  • Made a day trip to the ACWR in hopes to get a green and crème leader, but got an even better deal with one of two remaining "Alstom Grey" SD40-3's, #6922. 6922 is one of only two Alstom Grey engines left in the country, and looked awesome as it lead ACWR train #500 up the Sandhills Line from Aberdeen to Candor. Also included is the Aberdeen and Rockfish, Laurinburg and Southern, Martin Marietta GP9 and 10s, CSX W642, and a look at the Laurinburg-Maxton Airport graveyard. Thanks for watching, don't forget to like, comment and subscribe if you enjoyed the video!

    3:42 the St Lawrence & Atlantic railroad actually currently obtains 2 Alstom Gray SD40's (6904,6908) and QGRY Own's (6913,6920). All four units still in the Alstom Gray.

      Yuuuup Lol and 6904, 6908, 6913 and 6920 all still have their CN style headlights and ditchlights...

    Another very cool NC shortline is the NCVA. They run every day from Ahoskie, NC to Boykins, VA to interchange with CSX F768 and back to Ahoskie, the railroad utilities slug sets to take the train. I have done several videos chasing them.

      Never thought about chasing them, I may have to though. Are they owned by G&W?

    • @CSXRailfanfilms
      @CSXRailfanfilms 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      They are but only 2 out of 5 of there locomotives are in the G&W paint scheme.

      They tend to leave Ahoskie at 8AM and they get to Boykins about mid day, then they head back south.

    The ACWR is a great catch when you can watch them take/return a 90car grainer from NS or CSX with run through power. It's wild to see those newer NS locomotives lead those trains all the way back to Charlotte. Awesome scenic views coming through small towns.

    • @FloridaRailfan
      @FloridaRailfan  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, I think the run through power would definitely be neat to see, especially if an ACWR was up front...

    Great video Florida Railfan! One small correction with the description, there are more than just two Alsthom Grey SD40s roaming around with a stone company in Texas having a few, the WCOR in Pennsylvania/New York has 2, and a few more on the NSM.

    Great video. These are all my backyard railroads as I live in Sanford. You video makes me realize what I have been taking for granted the last couple years. I need to get back out and take some videos myself.

    We have the 6904 and 6908 up here on St Lawrence & Atlantic, both still in GCFX grey and orange like 6922.

    Awesome! You should chase the Caldwell county railroad in Hickory they normally operate once a week on tuesdays starting at 9. It’s a hard chase but definitely worth it.

    This Is An Amazing Representation Of One Of The Greatest Shortlines In North Carolina. Well Done. I Have One Small Question, What Camcorder Do You Use?

    Perdue has a large feed mill but Mountaire's is even bigger. I believe when it was built it was the largest in North America at the time.

    The section from Star to Gulf, especially the closer you get yo Gulf is all but abandoned. Tracks are still in place but slowly being taken over by weeds and most railroad crossings have the lights covered or turned.

      Thanks for sharing, I haven’t been able to find much recent documentation of movements along that portion so I kind of figured so. A train sure would look good rolling up and down those hills though…

    Nice!! Also question, did the ACWR bought those Ex-CSX GE AC6000CW's?

    • @FloridaRailfan
      @FloridaRailfan  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe they were bought by Progress Rail Leasing (PRLX), and ACWR did repairs on them in Candor and stored them for PRLX until the leasing company needed them. I *think* that's how it went
