Mark Lewis, greetings from Castell Nedd! Your grandpa did really well, considering he was put on the spot like that! He came across as very likeable. Is he still following the diet? I hope he’s well.
That brought tears to my eyes because I have had a similar experience. After a heart attack and bypass surgery I am on a fat free and salt free vegan diet, and feel the best I have in years. I am 74 and do about 4 or 5 miles on the treadmill most days and have lost 20 pounds. This is after only 3 months.
In 2009 I started a plant based diet according to Dr. E sselstein's book. My diabetes was very bad at the time 11.0 aid. I stayed on the diet for 3 years, my aic went down to 6.3 and my cholesterol went to normal. I caved in to intense pressure from family and stopped the diet in 2012. I am just out of the hospital after a quadruple bypass . I just rebought Dr. Esselstine's book and I am back on his program
I have to ask - What "intense pressure" was your family putting on you? If your health (or anyone's health for that matter) is at risk, then you owe it to yourself to do what is best for YOU. Family be damned.
Dr. Esselstyn best person alive to get nutritional advice from. Thanks to him at 40 I have arteries of a 22 years old after a series of tests performed in a clinic in Japan after 2.5 years on his Whole food low fat not oil plant based diet (I have to admit a lot of green leafy vegetables). I have to say I did not use any nuts of avocados during this period and only one or two brasilian nuts/week and copious amounts of ground flaxseed in all my vegetables soups. I have also been using Turmeric and black pepper together the flaxseed in nearly all my food. Other spices I used and use regularly even now are Cinnamon, Cloves, Cumin and Ginger. My Total Cholesterol is 116 mg/dl. Never felt better in my life. I do not know my artery conditions before this 2.5 years lifestyle but I was fairly active with sport and I did not eat animal flash for 3 years before starting it. I did eat eggs though and probably 2-3 weekly. I really believe now we do not need high fat foods and oils in our life and the fats contained naturally in vegetables, grains, legumes and fruits are plenty for a healthy lifestyle. I went back to Italy for a month and I had lot of vegan pizzas cooked with olive oil, alot of pastas with vegan oily sauces and pretty much every vegetable and plant food fund in restaurants was floating in oil and salty. I had not choice for that month. I came back to Japan and performed again the same battery of tests to my arteries and the results changed dramatically from my earlier result. The age of my arteries came back 35 years old. Still a little away from my real age of 40 but also far away from the 22 years old following a strict low fat not oil not salt diet. Salt, Fat, Oil impair artery function not doubt. I am now back strictly on Esselstyn nutritional advice and nothing will change this until the next short holiday. :-)
Great job presenting your situation on the spot. I stopped eating meat about 3 months ago and so glad that I did. My father died of heart disease at the age of 53 when I was 11 yrs old. I didn't want to go down that same road and think I'm on a much healthier course.
I was there in California, in 2006, when Peter came up on stage. We really do need these testimonials, if we hope to create a health care system, not dependent on the selling of more pharmaceutical products.
warren green Still running into Doctors who advise their patients to eat a low carb diet to address their heart disease, and who think Esselstyn's results are invalid. Unbelievable.

He did the same for me - reduced my Cholesterol from 7.4 to 4.8 -(the only reason it was 4.8 was that my good cholesterol-HDL - was very high of which my GP was very happy with) my weight went from 94Kg to 78kg - my inflammatory markers when from dangerously high to that of a fit & healthy 20 year old - my Triglycerides went from extremely high to below the average for a healthy 62 year old - I now operate a Lawn & Garden Care Business & have no problem conducting a very physical job & feel great - thank you Dr Esselstyn you changed my life.

Such a beautiful story! I love this doctor ! Ever since Forks Over Knives I have been so pattionate about a Whole Foods Plant Based diet ! He is an incredible person !

the skeptic remarks are also by doctors who are SO stubbornly and FRUSTRATINGLY conventional that i doubt they know what a multivitamin is. all they know is prescription drugs and nothing more.
Dr Esselstyn, I always had mild hypertension say around 140/78 pulse 62 and ever since I went on to SOS diet my BP came normal and now a days it's sitting at 119/79. Someone says you can't stop eating salt or you may die soon. I am getting different results. How true is that? Can we live without consuming salt?
Testimonials don't get much better than that. I especially liked the 0% he mentioned in repeat cardiac events. If that's not enough to convince the sceptics....then let them try it. There will be the proof.
