do a 4 man hunt?

      @@mcnickies hello, the answer is simple.
      1. you want a 4 person hunt but you are alone
      2. you shoot SOS flare
      3. but only 1 guy joins, 7 minutes passes and monster's HP is down
      4. 2nd guy sees this quest and joins, boom, monster has more hp now. happens very often. especially with alatreon fights. then you need to fight longer, and the flow of the hunt changes. you or your teammate carts, then you fail.
      or you are in a specific lobby (for example in a Fatalis lobby)
      you post the quest, wait, only 1 guy comes, you depart.
      1 guy comes back from a quest (you are 7 mins in) and decides to join the quest, or, he just want to have free materials, so joins 8-9 mins in. hp scaling goes up immediately, he barely does anything, sometimes chills in the camp. then you somehow win, he comes and carves. even if he does some damage it is unfair in my opinion. initial players: did like 95% of the damage, and spent like 10 mins
      the guy who joined in later: did 5% damage, spent like 2 mins, still gets the carves.
      actually same goes for 1p to 2p. if you want carves you better help!
      if you join after 10 mins of quest start you don't get any rewards, but most of the time hunts last like 7-8 minutes. that's why I wrote 5 mins. oh, if I see someone with 15+ mins in a hunt I am joining that SOS. because I know the pain.

This doesn’t happen to me personally too much anymore but I find it to be respectful to admit your personal defeat and allow others to prevail. Would love to know what people think. Love this game.

    I use HunterPie but i never mention it in the middle of a hunt, the only time i ever got close to bringing up the damage % was while i was doing "We run this town" as my 3rd GunLance hunt (it was more of a trial by fire sorta thing), since i wasn't very confident on my skills with the weapon i shoot the SOS flare at the start of the quest and as i was close to beating Tigrex a Bow player joined, through the rest of the hunt this other player only did a total 15% damage, and i was about to ask if they needed help with upgrading their gear or something, but i was too fatigued to ask them, the hunt lasted 34 minutes and I wasn't used to the controls on mouse and keyboard (my controller got damaged soon before i started playing GunLance and I hadn't fixed it yet)

    I'm a very petty MH player. When I see someone with the custom message for carting that is: "Skill issue" or something on that line I intentionally sabotage his hunt if he's the host.
    I also go into full passive aggressive mode when someone is annoying in chat, for example, intentionally throwing them in the air and putting bombs in front of them when they're doing a combo.

    As someone who plays about half of the weapons, I've had players leave my SOS after seeing that I was using a Gunlance. I understand being frustrated with specific weapon types but I can't imagine ever leaving a lobby simply from a player's weapon choice. This is the weapon where I notice the most player drop-off. It is also surprising since SOS lobbies allow you to see what weapon's everyone is using.
    I've also had players who cart until one faint is left then leave the hunt entirely, leaving me with one remaining cart and no more lobby slots for help. That happened to me quite a bit when doing 25% health Alatreon.

