Wanna check out a death metal band that has a very similar sound to Depeche Mode? I got an analysis right here: th-cam.com/video/7_dDl6m4c0o/w-d-xo.html

    I recommend «Never let me down again» (1987, euphoric), «World in my eyes» (1990, cool), «I feel you» (1993, rocky), «Stripped» (1986, experimental) and «People are People» (1984, industrial). Always great production value.

I love Depeche mode, but this track is not even close to being near my top song for them. That being said, I’ve always loved the ending of this studio version of the song. That’s when the true Depeche Mode…ness kicks in. I’m always disappointed when other reviewers just review the video version where this ending is absent. Recommend you review Halo from this album and Stranglelove from music for the masses. The atmosphere they generate in the studio/ album version on Stranglelove is fanatic.

If you like the song "In Your Room" you may like the song "Walking In My Shoes" or "I Feel You" they are both off the same album Songs Of Faith And Devotion. Another song is "Barrel Of A Gun" which is another hard hitting song it is a little rocky. Well a little rocky for DM since they are mostly a synth band

I've never been crazy about this track. However, I absolutely admit the ending is significantly cooler than I'd remembered.

Yeah, the synth "jam" at the end was always my favorite part. They cut it out of the single version. They shouldn't have.

Everybody is different, and likes different things. There's nothing wrong with not liking this song, even though I love it. I appreciate your ability to give your personal opinion, even if it could possibky alienate viewers. For merely educational purposes, and from someone who witnessed this songs debut, it directly contributed to the ZZ Top album Eliminator, and NIN entire career. On a side note, the band members were not hostile to, or mocking of faith, only that fact that faith was for sale.

It's also notable how in this track traditional rhythm elements (hi-hats, ride / crash cymbals or their electronic counterparts) are replaced by strange filtered tremolo sequence and various bleeps and delays, making the track sound both slow and fast at the same time and leaving the kicks and tom-toms more naked and pronounced. Absolutely iconic rhythm track, instantly recognizable from hearing one second of it.

9:31 - Fun fact, this "guitar" is actually a very distorted scream from Dave recorded on a synthesizer😁

Personal Jesus was a major different sound for the band and brought to ears to the band. Guitar and live drums. Violator is still there best selling album. Peak DM. Still sounds fresh now

You need to listen to “I Feel You” from Songs of Faith and devotion.
It does something better than I’ve ever heard any other production do, the 1st minute and a half of the song sounds very sonically full, but after the first Chorus the song opens up and somehow gets even fuller and bigger, it’s amazing!

How is it overrated if it is the song that changed their whole perspective into making music and incorporating elements that never did before?
You might not like it, but that song is EXTREMELY important for them as a career progression and sonic soundscapes progression.

Late reaction, sorry.) That stomping beats, especially prominent in the final section, were constructed from literally stomping on the flight cases where you put instruments while on tour.

    Songs of Faith And Devotion

@@tamasdmmolnar9450 I guess you like Wilder, me too. But this is my opinion about Sound Production, not music taste or composition.
Meanwhile SOFAD is the apex of DM, MM is their last work, with more people working in mix, sound design, vocal layers, production.

I'm a DM fan. "Personal Jesus" is ok but it's probably one of my least favorite songs on the album. Sometimes I'm in the mood to hear it, sometimes not. But I do love the synth "jam" at the end which is cut out of the single version. If you want a tune more like "In Your Room", a song that you thought was great, try "Clean", the last song on Violator (same album as "Personal Jesus"). It's atmospheric, has dark synth orchestration, and a cool rhythm with partially live drums (just tribal toms).

I despise the song Personal Jesus. The beat is incredibly repetitive and annoying. The funny thing is, I love the rest of Violator. Just not that song.