The gentleman from Wales had placque rupture that caused his acute symptoms. He did not describe his medical care in detail, but in Europe he would not have been discharged after one day. He would have been treated with blood thinners and offered an angiogram. This is in keeping with standard of practice throughout the World. The fact that he could not even walk the length of the parking lot or complete more than 4 minutes on a treadmill indicated that he was in great jeopardy. I don't believe anyone physician would recommend acute dietary intervention as the sole treatment of his condition and it is not recommended by the European or North American cardiology societies. His symptom improvement was likely related to the dissolution of clot (thrombus) and the development of collateral circulation (new vessel growth). I doubt that any of his cardiology colleagues at Cleveland Clinics would endorse this course of treatment. Dr.Esselstyn has demonstrated through his prior study that it is possible to attain remarkable improvements in cholesterol levels through a very rigid dietary manipulation. When he carried out the study it is important to recall that no potent cholesterol lowering agents were available and angioplasty was still in its infancy. Many people were treated without intervention (surgery or angioplasty) during that time period. The size of his trial was not large enough to support the claim that dietary intervention can guarantee 100% freedom from coronary disease. By today's standards his study was anecdotal. Dr. Esselstyn is a very compassionate physician and a convincing speaker. I am sure he would agree that the best means to resolving this issue would be a trial comparing dietary intervention versus standard of care (liberal revascularization (angioplasty or CABG, lipid lowering drugs and other standard secondary prevention) in a randomized trial with Contemporary techniques for evaluation placque volume such those curently practiced at the Cleveland Clinic and other centers.
See my comment above. I was thinking that the hospital took a very casual approach to his episode and sent him away when he was still in danger. If he was getting such severe symptoms upon leaving the hospital, he should have turned back. And then he continues biking after experiencing more angina. Not advisable! It takes away from the credibility of his story. A little angina while biking after being diagnosed with something not fully stated-no big deal, keep peddling after a brief rest! This man needs to be questioned. We need more information. I believe in Esselstyn, but individual cases like the one in this video are not totally convincing. Solid proof is needed to convince the naysayers, and even to put to rest my own doubts, even as a person who believes in the benefits of a plant based diet. When I tell people about Esselstyn they are not receptive. They would have a field day with this video. I want to spread the word, but I need convincing answers to skeptics questions!

He indicated he still hasn't had a single fully compliant patient have a major CVD event on the diet, even though he has often started out with the worst of the worst, people even the cardiologists at the Clinic say they don't know how to help. I teach at Cleveland State , and two of my students had similar stories of how their husbands were saved by the Esselstyn diet. At this point in the science, I think he might consider it unethical to personally be involved in an RCT since ALL the patients who've stuck with the diet have had great results. It's like when the rabies vaccine came along: Before it came along, people simply died, then it worked for everyone, so there was no point in running a trial. In Esselstyn's case, their prior health status is the control group and a steady string of successes is the trial. BTW, there are RCTs on statins vs. a higher fat PB diet (~20% of calories from fat), and the PB diet worked as well as the statins for lowering LDL, suggesting Esselstyn's diet (~10% of calories from fat) would work even better for lower LDL. Most people truly following a VLF WFPB diet like what he recommends will likely get the LDL under 80 or lower.
You need ‘t guess what Dr Esselstyne recommends in various circumstances. He has been extremely transparent and supremely respected by the world’s finest cardiac specialists.
Tony, with all due respect, you have to eliminate ALL animal products, especially dairy products and get your total fat intake down to 10% of calories or less to get the results men like Dr. Esselstyn speak of. Any vegetarian diet including milk, cheese, eggs, etc. does very little to benefit health, unfortunately. As well, with these diets, fat intake can very easily, and most often does, exceed even the 30% fat level irresponsibly recommended by mainstream agencies. VEGAN is the way to go.
I'm a total advocate of Dr. Esselstyn and his dietary recommendations, but is it advisable for a person riding on a very rigorous and intense bike path to continue biking after experiencing angina? The professor in the video described getting angina on his bike run, stopping briefly, and then continuing. Isn't that dangerous and not advisable. Could that not have been the onset of a fatal heart attack! Also curious about the size of his blockage, how it was diagnosed-heart catheterization for example-and what other means, if any, were used to treat the original episode of chest pain that caused him to go to the hospital in the first place. We need more particulars to really prove that his condition was successfully treated and cured by Esselstyns diet. I believe in Esselstyn, but when I tell others about his studies and his recommendations they are very skeptical. They are unconvinced and need more hard proof! In individual cases like the man in this video, we need more information.
That’s because your friends and the people you talk to are brainwashed. That all they want is proof. And when they get said proof, they’re still in denial.
Dav[e]id Bello yes. There are thousands of docs, nurses, dietitians who have seen firsthand the results of Esselstyne’s program. I share but do not waste time with those for whom no amount of testimonials or credentialed evidence will ever be enough.
This was a spur of the moment testimonials. They do also have graphic evidence of how well eating this way works to unblock arteries. Have a look around YT for other videos of his and other whole food plant based doctors for talks where they show some of the pictures.
@@annwilliams6438 yea great graphic evidence of 1 case after 3 weeks. Somehow they don't have any noticeable graphic evidence of this ah so successful diet for the freaking rest of the years from so many patients that supposedly got better.

