I absolutely love Emma Jones and all her English Paper Piecing techniques. I also love her fabric she chooses, she has such a gift for needle sewing. I love sewing but I do find it like her, sewing things at night sitting by my husband watching a movie and sewing my little English Paper Piecing projects. Thank you Karen for sharing Emma with us!

I've admired Emma for quite sometime and love your beautiful work. Thanks for interviewing her. I have one of my grandmother's sewing box. It's of very low quality because she didn't have the money when she was young to buy anything of great quality but it is quite precious to me. You always do a great job interviewing. Thanks

I’m interested in Emma’s comments about teaching children to sew. At the school I worked at it became a sort of a tradition to make some sort of quilt/duvet cover to be raffled off every year to raise funds for school trips etc. Each year we chose a different type of craft - embroidery, appliqué, screen printing, stencilling etc.and chose a simple squares with sashing pattern. Every year had a different theme. I sewed the final production.I remember the first year was embroidery with the theme of spring. It was amazing to see all of these 12-13 yr old rugby sorts of boys all sitting around embroidering pictures of tractors, spring animals etc. They loved it. I did wonder when I started how it would go but the following year they all requested another go. The junior class even wanted to make one for themselves using simpler designs. Thoroughly recommend it.

I just want to say that it was this young lady who got me interested in English paper piecing when I found her TH-cam channel. I’m learning to sew and quilt for the first time in my life in my early 60s and have found the English paper piecing projects to be the most rewarding for me, and thanks to Emma, I got off to a good start.

I just started EPP, and you and Emma have inspired me to get out a treasure chest that my daughter gave me. I'm thinking of keeping my tools, hexie papers,
squares of fabric, and other tools in it. I also have some really pretty paper I will use to decoupage parts of it with, after I cover the brown with a lighter color paint. I will also add a handle to it, or maybe handles on the end.☺️ I also have a heavier chest I bought when working at a fabric store, and will use in the meantime, till my other one is decorated.
EPP is going to take me a long while, deliberately, to use up my scraps (we always degenerate more!).
So, I'll have time to work on this treasure chest this summer, to use in coming years.
    Emma, your stitching is beautiful!!

Great interview with Emma. Her beautiful work is a credit to her and the love of hand embroidery from her grandmother. My grandmother lived in England but I only met her when I was 9years old. I'm left handed but taught myself to crotchet watching her when she lived with us. I admired her beautiful embroidered doilies, tablecloths etc with fine crocheted edging. I have her suitcase in my sewing room and store her works in it. I love and appreciate the skills used to create handmade items and glad I inherited the love of sewing, knitting and crochet from her.

Another great interview. I have just started getting into EPP, and I really love hexies - so that is my new obsession. I checked out her website and already downloaded some of her patterns to try. Thanks!

I started out with hand sewing and still love it. Machine sewing feels like work but hand sewing is more like a meditation for me. I never enjoyed using cardboard inserts much. I always felt I was wasting them if they couldn’t be reused. Last year my local quilt shop showed me inklingo, I love the simplicity of printing the shapes onto the fabric and sewing them together.

@@emmajonesvintagesewingbox truth is truth, I truly enjoyed it. It wasn't preachy, just a light hearted informative interview. Most are too grand standing for me to want to sit through and I skim through them to see if they really have anything worth listening to, they do have good info buried in them, just don't like the preachiness that you have to listen to to get you there. Feels fake, you feel genuine, definitely not preachy.

I enjoyed your interview with Emma because I love EPP, and all slow stitching. I had to chuckle when you mentioned Mrs. Billings’ Coverlet because I am currently working on it. What an undertaking, but I absolutely love it. And of course it will have to be hand quilted when it’s completed. Oh so many seams. 🤦‍♀️

Yeah! Love her channel! Been looking forward to this interview since you announced it. I like EPP, and also hand piecing. Strictly a hand quilter as I don't own a working machine (also work in a very small space). Agree about the ladder stitch - and it really strained my eyes. Thought that fail was just me. Also, yes; boys should learn these skills. Men who quilt and knit so often bring a fresh perspective to the crafts. Thanks to you both for the enjoyable interview. :)

What a lovely lady. I have a long-term EPP project too. I want to make my version of a purple Grandmother's Flower Garden quilt like the one my Grandma said was her favourite of all of the quilts that she had made. No one seems to have the quilt or a photo of it so I am forced to try to make it from memory. Did it have white paths, were the flowers double petaled, etc? It will be my own spin on it. I too taught my son to sew. My sisters and I were well tutored. My dad broke his leg as a kid so was home from school for months(it was the 50s). His mom and grandma taught him to knit and embroider. He does the most beautiful embroidery!! And my daughter does woodworking. No limits!
