It deserved far better treatment. While it wasn't the highest quality show in many ways, it was fabulous in so many others. This final episode was, at least, a very beautiful one.

It's like me and the show Time Tunnel as a kid . It never ended but was kind of rebooted as Quantum Leap. But then it had a crappy ending. And now a dubious reboot.
The good old days. Reagan was President, the economy was good, families still ate dinner together every night and talked about their day, no cellphones or internet (not for the masses anyways), and tv was still good. I loved growing up in the 80's, and I remember this show from when I was 8 years old.
I’d like to mention that it would be paradoxically ironic if the USA ends up as a dystopian hell like one of the provinces featured in this series. All it takes is a series of catastrophic events that push our society into chaos. After 9/11, 2008-09 Great Recession, and now the 2020 pandemic. We are well in our way. I weep for my daughters future.
That Prime Manager was just like Servalen from Blake's 7 or Ursa from Superman II a short haired brunette baddy. So sad this is the last of this show I really wanted them to get home or at least have a few more episodes. I had a fan boy moment when I found Sam Groom's email address on the internet and told him how much I loved the show.

I recall the handsome Mr. Groom from 70s-80s TV and often wondered what became of him and why he vanished from the scene. I also recall this show, especially the first episode where the family finds themselves living amongst androids. It would've been super had this show continued with more episodes.

Too bad the family didn't get an episode to get back home. I loved this show along with V back in the 80s. It always annoys me when they don't give a show a proper conclusion. They were so close with this episode. They got the directions to Imar. Once entering Imar they could of found the means to return home at the end of the season. Such a waste.
That was the trouble in the 80's, the US networks did not let shows last very long if they didn't bring in the viewers. Often they were still filming when they were axed!
I think that happened because the writers likely knew the series was ending and they wanted to give viewers at least some idea of what could have happened had the series continued.
I'd say you could go on and on with Otherworld if you change the end of episode 8, so Jeanna becomes married to the captain while the power-hungry bitch gets it, so the princess can turn Metro-plex into a parlimentary democracy, science fiction style with all of that 1980's charm.
I had to pause and look at three tall towers (instead of two) of the World Trade Center. That was very interesting and random. Does anyone know if there were any books (possibly novelettes) based on this show? I remember seeing this as a kid but would love to explore more.

Yes, on episode 9 the family reaches Tromp country, a narcissist realm full of adult film stars that directly fornicate with the male members of the family and request quick payment not to imprison them. Hopefully, they are saved by "The Ruler" Danold Tromp that offers them getting acquitted by drilling the female members of the family. After that, they are all put against the highly awaited Stargate and by pronouncing the magic word "You´re fired" the family returns to Earth. End of the series.

Oh wow. Back when I first watched this episode I thought the original Princess Metra had left a message showing them how to get back home. I guess I misunderstood it.
They kind of gloss over a really important point in this episode, which establishes that time likely moves faster on Thel than on Earth. Perhaps 10 times as fast, because the original princess has been gone over 200 years, yet it’s only been 20 some odd years since the Kennedy administration, which is the era in which she lived on earth. Trace contemplates returning to an Earth where he’s an old man but his friends are only a year or two older. That really changes the dynamics of the show, if they’re on Thel for any significant amount of time and are aging while this happens. It may not make a difference for the parents to return an Earth where they are 10 years older than when they left, but think about the kids - particularly the younger son.
Probably would have been explored more in future episodes, if it was picked up. I hypothesize that with only 57 provinces, if this was to have become a full blow serious, by the end of the first or second season they would have made it to Emar then gone through some portal, but arrived on yet another different world, maybe for a few episodes, maybe for a season... sort of like a longer timeline version of a Sliders episode. With each of the worlds time traveling in different speeds and or different directions... they theoretically could arrive back home exactly when they left or exactly when the proper amount of time has passed for them, or even in the future or past.... who knows.
I grudgeingly admit-----I am growing to appreciate this series more and more. Ot is a shame it did not have a full season and more. The story lines are entertataining and the cast is excellent. The taste of the American public is at times abysmal!

I find it hard to believe the remaining episodes weren’t filmed but if not and can’t be released then a filmmaker should pick up where they left off but with a néw family getting stuck in this world and the old family still living there.

This has been categorically refuted by producer/creator Roderick Taylor, as well as by the actors on the show. All confirm that only eight episodes were ever shot.
Too bad the quality isn't better on these, a lot of these old shows back to the 40's and 50's are equal to HD, much better than any TV back then could reproduce. But many others like this series look like they were copied from worn out VHS tapes.

At 28 At 28:25 ...The reason that this series failed because it was Science Fiction...there were (and still are) many people who don't understand TRUE SciFi...It's NOT Star Wars...True Science Fiction makes people talk...about what they have seen...to interpret the message...best example...2001: A Space Odyssey...People today still speculate what the ending is...THAT is true SciFi...unfortunately, there are too many people that don't have the mental capacity to handle it...

I love the 80s video special effects, and new agey music when she opened that box and had her vision. That is one of my favorite scenes.

Get a full frame time base corrector. That should fix a lot of the problems.
