The Violator album was their pop and commercial master piece. Songs of faith and devotion is deeper and is their true musical master piece in my opinion.
First, let me thank you for following your viewers suggestions & analysing / reacting to this masterpiece. Former DM band member A. Wilder, combined w/ producer Flood were a unstoppable duo.
To the last sound you are wondering about how its done...It also could be a Trautonium! BTW...If you listen further to this album you will also end up at "Mercy in you" "Rush" and last but not least "Higher Love" which are also brilliant from a production kind of view.
Yes indeed, that's a very strong Depeche Mode song, with so much depth and atmosphere - kind of strange how I didn't appreciate it way back (along with, I FEEL YOU), but guess that my music tastes were still developing. NEVER LET ME DOWN AGAIN, would also be a great song by the band, to analyse.
Yes yes yes ;) Especially when there are in fact nearly no instrument… yes and no in the same time because almost all sounds (maybe all) are in fact samples. They sampled drums sound as Alan said in an interview telling he wanted in the same time manipulate the sound as a drum machine but with an organic sound. So he played drum, recorded, sampled and so on with effect, sequencer… They done the same with strings. All strings sound are samples taken from orchestra records. They could have used real strings players like with « one caress » but no ! They could have used synthesizers to create strings sounds but no ! Just samples And that’s magical… Alan wilder and Flood made a masterpiece. It would be interesting to see and hear the studio session process, how they made it. Are they the only band to work like that ? I don’t think there is another band to used samples as they did. The level of sound art, samples manipulation is outstanding !!!! And as said in the video, another kind of DNA sound of DM is the level of layering ! So much layers, sounds coming from everywhere and matching perfectly is awesome ! You could hear a song several time and discover every time something you didn’t pay attention to !
Best Band imo. Excellent songwriting, creative instrumentation, perfect voice(s), and so much attention to detail in the production. Some recommendations: Never Let Me Down Again (1987), World In My Eyes (1990), I Feel You (1993), Stripped (1986), Strangelove (1987), Black Celebration (1986) ...
Excellent reaction and analysis, and yes, this was a single, you should react to the other single I feel you, anyway I think that every song on this album is great, the same on other DM albums.
Hi. Nice review. Very interesting analysis of the mix and production ! This song and this album are so great. To answer your question, the sound at the end is a distored electric guitar played with an e-bow (so played with slides but it is not a "slide guitar"). Martin plays this part live using a Gretsch (I believe it is also one of his Gretsch that was used for the record).
Amazing analize ,this song is so different and so deep when u hear it live,it makes u scream like a maniac,i had the chance to go to theyr tour this year and last year 2 times in Paris and once in Berlin, the best thing i've done in years i can say,and as a new thing to hear further would be 'A question of time' (u can find the live version wich is so much better to analize in my opinion),or another grate song is 'Never Let me down again' from 101 album(as well live version) ,until next time fellas:)
This is another Alan Wilder track ( sounds, orchestral arrangements, drums, sound effects, etc) he also composed and performed the bass line. Cinematic indeed thats how he described it himself.
This came from the gods... never heard a so well balanced song. That guitar after the chorus kills me. Do a review of Clean of the album Violator. The production is a masterpiece. Great job
Greatest band ever. The song in your room is one of the best songs on this album. I found this as a teenager and I love them. I think the album before was Violator and I think the song Enjoy the Silence is on it and that’s one of the greatest songs I’ve ever heard. I love them Dave Gahan is an amazing singer as is Martin. We sadly miss Alan so much. This song is 30 years old I think and it’s better than anything I’ve heard on the radio in the last decade.
In your room and walking in my shoes , master pieces, two of the best songs ever created . You should react to UNISON from BjÖrk , such a masterful production, please do.
If I'm not wrong with your question about what instrument was being played at the end of the song? It was a Slide Guitar played by Martin Gore! The songwriter of DM and second or back vocalist..
Off of my most loved DM-Album (ok, sometimes it's "Some Great Reward")! Thank you for going a little bit deeper! (In this video you look like the lovechild of Trent Reznor and Peter Steele 😀).
World in my eyes and Barrel of gun from Depeche mode are masterpieces of production i would be happy if you do reaction on them one day, good job mister.
You should definetely also analyse a non single output song from this album named "Higher Love". if you like well produced songs this should be right for you.
Was on stage in London for that tour in 93. That track brings the hair up on my neck. The whole set was friggin mesmerising! You look like he did then. Grow some facial hair .
That was the last charge of the brigade from Martin. A pure masterpiece but also a farewell to any upcoming decent song. I guess his talent was on its last leg after a decade of maestria
There's an AI generated Depeche Mode style song, definitely worth checking out, LIKE A MYSTERY, featured on a channel called Andrea Fryer. I was sceptical before I listened, but the result is very interesting and highly disturbing (in equal measure!). Let's just say, if the TH-cam file was merely titled, "New Depeche Mode Song", or, I just happened to hear it on the radio (without any further knowledge), I don't think I'd be able to tell it wasn't legit. My only criticisms are, it's a bit on the short side, and maybe the lyrics could be improved, but that aside...
Well, just to leave that here: I could see this reation video having another person as well. ;) But just to be clear: Depeche Mode pretty much IS Dave Gahan. Get over it. We don't need another singer.
David's voice is good but it's really Martin Gore's creativity that is what makes DM who they are and why they are so popular. You're right that they could have used another singer and still did just as well as long as it was a good lead singer. David was just lucky to be paired up with Martin Gore. Same goes with the other 2 guys.
No way. D is for Dave and M for Martin. They both can‘t be replaced. A match made in heaven. And thanks a lot for this profound analysis if this masterpiece.
No way. If it was true, Martin would be Depeche Mode's full time lead singer, although his voice can get close to Dave's but Dave have a more powerful voice, is a great live perfomer besides his studio work being huge!
Flood and Alan Wilder crafted this masterpiece. Dave was in and out of the studio out of his mind up on drugs. Alan spent day and night in the studio. Martin was coked out and Fletch did nothing but undermine Alan and complain. You say you were wrong about Depeche mode SOFAD. Until u produce an album as good or the equivalent keep making stupid TH-cam videos and trying to call yourself a producer. For one never heard of you, I hear back street boys need another producer…
The Violator album was their pop and commercial master piece. Songs of faith and devotion is deeper and is their true musical master piece in my opinion.
In 1993 I played this track to my mother. She called it "Haunting". Perfect.
This one of those i can say it's flawless. The amount of work put here... just outstanding
What a band. What a song. Great review. Another subscriber
First, let me thank you for following your viewers suggestions & analysing / reacting to this masterpiece. Former DM band member A. Wilder, combined w/ producer Flood were a unstoppable duo.
Alan Wilder was NOT the former Depeche Mode band member
It's an E bow, they use it live too for that song.
To the last sound you are wondering about how its done...It also could be a Trautonium!
BTW...If you listen further to this album you will also end up at "Mercy in you" "Rush" and last but not least "Higher Love" which are also brilliant from a production kind of view.
Love your reactions for DM. Thank you :)
Probably their best song EVER. I'm a fan of DM and I can admit this :)
Please do an analysis of My Joy. It's on the same depeche mode album and is just as layered and the production is gorgeous

