You did this all yourself and was rather expensive . , this is an honest look of cost to pass on , no bs like some other k24 builds . If you get 7 years out of the engine , break it down and get another 7 .

It was much more than I thought it would end up. Hoping I get that much out of it. I went with a kswap because I figured I can transplant the motor into so many different cars

Someone pointed out that I forgot to add connecting rods, $450.93. This brings the new total to $12,012.83. Yikes.

Rebuilt it with the old parts that were still usable. Total was about $1600 including the machine work.

It got severely abused toward the end, driven months with no one even raising the hood. They ran it completely out of oil 5 times. Since it was still in my name, and they didn’t want it any more, I went and got it. Still have it. Sad ending to the best car ever! Thanks for the video !

Little tip when using plastigauge on the bearings, good practice is to use the old bolts, on some engines the bolts are torqued to yield, meaning they stretch when fully torqued to spec. You'll have to buy new ones when you want to assemble the engine if you use the new ones!

I built a monster 383 SBC for my camaro recently. 568 hp 531 lbft tq NET hp (measured with all accessories including hydroboost) perfectly streetable on 91 octane. My grand total was 11k CANADIAN with brand new heads, full new forged rotating assembly, the full suite of machine work on a 4 bolt main block and an excellent carb. The engine will take about 950 hp and roughly 8k rpm extremely safely. All that's required for boost is swapping the heads for larger volume combustion chambers. The carb is blowthrough ready and an electric fuel delivery system was included in my 11k total. I can achieve roughly 23mpg on the highway if I tune the carb for a road trip. I like the k series engines, but that price tag is not it man. There is no way that k24 is sitting at even half the hp of my 383. I love honda, but that price to performance ratio is not it.

I have no experience with building a motor but I to and going to build what you are… holy hell this is very intimidating and will take lots of planning. K24a2 block k20a2 head

@ thanks! Looking forward to reaching out and asking questions if I can’t find it online! Thats for the positive influence.
For the block, did you choose to bore it out or keep the same compression ratio? And did you do any sort of treatment to increase the longevity of the block (cryogenic, crowd, ultra sonic , or vapor honing)?

@@graysongrzybowski943 bored out to 87.5 and compression of 12.5:1. I got other pretty detailed videos of every step of the assembly and how I did it.

I have never built an engine, but I'd like to rebuild an engine, is there a book or source if info where all the info I.e. torque specs, lube locations, etc. When I was younger we had Haynes manuals as reference.

My first project car taught me to triple the estimated cost and double the amount of time 😅
I have a k24 in my 08 tsx and considering a rebuild as it’s 225k miles now, and I can swap it into any other project later since the tsx is not my daily now and it’s so damn heavy for these engines… at least stock anyway.

Is it really worth rebuilding when you can pick up low mile Japanese k24s for $800-950? Only worth it if you're doing a high comp e85 NA build as a stock k will do 450whp boosted reliably.
