I wish I had watched this video before starting my own faceless TH-cam channel! These tips are so helpful and would have saved me so much time and trial-and-error. Thank you for sharing your wisdom and experience, it's never too late to learn and improve as a content creator (I have also discovered that using a bit of Fame- ster has leveled up my channel even more). Keep up the great work, your channel is one of the best for sure!
As someone who worked in start-ups his whole life, there's a lot of overlap that I translated to my channel. 5 year runway. Deep research. Establishing a value-prop. Fast evolution. I've said to a lot of people that getting good at building a TH-cam channel sets you up very well for managing a business in general. This is really a gem of a video and I hope new creatives watch this for the head start it's offering. Great work guys. ☕
Then some kid posts a few videos of nothing but sipping water and makes a million bucks. "Watch me say potato 1,000,000 times!" Business plans... Riiiight.
This is the first of these kinds of videos that actually was helpful and provided actionable steps outside of “be creative, have a niche, and be consistent.” So glad I clicked. Thank you!
One of the best sources of TH-cam knowledge. It's crazy how these dudes are growing by telling others how to grow. Very well done. Mutual growth is always great.
This is not a video about being a youtuber, it's how to start a sustainble career/ business Great video btw - this video in a nut shell - Find your interest, align with the market wants (Longer term career sustainability) - Be different and specialise (Why the market will want to pick you than another) - Test small (Wasting time, effort, money and brain energy is certain - keep this to the minimum) - Find a MVP - minimal value product (Develop an edge with mininal resources) - Use the sciencetic method (Can't get it right the first time, get feedback quick, amend, test again till desired result) - Be consistent with the basics and do it well (Advance tech is just many basics clumped together, it's the basics that need to be done right to get the outcome) I appreciate the effort you put into these videos, it's interesting to hear about the process on how this is applied in the youtube space 🥰
Meanwhile my dream is to become your editor. I saw the YT video of the guy who did that one video pretending he didn't know how to edit then edited for you. I forget his name, you're in the same discord :)
This is SO good, thank you. I'm 7 months into my YT journey and doing Ali Abdaal's PTYA course, in which he mentions your channel. Fortunately THIS video was your "welcome" video and it mirror's exactly what to many others have said. Do your RESEARCH! It has changed my course. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
I hired a mentor, went through 5 months of setting up and prepping, and released in April, and I'm seeing decent growth in subs, views, and engagement. Most of all, the quality has bumped up ridiculously. Stay Uncommon!
The other day I was watching a video about content creation and they said you need to study the video/post/title etc of stuff you like. No one explained what to study. Thank you for the clarity.
I mean it’s like picking a niche, every TH-camr tells you to do until you have an audience that’s loyal for you to branch off from your niche. I myself don’t follow this structure.
So, for sure this video is a certified banger, so good and thank you so much for all this information given through those 46min. I can clearly identify to it and for the first time, I'm watching this kind of video while having a community of 20k followers on insta, and a fast growing channel, to my perspective at least, all that acquired in 3 months. I completely agree with "allow the network to come to you" as it's exactly what's currently happening to me with my channel Un Pourcent. One interrogation I've having now is about the frequency of posting vs innovating content vs depth of talks on my podcast vs time needed to edit and release content. Let me explain : First videos were 40min each maximum and took around 2 hours to edit, do the cuts and stuff. Problem was that 40min is super short when speaking about autism, getting in the confidence with the person and go super deep. That length was ideal though to interview up to 5 people on the same day. But now I'm releasing videos of 50min to 2 hours long, and that takes now a lot more time. And as my job pays me very bad, I need extra money so I work as a freelance, study and grow my channel at the same time.. Result : The deeper I go to add value to my podcast with deep topics that are truly appreciated by the community, the longer it takes to edit, the less consistant I can be, from 1 video/week to 1 video/2-3 weeks. It also has an impact on posts frequency on Insta and Tiktok, where so far the audience remains luckily with the same engagement so far but I don't know how it will evolve on long term. Steve job said "Innovate or die". So I want to innovate by proposing new formats with some more mainstream concepts. But that also takes time and it's a road to burn out if I do that kind of productions now. Plus, these videos will be a new workflow and therefore, it will take even longer on the first episodes lol. Your video was absolutely awesome to put words on how to grow/start your channel and I needed to watch it. Now my challenge is how to keep that value my podcast is bringing to the community of "invisible" autistics, while innovate new formats and all that while keeping the consistency of posting. The game could change soon though, as I'll be opening a new forum with a monthly subscription of 5 USD. If the mass subscribes to it, then I won't need my job anymore, but with 20k subscribers, I doubt it will take off so quick. What would you do if you were in my situation ? Would you try to push toward innovating new concepts to "not die" and keep the audience growing - despite less frequency of posting, or would you stick to the interview format ? Thanks so much for your channel, been following you for a few years now, when you were still shooting in your car. Bon travail ;)
Also important to mention this is an ongoing process. As someone with an existing TH-cam channel, one constantly needs to adapt and change. That’s where I’m at now.