This song was actually the 2nd Single off SOFAD after "I Feel You" and the release date was actually today or yesterday 26/04/93
Depeche mode have a plethora of such great tunes that just hit that sweet mid-tempo groove. Loved these guys since the early 80's
Its not just what instruments are used but how they are used
Yes yes yes ;)

I've been listening to this since 1993 and it still amazes me and it's even better live!
Same here
The version on devotional is my absolute favorite.
A masterpiece !!!!
Their work and creation for decades speaks for itself. This is how you do music
I know what I like. Now, I know more about why I like it. Cinematic - perfect summary.
Anton Corbijn has described DM’s music as “filmic” so you’re right on by calling them cinematic.
@@jlcmsw thank you!!! 😊
The best song and production from DM ever!
A masterpiece this song is in my mind since 1993
Excellent reaction and analysis, and yes, this was a single, you should react to the other single I feel you, anyway I think that every song on this album is great, the same on other DM albums.
I knew it.... depeche mode rules!
Depeche Mode are the reason I started making music but I could only dream of being even a tiny fraction as good.
Hi. Nice review. Very interesting analysis of the mix and production ! This song and this album are so great.

"Walking in my shoes" is the deepest, and one of the best Songs they ever produced.
This whole album is profound on many levels. WIMS is one of DM’s best all time songs.
This came from the gods... never heard a so well balanced song. That guitar after the chorus kills me. Do a review of Clean of the album Violator. The production is a masterpiece. Great job
To move on from Enjoy the silence to this is pure genius. Too bad things went bananas afterwards

Waithing for the night of DM is so dark
One of the most underrated Depeche Mode tracks
In your room and walking in my shoes , master pieces, two of the best songs ever created .
You should react to UNISON from BjÖrk , such a masterful production, please do.
I totally will, I only had analyzed a track by Bjork so far so that sounds like the next in the list, thanks for the suggestion.
@@bardonmusic you won’t regret it, the production will blow your mind . unison is a gem.

Nice ! Masterpiece
Should listen to the arrangement they did on the BBC with an orchestra .. amazing imo
World in my eyes and Barrel of gun from Depeche mode are masterpieces of production i would be happy if you do reaction on them one day, good job mister.
Finally you react this song
Love your analyze, please more DM soon. Peace

Omg can you analyze People are People? Subbed
SOFAD it's just perfect👌
Welcome to the world of Alan Wilder….
Do not fall for the live crap. Depeche Mode incorporates much more into their studio albums than any live performance can carry.
Was on stage in London for that tour in 93. That track brings the hair up on my neck. The whole set was friggin mesmerising! You look like he did then. Grow some facial hair .

It's not a slide, it's an Ebow...
I believe Wilder and Flood even used whale song😂its a masterpiece...ty for your analysis ❤
Final instrument was an EBow
❤
Idk why you looks like a serial killer guy in a Movie, that's great
It was a slide guitar played by Martin Gore the songwriter. Vaughn George has made a great analysis video on that
Buy the way for me each song of DM in live versión much better than studio versión
Well, just to leave that here: I could see this reation video having another person as well. ;) But just to be clear: Depeche Mode pretty much IS Dave Gahan. Get over it. We don't need another singer.

Ebow. Have one and can not make it sound like that lol
Barrel of a Gun (album ULTRA)