  • @vreeze33
    @vreeze33 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

    I've done many sos quests and luckily I've not had many leeches. Mostly it's inexperienced players being afraid to return after carting, usually when we're on the last cart. I don't mind if we fail a quest and completely agree that it's important for people to learn even if it results in a failed quest. However, some people can get upset if you fail a quest when playing with randoms and it just feels bad when it's your fault so I think it's understandable.
    I often use the hunterpie overlay for a few reasons. If I join an sos for lower ranked players, mostly lr and hr, I downgrade my gear and try to only do my share of the damage so that the newer player(s) can learn from the fight. On more difficult late game fights it lets me know if I need to compensate for other people's lack of damage. It's also helped me improve and feel more comfortable when it comes to my own damage output as I'm not the best hunter and often felt like I wasn't contributing enough. It allows me to realise when I'm not dealing enough damage, but mostly that I often deal more damage than most other players. If you’re looking at damage keep in mind that it isn't everything. If someone focuses on tenderizing, status, traps, wall bangs, etc. This lowers their damage outputs while increasing the overall damage the party can do due to the opportunities they provide. I agree that you should generally avoid talking about damage. If someone is really underperforming just try giving them some tips that will help them improve.
    If you join beginner hunters try not to deal 90% of the damage. It stops them from learning and isn't as satisfying for them if they feel like they just got carried. You can't know exactly without using mods, but if you join a low rank quest with a fatalis weapon you're obviously going to obliterate the monster.
    I've had a few times that someone joined a quest and completely destroyed a monster thanks to mods. Recently someone joined when I was helping a first time shara. They had unlimited wyvernsnipes and completely destroyed shara. I started calling them out mid fight but they were convinced they were a "good guy" despite ruining someone's first experience with shara.
    Nowadays most people have flinch free on their sets so it doesn't matter as much. However, during knock downs you should try to avoid flinching other players. To avoid this different weapons should generally focus on different body parts. KO weapons focus on the head and cutting weapons focus on the tail for example.
    Sleep status. When a monster goes to sleep it's important to not wake it up immediately. Experienced players will often spam a message or sticker indicating a monster is about to go to sleep. If you’re inflicting sleep try to give your team a heads up to avoid frustration. Stop attacking when you notice the monster is doing an unusual animation if someone does this. When a monster falls asleep players will often place down bombs. Once the bombs are placed a player who has a powerful attack should wake up the monster to get the damage boost to the attack or you can detonate the bombs if nobody has one. Then someone should usually try to do a wallbang since you can do that even when the monster is enraged after sleep.
    Mounting. When someone mounts a monster try to avoid interrupting it with status. You can't always avoid it especially with things like sticky but try to keep it in mind.

The lobby was filled with the host and 3 vets/experienced hunters, the newbie guy was actually carted twice but they didn't abandon the quest or just afk at the camp, instead they would stay around the hunt and would watch with ghillie mantle on or hide in a brush and still somewhat interact with the quest and other hunters. This might be low-key leaching but I think in this case the guy pasts the vibe check so it's a pass for me.

    as someone who uses hunterpie, I will say I have considered sharing dps info with party members. But honestly, its not so I can flex.
    When I first played the game, I ended up struggling a bit to learn hunts like anjanath, legiana, kirin, diablos, and nergigante. I tried to look at ways to cheese them, and in some cases I succeeded. I slipped in a piece of guardian gear or something to get by. But that didnt actually make me any better, and didnt prepare me for the difficulty that followed each wall. When it came to nergigante, I was so far out of my league that I started losing motivation to play, thinking that I surely was dozens of hours out from being able to beat it solo. This DROP in motivation and enjoyment is something I don't want my fellow hunters to experience. So when I hop on an SOS of someones first Alatreon fight and they do 1500 damage total over the 25 minute hunt, I feel like they should know that just because the monster died didnt mean they should move on from the fight. You havent "beaten" the monster yet. If you throw yourself at AT Velkhana or Fatalis, your soul will be crushed and your enjoyment will decrease. I don't want to see that happen.
    So for you guys out there, can I just say: every fight is a unique and worthwhile experience. There is no need to rush to the next monster, or cheese one just to progress the story or get better gear. It will ruin your experience in the long run (Defender and Guardian gear count, unless you are replaying and want to progress quickly due to your high skill). I want all of you to stick with this game and appreciate it for the masterpiece that it is.
    Good Luck! And Happy Hunting!!

    Perhaps this is just me, but kicking someone off from a team in a pub lobby just cause they prefer someone else or a different weap in their group is... It's understandable, ofc. But then, lock your quest so nobody can join freely except by invite. Or type in a few words in the chat to let everyone know... 😂

    I’ve just recently finished iceborn and unlocked fatalis for the first time (despite playing the game in the past lol) and didn’t realize hunter pie was a thing until later. Im glad I didn’t have it during my core playthrough because it added to the experience learning when to trap monsters and focus parts without Hunter pie, but now that I’m a late game player, having a health bar helps me get an idea of how long a hunt will take and such. I can see both sides of the argument for multiplayer

