    You can’t get get it all out, even if you drop the pan, most of the fluid is in the internal transmission. Just do several drain and fills putting some miles in between each , Larry

    I did my son’s xterra, also a 2007 and the same color, using your information and it was really straight forward. Only difference is I picked up the Nissan fluid at the dealer. Thank you

    The 2007 Nissan Xterra 5 speed automatic transmission requires matic J type fluid. Idemitsu now makes Type S for this transmission and has discontinued matic J. As per the shop service manual this transmission holds 10 7/8 quarts of fluid. A complete fluid flush requires a transmission flush machine to replace the old fluid in the torque converter, fluid cooler, and valve body. This is done by using new fluid being added and pumped through a running transmission while shifting gears. This requires quite a lot of new ATF fluid, and it is expensive. Even more Nissan recommends more frequent fluid changes if towing on a regular basis. TH-cam has videos showing how to do a more complete flush for the DIYer by accessing the return line from the fluid cooler at the radiator. See TH-cam video 10 Min Automatic Transmission Fluid Flush.

    A transmission has to be between 160 and 200 degrees and it takes time drive your car 20 minutes and check your fluid and you are likely overfilled

    I’ve been told my transmission is going bad, my 2007 has only 120,000 miles, it’s now making a clicking sound when it shifts gear! Yesterday it stopped reversing and made this big click sound, I was able to drive it home. I my neighbor says that I barely have transmission oil so we are going to buy some in the morning fill it and see if it will buy me some time. Do you think that would help or is my car gone?

    Excellent video. I have a 2012 Xterra with 94,000 miles on it. It's never had a transmission fluid change. The manual doesn't ask for it, not even under Schedule 1 (more severe), and no dealer or shop has ever offered it. The only place where it's mentioned is as an "Optional Premium Upgrade" to the 30/60/90/120k services. I checked the fluid and it looks pretty clean and clear. I wonder if I should still change it?

      A drain and fill should be no problems. It’s usually flushes that can cause potential issues depending on age and mileage gone without one

    • @volodymyrbuchak1852
      @volodymyrbuchak1852 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Manual has nothing on it,but if you go to your Explained Service Intervals (the little service book) it’ll say Under normal driving conditions trans oil/fluid is due at 60k miles,under severe (towing campers,heavy offroad) is up at 20k miles. Same for diffs and transfer cases.

    great video, thanks, i just bought a 07 xterra with 90,000 miles guy who owned it didn't drive much. anyway I figured I would change the tranny oil, differentials oil ect.. i wanted to ask seeing u have 200,000 miles have you had any trouble with the radiator? Ive read that 05-09 have a issue with valve in the radiator letting go and destroying the transmission. they said it usually happens around 90,000 to 130,00 ..I was thinking on changing out the radiator as a preventive measure,curious if u had a issue. . Thanks again !

      I still have this xterra with over 250k miles, my son uses it gainesville. So far it is still running good and have not had to replace the radiator yet, but i keep an eye on the trans fluid to see if water has gotten in it. Im sure my xterra will die soon but we are just milking the last few miles out of it. Larry