This is an amazing video. I took 7 pages of notes. I have tried to start a TH-cam career a few times. The first time was less then a year after TH-cam was launched. This video has inspired me to try again. Thank you!!

100% true. I LOVE photography and wanted so badly to be a professional architectural landscape photographer, however it never seemed like something attainable and I wanted to make money from photography NOW, because I truly loved taking photos and the editing process. So instead I starting doing family portrait photography and wedding photography, which paid the bills, but was so not satisfying for me. People just aren't what I loved photographing. Moral of the story: simply being in the industry you love won't cut it unless you're doing something you love and are passionate about (or are at least on the path of getting there).

As a noobie content creator starting this year, you two have been two guiding lights in an otherwise overwhelming ocean of strategies, tips and how-tos. I call you two my youtube fathers. Plz don't be weirded out. K thanks bye. 👋
It’s just so important for anyone who’s running any type of business, to first and foremost conduct proper research. Regardless, you’re going to fail along the way, no matter what level you’re playing at. But you can avoid years of wasted time by very closely studying creators of channels such as this exact one, who’ve put in so many years to learn the ins & outs of this specific business.
Hey Colin and Samir, cooking creator here. I've had dozens and dozens of conversations with other cooking channels. I'm happy to discuss any and all insights we have seen. The cooking landscape has changed drastically.
you should cold dm him. one of his recent videos talks about cold outreach and how to do it properly. give it a watch and use the same formula to dm them and ask for a feature. good luck!
@@JessicaDante yeah but the most go-to advice in TH-cam education is ctr related crap. You tube and the algorithms of other platforms only care about if you can retain viewers.
@@benjaminfairbourne But if you want to retain viewers you have to first get them to click, hence why it's so important to talk about the packaging of the video. Would you click on a video that has the title "My first minecraft world" and a thumbnail that looks auto generated by youtube? Or would you rather click on a video titled something like "I survived 100 days in Hardcore Minecraft" with a thumbnail that has the skin of the creator looking toward the camera and 100 days in a bold font or something? The more viewers who click, the more viewers you *can* retain.
This video has so much valuable information that I had to open up my notes and jot down everything you guys said. I can't recall the last time I did that for another video. Awesome work, you gained a new TH-cam and email subscriber👏🏻💯
The strange thing about social media is that you can put a lot of effort into making quality videos and staying consistent, yet see little to no results. I’m not upset about the 5 subscribers I have, since I do it mostly for fun and to share value with viewers, but it’s a bit frustrating when others put 10x less effort into their content and still get 100x more views and subsribers. It’s a weird space (just like the world in general). Anyway, don’t let it get to you-just keep going and don’t give up!
Hey Colin and Samir, thank you for all the golden nuggets that you shared. I will definitely implement that 100 title/ideas document. Thank you once again.
Only problem is TH-cam is the ultimate jury and executioner of whether or not your channel will be deleted without warning. Any intellectual property you post on here is immediately not yours anymore.
Did you honestly take that number at face value-no grain of salt or digging or anything? If you look it up, you'll see it's from an influencer marketing agency, Izea. See the conflict of interest? The study also says 26% of social media users consider themselves "influencers". The "study" asked 1200 social media users in the US. Consider, now, that Izea is targeted towards influencers. Hence, this survey most definitely skewed towards "influencers". Considering this, and that many people online like to lie in polls, these numbers are not weird.-It's like asking a room full of people at an influencer conference if they consider themselves influencers. I am shocked sometimes at how incompetently or misleadingly carried out studies like these are - and at how many people take them at face value.
@@philip2205 I think you need to take this up with the creator of this video my guy. I didn't post the number, I just reacted to it. I've got no skin in this particular game so I'm not going to waste my time doing research on it that you did on it as I value other things more. Even if the number is 26% or even 10%, I still find that depressing.
@@aaronhall5715they said creators not influencers… Just because you have an idea of an influencer being x in your mind doesn’t mean it isn’t a valid career path. Say you’re a music producer helping other producers turn their passion into their hobby. Or you’re a gym creator doing coaching, is that really that crazy? It’s just a personal trainer digitalised… you wouldn’t have an issue if someone said they wanted to build a business, but then they talk about it online and help others and suddenly it’s depressing? See what I’m getting at here? You need to expand the way you look at creators, they’re the modern day teachers at scale, just it’s a more modular online education since people are realising college may not be for them more and more
Absolutely! I have heard stories of people who started with little or no knowledge but managed to emerge victorious thanks to Ana Graciela Blackwelder.
Just wanted to thank y’all for sharing your professional/insider knowledge with your viewers for free. As someone who remembers how limited high-quality info used to be, it’s truly awesome that this has become a trend in recent years.
