    The manual of the thermostat says that connecting a wired sensor will disable the onboard sensor in the 1050 and you can only re-enable the onboard sensor to read humidity. in your video you show the 2 readings the thermostat and the sensor, I would like to have more information about the remote sensor and how can use it to average temperatures and /or schedule the individual use of the sensor in different times of the day.

      Unfortunately, I just don't have knowledge about that. Maybe if I build using another one

    I have a Trane on one side of the house and a Lennox AC on the other side. The Lennox iComfort S30 thermostat is better than the Trane Comfort control in every way. I regret not getting Lennox for the other side of the house too.

      Can you elaborate with specifics?

      @@PioneerBuildersInc I like the Lennox S30 user interface much better than the Trane XL1050 user interface. Both AC units are about the same high efficiency level (I forget the model numbers) but the Lennox outdoor unit is a lot quieter. I noticed that the Lennox fan motor is Made in Germany while the Trane motor is Made in China when I peek into the label through the grilles. In the 10 years so far (got them at the same time) I had to replace the capacitor on the Trane while the Lennox didn't need any replacement parts yet. While these are not major issues, I see many other subtle differences like this which makes the Lennox system seem more premium compared to Trane. If Trane refreshes the XL1050 with a newer model thermostat that is as pleasant to use as the Lennox S30 I think I would like it more.

    If anyone is reading this - AVOID the XL850 and get the XL1050 shown in this review instead of the crappy XL850 model. Two main reasons,
    1. The XL1050 allows you to see the blue Home screen at all times as an option, while the XL850 forces you to ONLY use the worst screensavers (bouncing text or a black screen).
    2. The XL1050 is much more accurate with the internal temp sensor. It seems that the XL850 has a bad thermal design where the circuit heats up the housing and makes the temp sensor read several degrees too high. There are many user reports about this problem on the XL850.

    Excellent video. Very informative. I have a new home with this XL 1050 thermostat and Trane Tam 9 airhandler running a XVi 18 heatpump. Will the system tell me when to change my filter? Does it sense pressure differential and know if the filter is dirty. I have searched without much luck. Thanks again for the great presentation.

    One of the most annoying things about the Trane XL850 thermostat is the screen saver. In the menu there is only the option to make the temperature BOUNCE AROUND or to make the screen ENTIRELY BLACK. I don't see a way to "disable" the screen saver so that I can always see the blue home page. Do you know if there is some trick to getting rid of the stupid screen saver? The bouncing temp reminds me of Windows 95 screen savers from the 1990s and is annoying to look at. I don't want to see a black screen either that makes it look like power went out.

    • @PioneerBuildersInc

      Sadly, I don't. I suppose it saves a minor amount of money, but probably not much

    • @ddbear8786
      @ddbear8786 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I found the solution by getting rid of the XL850 and instead I swapped it out with the XL1050. The XL1050 model has the option to disable the screensaver and see the blue Home screen at all times. I am guessing that the XL850 doesn't have this option because the smaller unit does not have enough space to put 3 button options so the user is stuck with only 2 options, bouncing text or a black screen. I am so much happier with the XL1050 now. @@PioneerBuildersInc

    A ton? More like "a kilo of information" For as big as this thing is, it should be able to provide more useful data, like power usage records. Also it is slow to load most screens, has few screensaver options, and only 3 info apps on the home screen. There is room to provide both C and F temp readout at the same time, so why not? My Google nest was a more functional and attractive and a smaller unit -- this one could stand significant improvement.

    I have had a Trane AC/heater for 10 years now and I will never buy another. Very poor design, poor service from untrained technicians. and no help from Trane Corp. Have continually gotten run around from their service dept. They will not help and keep referring you to a local dealer.

      @@PioneerBuildersInc You are probable not a full time user of their zone system. I have had it for 11 years. Here are some things I have learned. You cannot "close off" a zone completely. The Computer program provides for a 40% bypass of air in closed zones, the controller cannot be updated except by the dealer, unlike your computer system and some vehicle systems which are updated on line. This means the customer has to PAY the local dealer to get the controllers updated. As an engineer for over 25 years this is very poor service from Trane. I worked at a Ingersoll Rand subsidiary which was very profitable until they were purchased by IR, the plant was closed 10 years later because of IR
      poor management