    How many leachers there were in certain titles and the sheer number of them at the start of world was partially the fault of us veterans.
    It started with the first big boost with Tri, where we hard carried new players out of excitement and wanted them to be with us at end game pretty quickly. We failed to teach them how to hunt.
    In 3U it hit hard, but for the most part we ignored leachers expecting them to eventually go away. Then there was 4U.... You could not open a lobby with out at least 2 hunters leaching or begging to be carried though an urgent, which they would not participate in themselves. In Generations we were able to reduce leaching a lot due to us just not being nice anymore.
    Then world exploded and out of sheer stupidity, we carried a lot of new players again, starting the entire damn cycle over.

    I'd add one last point; Don't be a DPS whore as in if you're using a slicing weapon you should focus tail first whenever possible instead of just going for the head... I see way too many people going out of their way to move to the head and just DPS the monster instead of going for tail cut (even when they're next to the tail) whenever a monster is toppled and then boast their DPS meter at the end of the hunt like "look at how much I carried you".
    With regards from a hammer player who's tired of getting flinched 24/7 when trying to land a big bang combo

    • @TerraRuns
      @TerraRuns 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No one is gonna cut the tail for you if you don’t say that you want it. Everyone is capable of dealing damage to the tail but many weapons can’t cut them properly and obviously dps matters as well. Most monsters will trip, dunk, flinch and stagger if you hit the head. That’s simply game design and crowd control is important to not let things go out of control. Also, you gotta do most monsters multiple times anyway which also means its likely to get a tail at some point. Dealing optimal damage and doing hunts over and over again will be easily more efficient unless you’re only hunting for a tail and than becomes it a question of why you’re running with other players if you want to guarantee it in the first place

    Especially while joining from an SOS flair for a monster HUNT quest, please ask the host if they want the monster slayed or captured and then actually respect it. Sometimes I want the quest to double as a bounty and it's annoying when I have to go on the same hunt again, or prepare to hunt another monster from the same category that I didn't plan to hunt, because someone kept attacking a dying monster and killed it. Very often it happens even after I said in the chat I want to capture

    Wear flinch free or stfu (especially in kulve where everyone is going for the horns)

    leeching is probably the one thing that I simply will not abide by. It's an auto kick if I'm host, and if I'm not I will point out that player might be leeching in chat and will recommend that the host kicks the offending player. If I join a quest and the host is an apparent leech, that's an auto retire.
    I'm here to WITH people, not FOR them.
    Oh dang, forgot about the mod weapons. I barely run into them anymore. But if I realize that I'm in a hunt with someone using one of those, I will actively quit my game and restart. I don't want my kill numbers being affected by that and I will not take part in a hunt that someone should have just been running solo. You're not doing anyone a favor unless they asked you to do that, because they could have just installed mods themselves and done the same thing. Gameplay affecting mods are for singleplayer.

    In regards to the second point that you brought up, I wanted to add my personal opinion to it. Ofc I know the feeling how bad it feels when you kart 2 or even 3 times in a quest and it is also a little annoying when someone else fails a quest for you, but I never get upset with people. But what makes me upset is when people abandon the quests immediately. I'd rather have you try your best and fail the quest than waiting in a different area for me to finish it for you or leave the quest for the slightest inconvenience.

    As a longsword user, I don't mind the occasional random upswing. God knows how many randoms I've accidentally tripped... Plus, I get a mount from those every now and then :D For multiplayer hunts in general, I usually bring my funny ls support build with free meal 3, speed eating 3 and a friendship charm 5 :D it's still full crit so the damage is decent too, I just don't have to feel bad about taking all the supply chest potions. And for harder hunts or lower leveled randoms, I bring Felyne Safeguard just in case. I try to be a good teammate in as many ways as I possibly can.

    • @NiSE_Rafter
      @NiSE_Rafter 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think regardless of wide-range you should not be taking all the chest potions without permission, that way people can use them when they need it rather than on your whim. If you ask first though then all good.
      (Also flinch free is practically required for multiplayer and if you didn't trip them somebody else probably would have anyways)