Vegetarian diet works, i am a lacto ovo vegetarian and this diet is the best diet ever and if you do this today you can keep the hospitle away. The way this man describe that diet is all true. If we all follow this diet we can tear down a hospitle wing and that will be making progress. And for further progress get rid of the pharmacy on top of that also.
My Dad has CHF and is now in the hospital and is now getting evaluated for a transplant or an LVAD, I’ve been sitting in the hospital with him and been researching ways that he can beat this because I feel like there has to be another solution. Him and my family is in desperate need of help and all they can recommend is those procedures and more medication. I would love to get access to this health program that I’ve now been watching video after video about. Is there anyone I can reach out to that can help me and my family out! I would really love to try this for my Dad. Thank you
@@PInk77W1 Except we have multiple multi-year studies that have shown profound benefits of VLF WFPB diets, essentially dropping major CVD events to zero, whereas we have low-carb studies showing weight loss but not the same kinds of heart benefits (or even much worse plaque). There are zero studies that have shown the kinds of benefits Esselstyn has shown in multiple studies.
Karl Wheatley I remember when they said oatmeal will save your life. You couldn’t buy oatmeal at the store for a month or so, it was all sold out. Then about 6 months later they came out with a “study” that says oatmeal won’t save your life. The guy that got me into cycling in 1973 died of a heart attack at 49 while cycling. He was a vegetarian. My mom never exercised in her life and was fat and smoked and ate all American diet and died at 75.
Don't knock if you haven't tried it for yourself. Just do it for a month: no animal products, period. No meat, fish, poultry, dairy, eggs, milk, cheese. And no oil. Eat veggies, fruits, beans, whole grains, almond milk, etc. See what does for you. Then judge.Be ready for drastic health improvements.
@@PInk77W1 Fair point, but that won't reverse his heart disease and ups his cancer risk, whereas this has been shown to reverse heart disease and cut cancer risk.
Karl Wheatley if he fasts 23hrs a day and eats only meat will that help heart disease? I’m guessing the fasting is better than the diet. Right now I skip breakfast everyday and eat oatmeal at 12 noon. Then work till 6 pm and eat a normal supper. I also walk from 7am to 9am daily. Coming up on 1000 miles for 2019.
@@PInk77W1 Two hours walking is terrific. I only do one. One critical factor for plaque formation is whether your LDL is under 65 or 70, but all that walking may buy you a little more wiggle room.
Karl Wheatley I never check my blood work. My two hr Walk is my little thing. I’ve cycled across USA 4x and many other crazy rides. I love walking No parts to buy. I didn’t walk today. Had a dentist appointment. But I will be back at it tomorrow
Good that something worked... but a question arises none the less... why are asian vegetarian Indians suffering heart attacks when they never ever eat anything but veggies?
The answer to what? Support with a published study. Dr. Esselstyn's diet has been proven. No other diet has data that shows it has reversed heart disease.
Nope, it is a sure fire way to get clogged arteries. Yes, it is easy to lose weight on keto, but it really sets you up for some nasty results a few years down the line. Please do actually watch (not just jump to the comment section) what the whole food plant based doctors are finding.
Dont take high dose vitamin C. There are two reasons. 1) Part of vitamin C from our diet will get converted to oxalate. So if you ingest large dose of vitamin C, the oxalate production also get increased. This can cause kidney stones or in worst case, kidney failure. 1) There is one study which shows, supplemental vitamin C increase the rate of atherosclerosis formation
@@australiantruckspotting8883 Would it be proper to say "my family and I went to restaurant for dinner?" Or how about "I had an appointment with doctor today?" "I met my friend in park today?" 🤣
Meat is not the problem. Sitting around all day is the problem. Eating from dawn till midnite is the problem. Like the good Dr. said “vegetarians eat French fries and donuts.”
Something is fishy about this guy's story: Can't walk across the parking lot yet they only give him a handful of pills and send him home? And then, the guy goes on a mountain biking training program to increase the distance he can go without having to stop from pain? And now, he's "off the medicine" but has he really reversed the disease or has he just developed collateral circulation in his heart? Not enough facts. This is what medical researchers call an Aunt Tilly Story, an anecdote without supportive data.
+thebudkellyfiles the doctor is in charge of providing the medical evidence. if you watch any of his speeches you'll see that there is more than sufficient evidence to support the story.
It happened to me, I had Angina Pectoris and the doctor said it was a muscular problem and gave me some anti inflammatory pills. Six months later I had a bypass.
I went on Esselsty's lifestyle program and lost 60 pounds and all the promises came true. I slowly started eating meat and other unhealthy foods, gained weight and all my problems returned. I am now on the plan again and I am not looking back. IT WORKS IF YOU FOLLOW IT AND DON'T CHEAT.

