It depends on which angle you look at it. S. Korea's defense budget is 10%, compared to Europe's 1%. We have North Korea, so we have no choice. Also, with a declining population, there are fewer people to pay taxes, so they can't spend as heavily on welfare. On the other hand, healthcare and public education are excellent. For example, Dental cleaning is $10 including x ray and examination. Doctors and pharmacists visit the home of the elderly and treat them regularly.

in most of the countries if you work 60-70 hours/week , u can have a good life . I doubt all the Koreans who work those hours have a better life than the rest of the world. And that commitment to a company is pure stupidity ,companies don't care about them.

what a torture to the students! slavery in the name of discipline, no sigh of relief, no individualism, so much stress and even parents send their kids into hell like that.

If u can’t suggest or question the boss’s questionable decisions above u then how will they ever improve? If they have no fear of potentially losing their job to someone who has the potential to do it better than u. If there is no competition then what drives them to improve their work or give it 100% effort every time?

They spend all those hours at work, but hardly get any work done. So many foreigners have complained about not only South Korean, but Japanese companies that there’s no productivity. It’s just the appearance of acting like your work done😅
Also, it’s unfortunate when the elderly can’t get help.
