  • We're setting up a Trane thermostat to recognize a two stage Trane compressor.
    If the thermostat isn't setup, you'll only get one stage cooling, and your house might not cool off.
    Thermostat: Trane 624 (which is the same as a Nexia 624).
    Compressor: 2014 Trane XL 18i, 5 ton.
    Repair time: 10 minutes.
    Cost: $0.00
    Installer Manual: The steps are currently available on page 32 of the link below.

    Or you can take a screenshot of that part (1:50 mark) of the video (although it's hard to read)

    Great video and easy to follow instructions. It saved me having to have a tech come out. Appreciate it!

    I’ve got the American standard version of this. Thank you for getting me into the installer settings and not having to call my HVAC buddy to fix this again!

    thanks for such a detailed video. ill probably call my ac guys tomorrow because i just had this new hvac installed (i believe its a 2 stage 2 ton unit) and its under warranty, but my heat isn't turning on... Any idea why that might be?
    Ive set it to "hold" and it displays "heating", but nothing happens. Any suggestions?

    Much appreciated for detailed video!
    Could you explain why not 2 compressors with 2 stages ? Thanks

    • @seymour-simon
      @seymour-simon  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey, huong nguyen. It depends on the configuration of your unit. Our unit only has one compressor but it can run on low and high (2 stages). Some units have 2 compressors.

    Great Video - I assume the same process will work for setting up the 2 stage for the heat. I have done that, should the 2 stage heating flash on the screen when heating?

    • @seymour-simon
      @seymour-simon  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, Mike, if your furnace has two stages, and there's a large temperature difference, I would expect to see 2nd Stage Heating on the display.

    I have this thermostat also. I wonder if you can explain why “cool” mode no money does up and how I can get it back. The therm currently switched from off to heat only, though it did use to work. Thanks!

      @seymour-simon  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      AT, it's hard to say why it's not working properly. You might try to cycle the power or try a factory reset on the thermostat.

    How do you reset the thermostat when it’s blank and flashing

  • @jefferyhicks3678

    I have a trane heat pump, the auxiliary will not kick in until the thermostat falls behind by 4 degrees. Can this be changed in the thermostat settings so that the auxiliary heat will kick in when it falls behind by 2 degrees?

      @seymour-simon  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jeffery, you might take a look at page 33 of the linked User Guide. In particular, the "Indoor Heat Delta Stage 1 On" setting (or related settings) might be of interest.

    I have 2 thermostats of exact type. Each time there is a power off, even just a flick of second, the setting will be wiped off. In Houston, we have a lots of power flashes in Summer, due to thunderstorms. Last night, there was a microsecond power flash (again) from thunderstorm. These thermostats just went to dead mode. I had to reset mode to "cool" to get A/C running. Is there a way to let the thermostats remember the setting? Thanks.

    • @seymour-simon
      @seymour-simon  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Woody Liu, I don't know of any way to remember the settings. Sorry you're having to reset it so often. Better to be able to do it yourself rather than call someone, though.

      I have the same thermostats and same issues of loosing the settings when power outages. You would think they have a battery backed thermostat to replace these awful thermostats.

  • @bobsacket2980
    @bobsacket2980 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I see a lot of comments about power outages. Yes thank you for providing this tutorial. unfortunately, know how to reset it doesn't do much good when the power blips at 8am and you don't get home until 6pm on a 96 degree day and the unit is not cooling the whole day. 82 degrees in the house when I got home. Could you give a recommendation on a DIY replacement unit that does have a battery backup? I just want it gone. I won't call the ONLY HVAC company in town because they installed this without telling me I'd have to pay $100 a visit for them to reset it! Thank you youtube contributors for saving me from this. I just want it gone. So any suggestions for a replacement? Thanks.

      @seymour-simon  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't happen to have a recommendation, Bob, but there must be alternatives. I haven't looked. Swapping the thermostat is probably a good idea. It's pretty silly to lose the setting when the power glitches.

    My ac unit was reset by accident. I used to have it set at 77 and at 79 is when it would turn back on. I want it like that again! 🙏🏻 I just don’t know how to set it back to that? UGH! 😩😫 Can you please help me? In other words I had it set 2 degrees higher than my set temp at 77 so it would turn OFF at 77 but turn back on when temp in house would reach 79 and I really want to set it back like that! Does anyone know where is the setting that I need to do please? I have a Nexia American Standard 624 thermostat

      2cute, you might try to set "Cooling Delta Stage 1 On" to 2 degrees. This setting is on page 33 of the linked manual. I've not changed those settings, so I don't have solid guidance for you.

    • @adoseofreality8301
      @adoseofreality8301 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@seymour-simon That’s what I did earlier but there’s 2 different cooling delta stage settings I put 2 degrees to the one that says cooling delta stage ON DEGREES and then the other says the same thing but with 2 degrees where I had set it. Do I need to put 2 degrees on both of those options?? 🤷🏻‍♀️😢. Thank you for responding I really appreciate it. Been messing with it all day. UGH! 😩😫

    • @seymour-simon
      @seymour-simon  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      2cute, if you have a two stage compressor, you might try these settings.
      If you have a singe-stage compressor, then I'd leave the "Stage 2" settings as the defaults.
      Again, I'm mostly guessing since I've personally never changed these settings.
      Cooling Delta Stage 1 On -> 2 degrees
      Cooling Delta Stage 2 On -> 3 degrees
      Cooling Delta Stage 1 Off -> 0 degrees
      Cooling Delta Stage 2 Off -> 0 degrees
