It’s crazy, but by your rules and logic, I think Superman 64 genuinely deserves a spot on the mountain. Because its influence is still being felt in the superhero game community today. For what not to do. Superman 64 is such an infamous game that you can genuinely still look to it today to learn how not to make a game. The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction may not have had any influence beyond the Prototype series or the Venom sections of Ultimate Spider-man, but I absolutely adore it. The satisfyingly weighty-yet-smooth movement and the sheer variety of zany combat interactions makes for something that's truly unique within the open-world Super Hero genre.
It was officially stated that HUD influenced the development of DC Universe Online, so it's not just Venom in USM. Back in the day DCUO was a fantastic game, and it's the best surviving superhero MMO game (out of like... two that are still active? Yep, but still). Maybe there are other games that have features borrowed from Hulk: Ultimate Destruction, but I just had to mention DCUO.
1. Batman: Arkham City: Asylum was a revolutionary game and City just did everything it did better 2. Spider-Man PS4: Great implementation of free-flow combat for Spider-Man, great story and web slinging 3. Marvel Ultimate Alliance: Insanely fun game with a solid story and great settings, still remembered fondly almost 20 years later 4. Injustice: Great adaptation of a great comic arc, revived superhero fighting games
Spider-Man 2 may have “set the ground” aka influence but it’s not the best of its kind, therefore I think that insomniac should be up there, you even said it, insomniac has influence too, it’s not all about influence you need to include all the other aspects too, one of the insomniac games deserves to be up there
The fact that Infamous or Infamous 2 isn't on this list is fucking criminal. It's legitimately one of the best superhero games out there and the powerset is so unbelievably creative and unique
I also feel like Spider-man 2 2004 on ps2 helped build the template for more realistic webswinging, this is because all the spider-man games before it had webswinging that attaches to the air but after this game more games did the realistic webswinging. plus we wouldnt have insomniac webswinging if Spider-man 2 2004 didn't attempt more realistic webswinging first
City clears all the Arkham games, Spider-Man 2018 because it revolutionized Spider-Man, MUA for being one of the reasons that started it all and being a groundbreaking game on launch. Last game is MVC2 the greatest fighting game of all time that went on to inspire everyone like fighterz this was before watching the video btw

Arkham City Spider-Man 2 Lego Star Wars TCS Spongebob: Battle for Bikini Bottom Honorable Mention: TMNT Shredder's Revenge, Sonic Adventure, Mario Oddyssey
My jawdropped from joy at 9:56 … earlier when you mentioned you were only picking one said heroes games I instantly thought of the old Tobey Maguire games and said I really hope he doesn’t forget those
honestly, i get why you chose those, but i have a different list in mind: Batman:Arkham City-the game that perfected the sandbox formula: the combat was fluid and allowed to just use your skills as a fighter like a more fluid Assassins Creed or use your gadgets, instead of just dodging the enemy and spamming combos. the movement around the city was an improved version of the asylum formula and allowed you to glide with ease, and the secondary missions werent just "go to this place, beat up these guys, mission done". Marvel Ultimate Alliance- Great game from my childhood. also, great multiplayer game: make your own team, fight against enemies, unlock new characters... made you and your friends feel like a great group of superheroes. didnt know how to unlock the Hulk though. InFamous 2- i liked the first one and i liked the second one: you could play it a lot of times, even unlock secret missions if you had data from the first game. the movement was great, the combat was improved, the powers were amazing... City of Heroes- I wanted to put DC Universe Online in this position but i couldnt disrespect the OG Superhero MMORPG. a lot of powers and customization to choose from, being able to choose between hero or villain. if you had a superhero OC fantasy, you could probably play it in this game. another question for the reader of this comment: if you had to make a team with your 4 favorite superheroes ¿which ones would be the members?
Great list, i also have Hulk Ultimate Destruction, The Punisher, X-Men Legends & Infamous as some personal faves for superhero games that may have been somewhat influential.
9:36 YES I WAS SO GLAD FOR THAT SWITCHUP. Like i know the modern games are amazing but i was rooting so hard for Spider-man 2. It was the one i remember growing up and if you're gonna pick a founding father it completely revolutionised the web-swinging.
I am playing the arkham collection for the first time, I finished Arkham Asylum a few days ago and i can defintely appreciate how good it must have been for the time.
There should have been an InFAMOUS game on this list. You went to literal with the name "super hero". InFAMOUS is one of the biggest superhero games and you get a choice to be a hero or villain. Also it was a little influential with games like prototype going on to try and replicate it. I can even see some of its DNA in Spiderman PS4 and other games.
Marvel Ultimate Alliance was also so great because of the accuracy of characters and the depth of the lore. Each level we traveled to gave us a whole world of lore to explore. Talking to characters from said places, assembling your own unique teams, customization on character outfits. This game truly had it all and was indeed the gateway for a lot of our passion for superheroes. Would love a new version with Secret Wars as the main point.

