I am so honored you brought me up as an example in this interview, Paddy. I learned so much in Paddy's class - totally worth it! It really took me by surprise hearing my name come up here 😂 Here's a link to my channel: youtube.com/@amillison
5 Key takeaways I got from this (Read till the last one - its the most important!): 1. Make sure that every video appeals to CCN audience (C = Core i.e. these are people obsessed and are super fans of a topic/niche, C = Casual i.e. people interested in the topic, but won't subscribe and go crazy - the video just piques their interest. N = New viewers i.e. people just mindlessly scrolling on youtube and just find your thumbnail/title interesting 2. Make videos that are novel or unique or interesting 3. Have clear goals for your content - are you doing it just for the views or for the fun of it or you want to make some passive income or you want to turn it into a business or want to promote your business products? 4. Keep the thumbnails simple, people have less than 1 second to glance at your thumbnails - keep the elements e.g. text, images to maximum of 3 5. This would be the the most overlooked thing throughout the video because you don't see how it immediately can give you 10x or 100x results BUT of all the stuff Paddy talks about, this is the 1 single most important thing you can take away from the video - You have to BELIEVE that CONTENT will take you from 0 to 1, from ZERO to HERO, from 0 ad revenue to $$$ millions of ad revenue, from 0 sponsorships to 1,000s of sponsorships, from 0 sales to Millions of sales of your product - this is why a lot of content creators, marketers and businesses end up not creating content, as Paddy mentioned, people make up excuses "It's too niche!" "It's the algorithms!" "I'm stuck at 200 views!" All I can say is that the internet, since its inception right till the aliens come or the world ends, will always be about 1. Content and 2. People. Without Content there is no point of the internet, and without people there is no point for creating content! If you are interested in changing your mindset about CONTENT and being able to do something about it I recommend you read the book, "Clickonomics: How to Win Customers and Influence People on the Internet"

I love how all of this is "simply" digital marketing done well. Marketing is not advertising, but a much bigger field (which includes Product, Placement, Pricing, and eventually Promotion) and that includes research, competitive positioning, and overall, every bit of strategy Paddy mentioned.
You are right, people like Paddy, are getting people to do digital marketing without making it look like some academic, hard-core thing to do that only is doable by academics and pros. Something for me to think about as I try to teach digital marketing skills to entrepreneurs - teaching without 'teaching'

Jay, your interview skills are SO GOOD! You are fast in asking the questions we all have in our minds but havent processed yet, and you turn the conversation into very specific yet interesting topics. Loved you since day 1, Keep it up!
Key takeaways so far are "testing title excitement with peers", "searching your niche by most viewed and video length", ccn and more time on pre-production..halfway thru.

I’ve heard so much about Paddy Galloway that I could not scroll past this video. Since I’ve struggled with growing my channel being that I share “what I’ve learned in Life” not necessarily boxed in a niche. It was nice to hear from one of the best TH-cam strategists on how I should move forward with my channel. Oh! Thanks Jay for the 1of10 sub code😊..I’ve been wanting to try it out, but it was expensive for me (dollar issues)
I hear what you're saying about limiting beliefs, but as someone who's had a previous TH-cam channel, I had such HIGH BELIEFS and hope for my channel. I won't say it failed, but I got caught up in the SFS system that was just empty numbers with minimal engagement. I researched, strategized and put in daily effort for over a year to try to grow my channel. Lost sleep editing, swallowed my pride when marketing and promoting my content, networked, and poured all my heart into the channel. There are factors that do affect your growth (I don't want to make it political), but I think keeping a REALISTIC view is just as important than dreaming big. It's healthier for your mental state. At least that's what I discovered. Tons of hard work, followed up by repeat disappointment messed me up. Now I make videos for fun. If people watch, they watch. It's a creative outlet I enjoy. ....but I'm still watching to see if I can learn something that might help.😅
I peeped at your channel and the subject matter is 100% interesting, but your titles would make it so hard to find it in youtube search... theyre so long and clunky
I completely understand how you feel. Working so hard, trying to learn everything possible and being let down time and again is literally soul crushing.
