I’m a Norwegian and I enjoy every day there when I visit Singapore. Being able to walk wherever you like, whenever you like, being safe and feeling safe, will you be able to so that many same size cities anywhere else in the world? Also I lived in Singapore for more than ten years and totally enjoyed it. So my feeling is that this video try to paint as negative picture of Singapore as possible. And using robots. For surveillance or saving labor? Did the program maker consider, or was painting a negative picture the main purpose?
You do realize that the pervasive government surveillance means that every single aspect of your life can be monitored, tracked, and stored right? Would you want the government to know what you're buying, watching, reading online? Now imagine if the Singpass system got hacked, now someone other than you/ the government have access to all that data. Would you want someone else to have possession of the most sensitive information about you and access to your bank account? What about if you disagree with the government politically? That could lead to dedicated surveillance on you, and what happens when they deem you to be violating one law or another because of your views?
I'm watching this video now....the movie Demolition Man predicted all this! But that singpass reminds me of the mark of the beast in the book of Revelation.
I was in Singapore this summer for holidays and it was great. I think if you know the rules and you abide to the rules, you should be able to have fun in Singapore. I really felt safe as a woman even in the night and I was not scared of something happening to me so for me, Singapore is a destination that I will definitely visit again, and the people are very friendly and ready to help.
This documentary has a false narrative, Singapore is an absolutely liberal state. There is so much freedom, low taxes, easy to conduct business, affordable living, excellent health facilities. In fact some of us in Australia travelled to Singapore for specialised medical treatment. The state is clean, fresh, modern & the people are amazingly friendly. Singapore is my favourite stopover, when ever we are flying out from OZ and most of us will only peruse Singapore Airlines. ❤
You answered your own question in the first 30 seconds: "One of the few protests to be authorized in this country". Protests must be authorized? Nothing "smart nation" about that. I don't know how anyone can stand to live there
US prison system holds most prisons in the world and they will say like your comment, our juristic system is human and freedom or is it really? In US an average 800 plus people killed per week just by gun violence alone ( yet you are complaining DEATH SENTENCE). In Singapore 99.99% people feel safe at their own home, shopping centres, schools and public places, on contrary large number of people in US are living in constantly fear by gun violence, drug abuse, racial hatred crime, mental illness caused violence. Human rights are not preserved in US many cities and states because of high crime rate and under funded policing.
When I went to Singapore, me and my friend had to fill paperwork so much detail, me and my friend, what going on , it like we are criminals, taking so long to filling complete, we are spending money a lot , and expensive, and too small never go back there. It not paradise. The worst country to spend money.
Singapore is great. An example for other countries. Law and order for everyone means more freedom and security than in many Western countries. This documentary further confirmed my faith into Singapore, despite its strongly negative undertone. Agree to disagree...
this documentary is 3-4 years out of date. A lot of those tracking measures shown were temporarily used during Covid and they are no longer being used today.
You can choose either less security protection but a lot of crimes ( like in America and drug trafficking ) or strictly security measures but less crimes like right now. Your choice. I live in California, I never go to any events which has a lot of people because there are a lot of mass shooting and crimes. It is so dangerous to walk around at night in California. So Singapore should keep strict rules like that, don’t change. Don’t copy from America, cos it’s so bad for people and for living
I used to think that the law and order there is too much….now, at 65, seeing the consequences of 100 liberty…. I tend to side the necessary law…in the name of peace for all.
At the current moment, Singapore doesn't exist... what we have is actually "paptopia" a dystopian "dream" for a few at the expense of the many. Irony is that most of them who complain also vote for the paps to continue paptopia. They know they should change their voting habits but fear, greed and stupidity holds them in thrall.
Most of the Singaporeans earn and live for just their food and shelter and can't even dare to think beyond these two since and if they manage to save whatever little they splurge on branded goods
Thanks for the documentary Java Discover! Every country has its ups and downs, and Singapore is no different. The achievements they’ve made are impressive, and I have respect for that. My own company is based in Singapore, and as a Dutchie who lived there for years, it holds a special place in my heart. That said, I chose a more down-to-earth lifestyle and moved to Batam, Indonesia, just a short ferry trip away. I feel lucky every day to have the privilege of living in places like Singapore, Indonesia. Keep it up, Singapore!

If you want maximum safety, it's said that you have to give up freedom and privacy to the state. In the US, you have more freedom but you give up safety. Then again, there are even safer countries than Sinapore with a lot of freedom like Japan and Nordic countries. OK, you don't have to give up freedom and privacy for safety.
@@alexs6770 I know, I have many Singaporean friends. Personally, I have lived in 5 different countries so far, and nobody asked me to do so. This is an interesting documentary. If you would call that you've got a guy who spent 20 plus years in jail as the tour operator. I'll leave that where that is. And then on the other side they're talking about surveillance. Meanwhile in America they have people being lit on fire, literally lit on fire and killed in the subway stations. Am I missing something?😅
People are never happy... its not a perfect city, but its way better than most places in the world. But yeah, people will always find a way to complaint. There are rules, yes, but that allows for a peaceful coexistence among many different religions, and races. People have comfortable life's, criminality is not accepted.... but people complaint. And yes, you are under surveillance, but same happens in the UK, in the US, in China, In russia, etc etc... the only people that should be afraid of CCTV are the ones thinking about breaking rules and commit crimes. People need rules, because we are still in a state of evolution that make us selfish, greedy and with few empathy towards others that are different.
True! Law is there to protect your safety, and only afraid when you are violating it. Singapore has the best education system means they are working on being the best! Not, chaotic, nil crime rate, most of all safe.

A little extreme in my opinion. The prison system is inhumane. Only an uncivilised country would support the death penalty.
Maybe we should make a list of them.
