FINALLY an Apple product which is made EXACTLY for my kind of usage! It is cheap, still snappy, supports Apple Pencil (I am doing design for my Threadless shop), and CHEAP! This product is a must buy for me! I am glad that Apple is finally focusing on brokebois like me lol
This is pretty exciting for anyone who was on the fence about buying an iPad Pro just for the sake of Pencil support. If you think about it, the iPad Pro 9.7 Inch only had the A9X, so it's a step up with minimal compromise and a great price.

Thanks for the information! This new Ipad is indeed incredible for students! I am an university level biology student and I rely on my ipad so heavily for my biology courses. Not only did the ipad eliminate all my textbook and notebooks, but I also rely heavily on the Notability recording apps. I only have an ipad 4 and I've been finding that the regular stylus has been sufficient and I purchased a regular Bluetooth keyboard that I've been using for years. HOWEVER, this setup is only good for notes that you write across the page (using Notability app's zoom bar), and is horrible for calculus, math, physics. So when my brother started engineering last year, we bought the Surface Pro (since it was cheaper considering it's a laptop and tablet in one) so he can use the pen to take notes. We regretted this decision. The note taking apps on the surface pro isn't nearly as usable as the ipad. So now the Ipad 2018 being capable with the Apple Pencil, expands usability for those math and physics type courses!!!
Hey guy. I’ve been watching your videos for years now and I love how you dig deep into details and you are passionate for the brand. Although I think Apple missed an opportunity to capitalize on the educational market with the pricing and device diversity, it’s nice to see that they have finally figured out a way to reconnect with education in a big way. The tech was meh, but the fact that they will capture more interest through innovative technology with an, mostly pre-existing device, they always find new ways to innovate a step further with it. I.e the SE and this 9.7” iPad. Keep up the great work. I’m a huge fan of your work!
The problem with my current iPad (2015) is that it will not work on some sites with a payment gateway , the option to buy event tickets just does not appear when i try to use it for this purpose . I have to turn to my MacBook for this . It would be really nice if apple could fix this .
I imagine that they have a better profit margin on the Apple pen, so if they can sell more pens on an already well saturated tablet market, then they will make more money. To be honest, I’m still rocking the iPad 4th gen from late 2012. It’s sturdy, fast enough and I can’t complain about the Retina display. Looking forward to updating my kit in the future though! It’s a bit heavy, and could need more storage ;) good videos as always!
I used tablet. But was Surface Pro 3 and yeah, it was amazing experience. Pen rocked all the way. After you have done jotting, you snap the keyboard and immediately start typing. And after that, you connect bt mouse and create visuals for the next assignment in Photoshop. Yeah, tablet is the real deal for studying.
Next generation of this entry level model needs to combine the screen size of the iPad with the form factor of the iPad mini. More or less like they did with iPhone X. This would help small hands & small arms hold the device.
Your review was great. Thank you so much. The advancements in technology is amazing. Allowing the elimination of having to carry around so many heavy books is a huge weight off students shoulders and backs. It’s as the future should be. Save some trees by not having to use paper so often.

Janet Robinson Depends what used for. The pro still has the more powerful 10X processor, twice the ram, smart connectors, and the 120hz laminated screen is hard to beat. Oh, and the 4 speakers on it sound great and the little extra screen is nice- makes going to the 9.7 feel quite smaller.

Lol. I think Apple introduced Apple Pencil, which was a differentiating feature for Pro because the iPad Pro would get MASSIVE differentiating features, many of them we don’t even know, like Face ID, which would make Pro lineup different from the entry level lineup.
As i thought this was a private event for educators and students. New Apple products i.e. new iPad Pro will no doubt be announced at WWDC. This will probably include new Macs also.

I’m surprised no one is complaining about the cost of the pencil. Yes there’s now a “crayon” for half the cost but the pencil adds 33% to the educational price for just 32Gb. That’s an expensive accessory that’s easy to lose, steal or break.
Tablets are awesome for education and ebooks were the best in college... them coping Microsoft with the pen has made them decent for school but the surface pro would give the students much more possibilities. But versus a chromebook I think that it would be pretty hard to beat the new iPad... the only chromebook that could give them a run for their money is the samsung chromebook with the s pen in my humble opinion... granted I'm very bias the only tablets in my house that have no pen support are a kindle fire and lg thing i got for free.
For school, I believe a 10" ebook like the Kindle is better for the eyes, not to mention thinner, lighter and longer lasting battery. iPad would be better for media and interactivity.

I think I get Apple’s point in not having this iPad 9.7” 2018 have capability to use the smart keyboard. They basically partnered with Logitech to offer lower price offerings: Logitech Crayon - $49; Logitech Case and Keyboard $99. The prices from Logitech represent a 50% saving vs Apple Pencil, and the Case/Keyboard is a 33% savings versus Apple Smart Keyboard.
From what I read Apple did this just because of google chrome books owning most of market not an issue for adult users of iPad strictly a competitive issue for Apple