Almost done watching this whole interview. And this video confirms it… Paddy is one of the best TH-cam Strategists in the industry. Practical and intentional frameworks and strategies 👍🏻
Thank you for this video, it’s funny how there are thousands of videos on TH-cam on how to make it on TH-cam. But a lot of them I find very douche or hard to follow and you end up, leaving with more questions than you did coming in. Having a format like this, and putting things into simple perspective like this really help me be able to picture things better.
Great interview. I'm at 38 min mark and the best part IMO so far is when Paddy talks about and gives examples of the successful titles/thumbs that have worked before. Please do more of that with other guests. Thx!!!!!! Enjoy vidsummit. and congrats on fatherhood.
It is legitimately discouraging how accurately Paddy nailed the reason why Jenny video got so huge. Atleast, my gut-feeling tells me he is correct on that recalling how I felt watching that video when it came out. My initial theory was how confident and devoid of doubt she was, but I think Paddy is more accurate imo. It is our association with youth and unprecedented approach, the interesting-ness of that video was just so high I recall. Anyways, thanks for the video, very useful and inspiring.
Years ago, I was fortunate to have a session with Paddy for over an hour! This was back when he was a bit newer on the scene. It was a fantastic hour and I received some solid advice that has helped me improve. I’m always working to incorporate his advice into my videos. Super nice guy and very knowledgeable. (Full disclosure - his advice was golden - I need to do better in actually following it. So I’m not “viral”, but that’s on me)
Awesome interview. Took lots of notes. He even nailed it on why Jenny’s interview did so well. Young creator figured it out, but also she wasn’t lucky. She is sharp and worked hard to make great content.
You're a great interviewer. You ask very concise but relevant questions and you let the person speak without interrupting. I wish more people were like you. You let him add a lot of value. Subscribed!
Ayyyy! The video that took you over 100k subs, and the perfect guest at that! Such a good episode, always so much fire with you and Paddy. You genuinely ask the best questions Jay, congrats on 100K!
"Start more niche and grow it out from there." I love that. At the beginning of my TH-cam journey, I found a niche I liked, but I focused too much on the subgenre rather than allowing myself into the genre itself. That shortened my video ideas by a long shot. But starting small and expanding the channel's topic seems way more feasible, especially since everyone's way to the subscribers they want is different.
Wierd hairstyles vs good looking hairstyles may be... anything connected with looks like makeup and hairstyle there are a lot of creative stuff we can do ..
I've watched quite a few videos of yours in the last couple weeks and I can confidently say that this interview very well may be the best information dump of any others. Of course I came from originally watching your Jenny Hoyos Interview, but this one really got me thinking about what I WANT from myself and how to achieve it. I've been a music producer professionally for about 10 years and I've been trying to figure out how to do music I like for MYSELF instead of the group I'm part of... while also creating a sort of format for content that people would enjoy. This video is the one that sparked something in me on how to grind in a way to authentically stay myself while also generating ideas that would be interesting to viewers. The CCN Framework is wonderful, but there really are so so many gems in here other than that. I don't want to explain it in this ultra long comment, but about 15 minutes into this video I got my notebook out went back to the beginning and started taking notes. If there is one video anyone should watch to help set you in a direction you want for your channel it is absolutely this one. Thanks for all that you do Jay. Wonderful content. Keep crushing.
I know why that video went viral 1: that title was on point so I clicked 2: that girl was so much excited to share her secret tricks and her style of narration made me watch it in one go.
The interviews and podcasts really help us to grow on yt , not everyone understands this and think what I can learn from this 1 hour video where 2 peoples are just talking and doing Q&A , but smart TH-camrs know the value of interviews.
Jenny's video blew up because of the topic and the timing. Shorts was hot and nobody had publicly "cracked the code" on them yet, so a video breaking down the shorts strategy of a successful short-form creator was in perfect alignment with what your audience wanted.
Props man.... you asked so many questions I had coming to mind as the interview progressed - truly appreciated! The only question I had that you didn't ask was regarding CCN: I've heard a slightly different take where each video focuses (more or less) on one of those categories but the schedule of the channel itself mixes them in over a given time period (Example: Post 4 Core, 2 Casual, and 2 New videos every 8 weeks). I see strengths and weaknesses to both approaches... wondering if there really is a "best" approach.
