    Should you be able to see the radiator fluid if you take the cap off the radiator? I can't see mine but in the overflow tank it's to the max line

    • @redonKiLaus
      @redonKiLaus  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Generally you should be able to. I would check my Xterra, but it's hot right now and we all know what happens if you pop the cap when the coolant is still boiling. Thanks for watching!

    No need to remove the skid plate. There's a hole in the plate where you stick the phillips screwdrive through and away you go. You need to out the coolant in the radiator first then the plastic resevorior, turn heater fan on full, drive it around the re-check. Done

    • @redonKiLaus
      @redonKiLaus  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If your cap is on the expansion tank, you just need to pop off the cap and run the vehicle on an inclined surface, assuming there is not a more specific bleed procedure for that engine (I'm not familiar with that particular one). Hope that helps, and thanks for watching!

    I think my 05 calls for green coolant. i would assume the blue will work in it also. peak now sells asian coolant in red green n blue. valvoline also has it with zerex tech, I think it's red. zerex also has asian coolant. I wonder if any if these will work? they all are HOAT n also none of the harmful chem.

    • @redonKiLaus
      @redonKiLaus  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Generally you want to stick with what came in the vehicle unless you are doing a complete flush of the system. Despite the fact that they all may be HOAT coolants, they may have chemistries that are still incompatible for mixing, but are interchangeable as far as cooling performance in a full fill is concerned.

    Hi,
    How come the manufacturer always have a sticker on stating first coolant change at 100,000 miles or 10 years? Is it because they want to sell more water pumps?
    Also, i thought water pumps are meant to fail after a certain age, hence the weep hole built right in. I am so confused.. I'm on a tight budget with my cars so I dont want to drop cash and change coolant and have to change water pump later too.. Please shed some light on us poor souls :)
    Again, really appreciate you sharing this video and your opinions. As always, love how you keep everything so clean, neat and tidy

    • @redonKiLaus
      @redonKiLaus  10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Most manufacturers don't care about what happens to the vehicles after 5-7 years (the term most people get on auto loans), so it is not in their interest to recommend a coolant change before that point. The 10 year number is just a number that is thrown out by many manufacturers in order to give some interval for coolant changes. I always have changed my coolant every 1-2 years, and have never had a water pump fail on me (even in my 4Runner, which has 166K miles on the original water pump). Of course, the water pumps all wear out eventually because the impellers spin, and moving parts will wear, but I believe that if you change your coolant like I do you will not have premature failure. Thanks for watching!

      All newer nissan take blue long life coolant most older ones take green coolant best to use nissan brand coolant if u use aftermarket or muti purpose coolant it can damage the engine. Most nissan water pumps are internal as so they run off the timing belt or timing chain

    • @Indy509
      @Indy509 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Best to do it about every couple of years, after awhile the coolant breaks down and the anti corrosion properties go out the window. Too many times I've helped people change their coolant only to see it draining rust-water.

    Hi great video. My question is do I need to use the Nissan coolant or can I just put any coolant that's 50/50 ? TIA

    • @redonKiLaus
      @redonKiLaus  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I would highly suggest using the Genuine Nissan coolant, as mixing different types can cause some undesirable reactions between coolants or between coolant and the block material. Seeing as the Nissan coolant is not much more expensive than generic varieties, it makes sense to me to just go that route. Hope that helps, and thanks for watching!

    Using the wrong fluid for this vehicle will destroy seals in the cooling system and coolant will mix with the transmission fluid and damage the transmission.

    • @redonKiLaus
      @redonKiLaus  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The mixing of coolant and transmission fluid you're referring to is not caused by failed seals, but instead corrosion and/or cracking between the wall separating the transmission cooler and coolant loops, both of which are built into the radiator (as with most A/T vehicles). Incorrect coolant can indeed accelerate the corrosion and exacerbate the issue, however, which is why I always recommend using the genuine Nissan coolant in these particular vehicles. Thanks for watching!

    That Nissan 50/50 blue pre-mix is a waste of money. So expensive. Prestone 50/50 pre-mix coolant works just as great for a 1/3 of the price.

    • @zwapzwarmp
      @zwapzwarmp 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The Nissan blue antifreeze absolutely has specific chemical properties intended for these vehicles. You don't need to buy Nissan, true. Pentosin makes the same product at a lower price. Prestone is definitely not the correct product for the application, and will shorten the life of your cooling system components.
