I like your content, but I couldn't read the list "Today you will learn" (I paused the video to write this), the color leaking, the contrast with grading blue, it's 1AM and I can't read it. I hope this comment helps anyway, getting back to the video.
It's refreshing that he actually acknowledged that not everyone wants a bro screaming at them. I've not seen any other of the top youtube gurus acknowledge that. Very thoughtful guy with a huge wealth of information. Thanks for your channel, Jay! It's great.
Paddy is the man! The way he broke down his system is eye-opening for me. My pre-production has been non-existent. Time to flip my process on it's head and do it the right way. Thanks for a great interview!
Man I wish to find a small group of people that want to be in a group together and help each other. I focus on positive commentary. I know a lot of analytics. Been studying TH-cam for 2 years non stop. The only thing stopping me as crazy as this sounds is fear. Fear that my channel will succeed, but I just didn’t use the right niche. I know sounds crazy but this is where having a group of likeminded content creators can create strategies, talk, and help each other.
hey it's good to create a bunch of channels and experiment.. that way it's ok if some ideas don't work.. and we learn from what does not work, even if it is depressing when nothing seems to work like with my songs that people love to hear live but i get very few views on TH-cam.. I'm maybe just ugly though :) my songs are from my heart though so i hope one day people will feel i meant something
Really interesting - seems like there's a slight conflict between the things that are useful as beginners vs as intermediate/expert. For a beginner, I think the advice to get going, just get videos out and make something to learn to be able to make decent content and get some feedback is still fairly valid, though I'm sure ideas and thumbnails will still have an implact. But really it's once you're confident that you are able to execute on your ideas and produce what you plan that spending a lot of time on ideas and pre-production become more important - I think many of us get stuck in an in between phase of churning out marginally improved content that gets quite repetitive, which can feel like a grind for the creator and probably also for the audience!
TRU. people often fail to give good context on why the advice they are giving actually worked for them. Like with thumbnail text, he called it out being good for some and bad for others. took me so long to realize that sometimes you can get good advice at the wrong time
This is a great interview. I learnt a lot. I'm a Programming Educator, always find it hard to take generic TH-cam advice but it's always great to hear from people who work on big bets!
This is honestly the #1 resource for someone wanting to grow on TH-cam. You literally get the key ideas from the top TH-cam expert for free. I feel like I should have paid £1000 for this video
Great conversation, Jay and Paddy! Loved Paddy's thumbnail comments on action (entertainment channels) vs curiosity loops (talking head channels) angles. As an a content creator in the latter category, I can see the appeal of entertainment channels' thumbnails but struggle if and how to replicate it. Also appreciate Paddy's comments on growing more while publishing less by being more tactful, with Noah Kagan's channel example. Food for thought!
For baby TH-camrs, the worst nightmare is waking up to "NO" change in subscribers and views. It's painful when your efforts go unnoticed. But remember, faith in yourself and your work leads to the right path. Success will come.
Hey man you drawings are actually amazing. I suggest 1. talking over the Timelapse , 2.or maybe even putting a viral clip at the bottom and your drawing at the top. 3. Or maybe show and explain different parts of your drawing process Or maybe even search Timelapse drawings shorts, and check out what’s currently going viral. Your drawings are literally so perfect, I think if you change the format of your videos. You will grab attention and people will appreciate your amazing work and skills!!!
I’m gonna be real with you. What you give is what you get. Not how hard you work. Put your audience first. Are you making videos for you or for your audience? The trademark would be finding a way to do both. Advice I can give is right now your art is cool but the music in most of them are hard to sit through. Also the thumbnails could be better.
Just finished watching, great interview! Thank you in particular for never interrupting the guest. (It's so infuriating when hosts do that...) Definitely gonna peruse your back catalogue!
I spent 2 hours writing notes about this video. There is so much to learn in this talk. I'm going to use what I learned in future videos. Thank you Jay!
@@jay It shows! I love how you tested out his main points into some pithy phrases, then dropped them in over the convo just when we needed. It was like having an excellent note taker on auto-pilot :D
I spend like 20-30 hours on the idea, and 4-10 hours on production. I’m on TH-cam for 15+ years and typically get 1k views per video in its first week.

One question I’d like Paddy to answer is how quickly to replace your initial thumbnail with your second sketch because the analytics look suboptimal. Within 1 hour? 2-3? Days?
Ideas are truly the most important thing. I wake up day dreaming of my next idea. My thing is just practicing how to package the idea better cause I now don’t believe in dead channels/accounts because I had one on TikTok & TH-cam where I hadn’t post in years and when I do did it was receive pretty well for a beginner😅
As a beginner and learner of TH-cam, I really found your videos (interviews) very useful. Thanks for the hard work, and keep going! So, I subscribed to ensure that I don't miss anything. 😅

I know you may say you don t need but actually I don t have something else to do , so why not not to post a quality video every day. Since I am in coking niche the only thing to do to increase my AVD from 50-65 % per video to go up to 60-70% there are 2 ways : 1 to invest in the short future maybe investing In a new kitchen and more beautiful and the 2nd is not in my hand Mr beast in one video said ,,,, if your views liked a video of yours chances will be much higher that your next CTR to be higher because they will be clicking ... so with other words to wait that youtube snowball to start giving effects my only question is do you think my channel will blow up again ? is just matter of time ? or I am missing any last piece of puzzle?
Super interesting chat! Just to give a first-time viewer's perspective though, I found it quite distracting/uncomfortable that Jay was looking straight into the camera the entire time 😅 I'm more used to the side-on view in these kinds of interviews
Hi Jay. Thanks as always for a good video. Being neurodivergent, the trend with scene shifts every 5-10 seconds, makes me feel overwhelmed and exhausted. Don't get me wrong, the style of MrBeast is very entertaining and retention wise, they score big. My issue with this kind of video making is, that i feel entertained, but not educated. I am left with a feeling like binge watching series without a conclusion, but good for waisting time. I know they can't all be trainers, but i miss purpose sometimes 🙂
Hey man really love the channel. Super insightful interviews. As a new youtuber, I come here for some knowledge. Not stupid TH-cam "gurus" all regurgitating the same talking points every week.
Thats funny yesterday I was getting ready to publish a video when I thought the thumbnail was to good so I came up with an IDEA to make a cool rodeo video instead of the same ole thing. This video shows me I’m thinking right!! Thanks great video!!!!
6:00 I feel like we have Paddy to blame for MrBeast's recent huge shift into tired old "proven" video concepts...😅 for someone who claims to be idea-focused, it's depressing to hear his primary idea-related advice be basically "see what's already been done and copy that." I think there's beauty to be found in refusing to take Paddy's advice, at least on this particular point, even if there's money to be found in following it.