POWERFUL information and interview. Just what I needed. You asked very effective and thoughtful questions especially trying to balance between, passion, viewership, and ad sense. I think there are many people wondering whether their niche can be expanded to other areas to obtain better ad revenue with advertisers. CPM is another concern. Being in the Art/Automotive Design/Draw Cars niche, this is really hard. CPM is low for art and artist struggle. Jay, you should see if you can interview Kelsey Rodriguiz! She has cracked the code for the Art niche getting a lot of sponsorships. Her CPM is increasing due to attracting more advertisers. She is building a 5 figure/month business. Her videos are excellent and engaging.
As a TH-camr about to crack 1k subs. This answered so many direct questions I had asked at one point in my journey either out loud or in my head. Thank you! 🔥
I've done both. I've currently settled on scripting and I have a teleprompter. I think, many people may differe, Ive got quite good at it not being thet robotic. I can be reading, shift to bot reading, and then pickup reading again. I landed on this approach because I beoieve they are more value dense in a smaller space of time without missing stuff out , etc.
I wish I could afford to hire Paddy as my TH-cam strategist. I nerd out on this kind of stuff so I've learned a lot. But I would still say that most of my problems stem from ideation. And I'm sure there's other things that I'm doing wrong that I have blind spots on. I need someone who knows what they're doing to put fresh eyes on it.
Thanks for taking the time and energy to make this video and touch on some of these topics! In all honesty, the more "strategy" videos I watch on TH-cam, the more I realize how creativity is actually dying on TH-cam as a whole. It seems that there are SOO many "formulas, strategies and techniques" that we are FORGETTING and have forgotten HOW to be creative. What I have noticed with myself is that I am starting to become BORING (to myself) on TH-cam because I am chasing views and subscribers, and all kinds of other metrics while trying to study what people like to watch vs what I want to actually put out. I also find myself slowly changing up my content (away from what I want to put out) for brands and opportunities with other brands. I do understand that there are some people who want A LOT of views and don't care about the other parts of a video. (If this is what they want to focus on that's ok.) I just wish there was more of a PUSH for creativity (although it's subjective) on TH-cam as a whole! Again GREAT video and always great topics on this channel! Keep up the great work! 👍🏾
I feel like all these tips and strategies apply mostly to a segment of TH-cam creators: ones who create based on niches and themes. I wish someone would cover for all the TH-cam creators I follow, which are mainly in people & blogs category and they just share whatever's going on in their life and they don't actually have a niche outside being a personality.
This makes me feel so much better. I was concerned my videos arent getting videws because of my niche. But now i just feel motivated to keep going and believe in Myself! Thank you so so much ❤❤❤❤
Good one! Two questions 1) For innovative ideas, you can't look at past performance on either your own or others' channels, so what would be the primary way of evaluating whether an idea is something to go forward with? 2) Depending on the content that you're doing (i.e. long form and depending on guests etc.), it can seem harder to come up with 100 ideas, as opposed to if you can "just" film it yourself. Thoughts on how many ideas you should come up with a day/week depending on the type of content?
I love all this theory BUT I can't escape the feeling it all comes down to one thing: having a good idea. Paddy here is extremely good at interpretation of analytics etc but he also has endless ideas for videos.
Sheesh, the way this TH-cam expert spilled the tea on content strategy hits different - no cap, it's giving main character energy with that BDE approach to making any niche go viral af! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
hey paddy the only secret to you tube is those verbs: KNOW, SEE ,HEAR,MOTIVATED If you can know what your audience want to "know and see" "to know and learn" "to see and watch" "to know and motivated" ... You will get many responses for each and those responses should be covered in details and in wow way in an anticipating build way in a clifhu ger way .... You would get hight quality video that make great retention
This is an awesome video. I've watched Paddy's stuff before ans it's all inciteful. It's very inciteful and hopefully it can make a lot more people aware of this content. I see far too many people whine about certain things and don't bother to learn how to do something or how something works, whether it be DMCA and TH-cam or something else. This is an excellent breakdown in terms of marketing as opposed to all of these guys that like to think they have the secret but aren't really growing.
Thanks so much for the valuable insights! I’m new to TH-cam and working hard to apply techniques like these to improve my content each day. Hoping I can attract more views and connect with a wider audience. Your tips are incredibly helpful - really appreciate it!