I disagree with arkham city. I get it but i disagree. Arkham asylum invented freeflow and predator. Sure there were games that HAD combat and HAD stealth but asylum took the aspects of those games and said "we can make it better" city to me is a good sequel. It didn't really do anything to out of the ordinary other than adding an open world and a few new toys to play around with. Don't get this twisted, asylum is not my favorite arkham game, i just thought it was more influential. There are tons of games that use arkham as what to do in there combat and asylum was the original.
Most valid list I've ever seen but if there was a fifth spot think that the X-Men arcade game is one of the most important since its one of the oldest actually predating the 90s cartoon and not only gets compared to other super hero games but also to other beat-em-ups in general
Let's be honest, all of the Arkham Games could be under the Batman spotlight, when people say their favorite i don't have one because i believe they are all perfect
Underrated video and also fun fact, the Spider-Man 2 game in 2004 was made by Treyarch, the studio that would then go on and work on many Call of Dutys, in particular the Black Ops Saga.
Spiderman 2: 2004 was incredible, and I personally think it holds up today with the gameplay, the story was so ridiculous, but i love it too. without that game we would've not have Insomniac Spiderman
As much as I love Arkham City, its Arkham Asylum. While City is the better game, Asylum laid the ground work for things to come. And set the industry on fire in the process.
for me personally its 1) insomniac spiderman 2) batman arkham knight 3) injustice 2 4) lego marvel superhoes 2 its not about their significance or anything specific but these games together made the best mix for me, insomniac spiderman was a long eventful game where we explored the character and arkham knight had such good gameplay and graphics that have kept me invested, injustice has a unique story i admire and lego games are just pure fun
I can't be the only one that thinks that this list makes no sense. I mean choosing games for the influence they had makes sense, but choosing the second arkham game at the same time makes absolutely no sense. Without arkham Asylum there is no arkham city (that may be more refined). I mean the logick was that it was just a bit better than asylum right? I would argue that the insomniac Spider-Man games are a lot more refined than the Spider-Man 2 game. So according to his own logick he should've either chosen one of the insomniac games (for being more refined) or arkham asylum(for being more influenzial, by somewhat creating arkham city), but this combination makes absolutely no sense to me personally.
Good list, but part of me feels like the X-Men arcade got a bit snubbed. Also no mention of Ultimate Destruction is interesting. Unfortunately people dont talk about it much but its wild what they achieved back then with that one.
Dude, WTF?! I never thoroughly elaborated on my superhero games Mt Rushmore/4 most influential superhero games of all time, but when I started watching your vid, I came up with almost exactly the same list as yours, except I would've put City of Heroes or DCUO on the 4th spot, since superhero MMO is a niche genre of its own and it deserves some reflection in that kind of list. Like, I progressively "predicted" every game you placed in this top (besides MvC2), as I was watching the video, one after another. When you started talking about Batman, I picked B:AC and you did too! Spider-Man? Spider-Man 2 (I didn't even play it, but I just can physically grasp the impact it left xD)! Then I was trying to decide which one would take number 3, between Injustice and M:UA. And it ended up being M:UA, for me as well as for you! There are other games in the same top-down beat'em'up direction, like X:Men, Fantastic Four, Justice League Heroes, maybe there's more, but M:UA is surely the best one. That's wild...
This is good as an objective one, but everyone's personal one is gonna be different. If I had to decide mine, it would probably be (of course limiting to 1 per character or this would just be Batman or Spider-Man): 1. Arkham Origins (Played City and Asylum before this one, but this one hit harder for me) 2. Infamous 2 (This one is an experience no matter which path you choose, though The Hero Route is definitely better than The Infamous Route) 3. Web of Shadows (Still my favorite Spidey game to this day for the combat, web swinging, and funny QTEs) 4. Lego Marvel Superheroes (Have to kinda bend my rule for this one since Spider-Man is still in the game, but it mainly focuses on the Avengers and X-Men)
It’s crazy, but by your rules and logic, I think Superman 64 genuinely deserves a spot on the mountain. Because its influence is still being felt in the superhero game community today.

"Superman game if it had a good one" damn 😂
Ultimate Spider-Man > Spider-Man 2, but fair enough.
I wish they remastered ultimate spider man
As much as I love Arkham City, its Arkham Asylum. While City is the better game, Asylum laid the ground work for things to come. And set the industry on fire in the process.
Crackdown series feels like a big series for super hero mechanics
i wish you threw in an odd ball like the infamous games that are indeed superhero games at least the first 2 even got comics by dc if i remember
Batman Arkham Asylum, Batman Arkham City, Batman Arkham Knight & LEGO Batman. No bias ofcourse 🤓
for me personally its
1) insomniac spiderman
2) batman arkham knight
3) injustice 2
4) lego marvel superhoes 2
its not about their significance or anything specific but these games together made the best mix for me, insomniac spiderman was a long eventful game where we explored the character and arkham knight had such good gameplay and graphics that have kept me invested, injustice has a unique story i admire and lego games are just pure fun
The mountain is gonna look different if we ever get a static shock game (or new one if there's an old one)
This list is perfect
I'd argue Neversoft Spider-Man over Spider-Man 2, it put superheroes on the map for good games.
Spider-Man 2 for the PS5 and Arkham Knight are my favorites
This is good as an objective one, but everyone's personal one is gonna be different. If I had to decide mine, it would probably be (of course limiting to 1 per character or this would just be Batman or Spider-Man):
1. Arkham Origins (Played City and Asylum before this one, but this one hit harder for me)
2. Infamous 2 (This one is an experience no matter which path you choose, though The Hero Route is definitely better than The Infamous Route)
3. Web of Shadows (Still my favorite Spidey game to this day for the combat, web swinging, and funny QTEs)
4. Lego Marvel Superheroes (Have to kinda bend my rule for this one since Spider-Man is still in the game, but it mainly focuses on the Avengers and X-Men)
PROTOTYPE and Infamous deserve a mention in this discussion
