    I know that the guys from Eons of Battle had a similar problem with none blonde hair and such not picking up properly. They solved it with putting a light dusting of flour over themselves to get the hair to pick up. Worked pretty well in the end.
    The flour trick will probably work on most surfaces that the scanner struggles with.

    For Darker Hair, try dusting the subject with something like Baby Powder. In my small amount of Scanner Tomfoolery that really helped with being able to scan hair, and also darker skin tones

    I did this a few years ago using an xbox one kinect. Got good results from my face scan, still haven't 3d printed it for my miniatures yet however.
    Appreciate this is a paid sponsorship for creality, but to keep the hobby affordable for others, don't forget to look horizontally at other good tech, especially something you can find easily and cheap 2nd hand. 👍

    Try the app Polycam with an iPhone with Lidar. I scanned a gnome that is just shy of 2cm tall and it picked up every little detail! Every finger, every bobble on the hat, the chainmail, everything! And the coolest thing is, it textures everything for you as well. So you have a finished 3D object with textures and everything!
    And the coolest thing is you don‘t need a turning table or a special camera. Which makes it way easier and faster to scan stuff.
    I even scanned full rooms, ramps from a bike park and larger models. everything accurate and beautiful!
    So to finish my comment up: It is possible to scan EVERYTHING! Tiny minis, Candles, PCs, People. EVERYTHING!
    PS: If you need some help with Stuff like this, I live in Europe, but am still happy to help you guys!

    Nice looking little scanner, when we use industry scanners if your doing heavy detail and a heap of scans you can true adding a fix know dimension object to the scan, sphere’s or cubes. You then aligned everything based on the added object to limit the required processing correction factors. Be nice to know if this makes a difference. Great vid as always

    That reminds me of my Shadowrun group way back when. I modeled all our characters with our own faces (one of my buddies was particular fun, he played a troll) I used Poser 8.0. Took me hours to model just one face, then some more hours to model the body and the scene and then *TWO FRIGGIN' DAYS* just to render it and export it as a jpeg.

    Little tip: I think this scanner uses unique geometry/color changes to track where it’s at on objects, therefore, you can help the scanner by placing tiny high contrast (color) pieces of tape all over your subject. These little pieces of tape will act like breadcrumbs for the scanner to know where it is in space. It will need to see multiples at a time for the best result.
    Also, yes, dark (black) and shiny (chrome or white) colors will be difficult for the scanner to pick up.

    I'd love to see you do a comparison of these techniques vs using photogrametry. I've still not seen results from similar 'hobby scanners' that I would consider better than what you can get from a good set of photos and some photogrametry software.

  • @xliquidflames
    @xliquidflames ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I would love to have small busts of my family instead of portraits. So, someone should set up a portrait studio that does these instead of photos. A 3D portrait studio..? 3D printed portraits? But not minis. Like, print them as large as the 3D printer can do. That would be incredible. If they're printed well and then painted well, it would be so cool to have them on a shelf or the mantel instead of photos in a frame on the wall. Am I crazy or is this a good idea? It's a good idea, right? It would be like being a wealthy Roman or something and having a bust made but it doesn't cost a fortune.

    I have both the Lizard and the Revopoint Mini. The mini is fantastic for 28mm terrain and minis. I'd use the Lizard for anything larger. The software for the Revopoint is better overall. The creality software doesn't have enough user options. The original software actually gets better results even though it's less user friendly.

  • @lordofuzkulak8308
    @lordofuzkulak8308 ปีที่แล้ว

    Looks interesting, although I think for most of us it’d probably be worth holding off for a few more years so the tech can be refined some more; at the moment it looks like it’d be more of a novelty than a useful tool for 3D printing minis.
    Regarding the hair issue: could it be alleviated somewhat by the use of hair products? I’m thinking maybe use wax/gel to style the hair into thick clumps/strands, similar the the stylised ones you sculpted in Blender onto Jen’s model (at the risk of making your scanee look like an anime protagonist 😝). And for antireflectiveness, maybe dust the hair with talc or similar powder?

Things like photogrammetry (Meshroom for example) the Xbox Kinect or the newer iPhone's LIDAR functionality (polycam is a popular app) and compare usability and results.