I feel like many creators struggle with thumbnail design due to their creative nature. They often aim for visually stunning images, but this can sometimes hinder clickability. While the result may be aesthetically pleasing, it might not be the most effective way to attract new viewers.
Why did the Jenny Hoyos video do so well? Because she's exactly what they want people to think of as a TH-cam creater - it's a full house, age, demographic s the lot. Not to mention the video is about shorts, what they want to beat TikTok
Immersive translate is great for subtitles. It allows you to switch translation tools from Microsoft translate to Baidu translate to Open AI. Thats mostly why i love the app. And its free. Loved the video
To me this is a big solution to me as a small creator ❤ I have been stocked with low views for some months now and it’s really disappointing and doesn’t motivate me to create more videos 🤦♀️ but after watching this Podcast 😍 It’s really inspiring & informative
If posting videos doesnt motivate you then youre in the wrong field my friend! Try being me and low views each and every videos, not cus they suck but cus my niche is saturated! and after amost 7 years of this I STILL POST VIDEOS NOT GIVING A FCUCK IF PEOPLE LIKE THEM OR NOT! why? Because I just enjoy doing it! simple! the day you stop enjoying making videos is the day you should quit and keep your day job! BTW keep your day job regardless,,,,at least my sponsors pay me well that i dont need to work!
Learning slowly the patterns, it is a continuous improvement process. After every video i say myself last was not good enough to get views and work hard for next instead of blaming any other thing.
Thanks for this video Jay! Some great takeaways like the CCN model and the tips on simple thumbnails. Appreciate everything you do. Lots of inspiration for new channels like mine 👍

The Barber niche is the hardest would love to see you comment on that one! Great video
Wierd hairstyles vs good looking hairstyles may be... anything connected with looks like makeup and hairstyle there are a lot of creative stuff we can do ..
Super interesting conversation!
Cheers Jay and Paddy🙂
The interviews and podcasts really help us to grow on yt , not everyone understands this and think what I can learn from this 1 hour video where 2 peoples are just talking and doing Q&A , but smart TH-camrs know the value of interviews.
another paddy podcast = life is good
🙌
Jenny's video blew up because of the topic and the timing. Shorts was hot and nobody had publicly "cracked the code" on them yet, so a video breaking down the shorts strategy of a successful short-form creator was in perfect alignment with what your audience wanted.
Agree
loved this interview and how Paddy explained the smart questions of Jay. loved the CCN framework and how to analyzing videos.
I've watched so many gurus trying to give advices but what he shares is absolutely gold! Thank you Jay for doing this!
SILVER PLAY... on the wayyyy!!
Permaculture has a massive following and is fascinating, really niche would be to talk about the wheels of toy cars.
Just check your channel. Title must improve. Your thumbnail and idea too..
If you cannot afford a strategist, analyze your best competitor.
I wanted to point out that you let the guest speak. Thanks for that! Many interviewers interrupt too much ❤
I appreciate you doing these interviews! I've watched a few of them multiple times-there is such a wealth of information in these videos!
(If this is what they want to focus on that's ok.)
I just wish there was more of a PUSH for creativity (although it's subjective) on TH-cam as a whole!
Again GREAT video and always great topics on this channel! Keep up the great work! 👍🏾
Imagine what videos would be on TH-cam if there were no like or view stats and no monetization… Just the ability for people to comment and connect
@@HaveABetterPurposethere will be no videos beleive me

BORING!!
Congratulations on 100K!! I’m considering slowing down on short form content to put more energy into long form. What are your thoughts?
I enjoyed how you let him talk so much. Restraint is a quality that few have. Great job.
Thank you so so much ❤❤❤❤
That was packed with great information. Loved it Jay. I am an established creator but still feel like I just scraping the surface. Thanks.
Jay! I'm so happy to see Paddy back on the channel. I always enjoy his takes on content creation. Kudos!
I appreciate you rudy!
Good one! Two questions
1) For innovative ideas, you can't look at past performance on either your own or others' channels, so what would be the primary way of evaluating whether an idea is something to go forward with?