@@annwilliams6438 what is YT
@@annwilliams6438 yea great graphic evidence of 1 case after 3 weeks.
Somehow they don't have any noticeable graphic evidence of this ah so successful diet for the freaking rest of the years from so many patients that supposedly got better.
I want to heal my back, I can not walk without pain. I have stenosis caused by a trauma and some arthritis.
Sharon Duke , cbd oil has helped me! Also, a chiropractor who practices KST, is helping me very much! Stenosis of L4,5 and sacrum is deteriorated to serious pain. Please look into these. CBD oil must be Full Spectrum & organic!
Is himalayan salt good for balancing blood pressure and blood ciruclation because many doctors believe in the many beneifts of himalayan pink salt
@Cristian Perelló You are correct. Animal products cause disease.
Absolutely!! Well said friend!
He is from Wales boyo, not England!
VUandChips, who said England? Cheeky beggar.
Thank you
Sure, contact me using the email on this page: th-cam.com/users/headvegabout
Get Esselstyn’s book!
no oil, right?
correct, no oil.
not according to esselstyn. only fats allowed are flax and chia (for those with heart disease)
Whole foods plants based. No oil
And for those that didn't hear Dr. Ess, he said NO OIL!! lol...gotta love the guy.
Ben Elliott yes of course but we are talking about ADDED oils I think
These results simply can't be refuted! Low carbers, where are you??
They're probably all dead.
They're all taking naps at the moment.
There are many low carb videos that state the same results.
How do you estimate your fat intake ? .
Thank you .
Cronometer
Don't knock if you haven't tried it for yourself. Just do it for a month: no animal products, period. No meat, fish, poultry, dairy, eggs, milk, cheese. And no oil. Eat veggies, fruits, beans, whole grains, almond milk, etc. See what does for you. Then judge.Be ready for drastic health improvements.
There is a video on TH-cam where a fat guy ate only meat for a year and lost about 180 lbs.
I love walking
No parts to buy. I didn’t walk today.
Had a dentist appointment.
But I will be back at it tomorrow
AWESOME ❤
So where are his books to be found?
Amazon
everywhere and online
Super doc forever
Great!!!
will this heal congestive heart failure?
Yes...please read. . Dr Esselstyn's. book.
What about living the good life supplementing with high ascorbates, E, L-Lysine and L-Proline, Q10 and MSM?
Why are you supplementing?
Good that something worked... but a question arises none the less... why are asian vegetarian Indians suffering heart attacks when they never ever eat anything but veggies?
Oil,salt, sugar and sedentary life style
LOADS of greasy food.
They cook with Ghee - clarified butter
Lots of dairy, oil and salt.
What is wrong with Dr McDougall? He looks like he is in his 90s and it seems to have happened in the past 5 yrs or so.
Vitamin C (6 Grams a day) and ZERO carbs is the answer. !!
@@annwilliams6438 you can do low carb on plant based also.
Lovely Welsh accent 👍😁
I love the way the british say "in hospital"
burymedeep 2093 I love how Americans say “in the hospital” as if there’s only one.
@@australiantruckspotting8883 Would it be proper to say "my family and I went to restaurant for dinner?" Or how about "I had an appointment with doctor today?"
"I met my friend in park today?"
🤣
Like being given a winning lottery ticket.
Is he still alive?
Yes. He’s my dad and he is still very much alive and enjoying his allotment growing lots of organic veggies!
@@willowmallow Wow, Nice
Did he ever checked his arteries again??
Any changes?
@@willowmallow Lovely - I've watched your Dad's testamonial several times and I'm thrilled to hear he's still doing well over 15 years later!
Cool but my LDL is 38 and i eat everything and take statins. I have perfect LdL.
Meat is not the problem. Sitting around all day is the problem.
Eating from dawn till midnite is the problem.
Like the good Dr. said “vegetarians eat French fries and donuts.”
Unfortunately, there are multiple known mechanisms by which meat causes more heart disease compared to a VLF WFPB diet.
Is that why there are people who eat meat ans are body builders still have heart attacks?
_T_ __ my friend was a vegetarian
He dropped dead from a heart attack at 46
There is a reason why this movement is called WHOLE food, plant based. ;)
I wonder if he really even needed the medication in the first place.
Are you plant based.
+thebudkellyfiles the doctor is in charge of providing the medical evidence. if you watch any of his speeches you'll see that there is more than sufficient evidence to support the story.
thebudkellyfiles they do in uk they sent my brother home 3 times with paracetamol. He nearly died of pneumonia
It happened to me, I had Angina Pectoris and the doctor said it was a muscular problem and gave me some anti inflammatory pills. Six months later I had a bypass.
Because you do not treat Angina with surgery..pills are typical treatment for that condition of the heart.