2) Depending on the content that you're doing (i.e. long form and depending on guests etc.), it can seem harder to come up with 100 ideas, as opposed to if you can "just" film it yourself. Thoughts on how many ideas you should come up with a day/week depending on the type of content?
the ultimate variable for success for interview channels is always the guest
Just discovered your channel and that was a really great interview. It's crazy how good your questions are! Keep up the good work
I love all this theory BUT I can't escape the feeling it all comes down to one thing: having a good idea. Paddy here is extremely good at interpretation of analytics etc but he also has endless ideas for videos.
Sheesh, the way this TH-cam expert spilled the tea on content strategy hits different - no cap, it's giving main character energy with that BDE approach to making any niche go viral af! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
3 weeks since I started my channel, 38 subs so far from viral, but I'm enjoying it so far! Congrats on 100k!!!
I see a new Paddy interview, I click!
hey paddy the only secret to you tube is those verbs: KNOW, SEE ,HEAR,MOTIVATED
If you can know what your audience want to "know and see" "to know and learn" "to see and watch" "to know and motivated" ... You will get many responses for each and those responses should be covered in details and in wow way in an anticipating build way in a clifhu ger way .... You would get hight quality video that make great retention
Congrats on hitting 100k
Jay & Paddy, thank for putting this together. This is such valuable information!
Someday I'd love to work with Paddy!
fantastic ideas and insights. i've been doing youtube full-time for a decade and i still feel like i have no idea what im doing lol
CCN is a very interesting way to "see" your own packaging. I love these interviews thanks!
Loved this talk. I liked the thumbnail tips! :) The glance test and how to keep titles short and concise.
Another amazing episode! Congrats on the 100k!
Such good questions, to the point, no fluff ❤❤❤
Thanks so much for the valuable insights! I’m new to TH-cam and working hard to apply techniques like these to improve my content each day. Hoping I can attract more views and connect with a wider audience. Your tips are incredibly helpful - really appreciate it!
This videos going to get you to 100k! Congrats!
Here’s hoping!
Congrats on hitting that 100k 🎉👊😉👍
I feel like many creators struggle with thumbnail design due to their creative nature. They often aim for visually stunning images, but this can sometimes hinder clickability. While the result may be aesthetically pleasing, it might not be the most effective way to attract new viewers.
Why did the Jenny Hoyos video do so well? Because she's exactly what they want people to think of as a TH-cam creater - it's a full house, age, demographic s the lot. Not to mention the video is about shorts, what they want to beat TikTok
100k Subs! Finally...getting what you deserve! Congrats Jay!
I've had 3 vids on my channel cross the 100K view mark, then many other vids will drop down to around 7 or 10K. Watching this video I'm beginning to understand why. Thanks for a great tutorial! I just changed the title on my latest vid to 'Is my Starship Enterprise model the BIGGEST DIORAMA EVER CREATED?!' Let's see what happens!
it's been a long time since last interview with paddy great sauce man keep it up work J.
Appreciate the encouragement! I feel like I’m carving out a new niche so am looking for inspiration where I can find it.
As I am thinking about re-branding my channel into a broader viewership, this video has been released at a perfect time! Can't thank you enough and Paddy for such an educative video. ❤🎉
Dude, there are a lot of people into permaculture on youtube. And it is definitely more than sustainable horticulture. It really about sustainable living in general and be applied to growing food, or sustainable housing or even sustainable communities.
Congratulations man on the 100k
thank you!
I literally believe that know one will ever actually share how to go viral they are just trying to motivate everyone else to keep making content
This was one of the best videos I’ve watched for creating videos and building an audience. Thank you so much! I will try an implement some of your suggestions.
Great work keep up really enjoy you flow and style in this video and love how the TH-cam community is showing you so much love
That was very useful 💪and well done! I always say to anybody just post video on what you like and you will learn from mistake, but at some point we got stop over thinking and just post it.
Wow, Paddy interview is very helpful, Learned so much from it. This is gold!
Why is something this amazing FREE? Astoundingly fantastic video!!
can’t wait to watch this on my flight to vidsummit
If you see me there, let me know what you think!
Congrats on 100k! Great video!
top tier!
How would you create a vlog?
I’m looking to get back to my channel soon and am trying to think through how I want to format my videos about renovating my underground bunker into our home.
I wish paddy talked about storytelling and audience retention