I already have hundreds of ideas for videos. Assuming I can get my health in order, nothing can stop me from doing videos long term, whether it's profitable or not. I took notes while watching and will be adding it to my years long research hoard. This video discussed many aspects I have already thought about, but in much more actionable ways. I cannot thank you both enough!
I am so here for the longer form content at 20-30 min. being standard! People who are sitting down to watch TH-cam on their tvs already expect that length of entertainment, if not longer sometimes. Such a thoughtful video, thanks guys!
That insight in the end is valuable… once you work hard and go through the steps, etc … they will come to you (similar thought to “be so good they cannot ignore you”) 😊 - Thank you for this masterclass.
Wow, you guys really gave me amazing insights. I think I been waiting for this video all these years to understand the formula to 'niching'. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge(s)! 🙏
I was skeptical, as always when YT masters share, but from the Super Mario analogy on I was hooked! This is brilliant stuff! You guy's could've made a fortune with this. Thanks for offering it up for free!
You guys are like the cheerleaders of every Creator!!! I love your channel and have rewatched so many of your videos because they're so valuable. Thank you for doing what you do and keep inspiring us creators!
-Finally a video that REALLY resonates. Wil rewatch 5-10 times -I'm STILL struggling to figure out my niche before starting, and I FINALLY feel a little validated by this video where they say I need to have 100 content ideas so that I can make 52 videos in a year (my goal would be 100 videos in 52 weeks). But I'm grinding, getting closer!
This was a very informative and engaging view - and I took many notes! I intent to implement them all - Starting from step 1 - THANK YOU FOR THE GREAT TIPS AND INSIGHTS!
im a regular viewer but gosh this video had so much value. please do more videos like this. I would love a series where you go in depth education into each of these topics like a 40min video on thumbnail, 40 min video on ideation, etc. I think those videos would have great cpms for you guys. alex hormozi is doing in depth education style video series on business topics like sales marketing etc and you guys could do a more niche version of that like youtube business and separate it into different topics such as editing, filming, thumbnail, title, ideation etc
Solid episode overall, but a correction on CTR: Do NOT take CTR at face value! It is an extremely context dependant variable. What a 'good' CTR is depends so much on your niche, supply and demand for the type of videos you make, how long after upload you look at CTR, which traffic source impressions & views come from, how broad your impressions are and much more... Getting hung up on a specific CTR is nothing but a big distraction from the things that actually matter. Once you gain experience on your own channel it can be useful to judge whether you should try new packaging, but only if seen in the right context. Such as comparing it at number of impressions rather than time since upload & and comparing within the same traffic source.
man i might need to watch this video again and again
so many fundamentals here
For sure, I would suggest to start with shorts, that's what I'm currently doing. From there I go to long-form-content.
I am the same mate!
Just watched it twice in two days.

You guys are always dropping the best content! Your knowledge is appreciated 🫡
This video was so good I had to get a notepad and pen, about to implement all this advice!🔥
As a noobie content creator starting this year, you two have been two guiding lights in an otherwise overwhelming ocean of strategies, tips and how-tos.
I call you two my youtube fathers. Plz don't be weirded out. K thanks bye. 👋
🤣🤣🤣 over 1k subs within your first year is amazing! My son and I are still working on our first 100 subs. Keep up the momentum!
Upvoting this
i'm interested to hear your opinion on how the cooking landscape has changed on social media
you should cold dm him. one of his recent videos talks about cold outreach and how to do it properly. give it a watch and use the same formula to dm them and ask for a feature. good luck!
Those metrics are so helpful. I'm not hitting any of them, at all, but it's something clear to strive for.
14 seconds in and ive seen enough. this is the greatest video ever posted on the internet
suspicious bush is balanced 😂
I agree. :)
I’m 6 minutes into this video and I already feel inspired, encouraged and understood! THANK YOU ❤
11:27 my entire phone is screenshot of thumbnails, but the TH-cam autoplay is killing the experience of making such screenshots
thank you guys for taking time to teach us and inspire/motivate us new creators!!
audience retention and sharable content is way more important than ctr. I wish people didnt talk about thumbnails and titles so much.
You can’t get them sharing or retain them on the video if you haven’t gotten them to click and start watching
@@benjaminfairbourne I know what you mean, but if they don't click they don't watch
How can you let them watch????
I always feel satisfied when I watch you guys...
Y'all provide the most value per second watched on all of TH-cam.
Absolute gold gentleman. Thank you for your contribution to the community!
Let's be honest, Samir's hair is the star of the show.
🤣🤣🤣🤣
fr
This video has so much valuable information that I had to open up my notes and jot down everything you guys said. I can't recall the last time I did that for another video. Awesome work, you gained a new TH-cam and email subscriber👏🏻💯
0:51 Lol at the Price is Right music 😂
Lol
The amount of value in the video is ridiculous. Thanks chaps 👏🏼
I don't watch ANY TV shows or movies, I do however watch TH-cam daily, probably too much😅
This was a masterclass...I watched this video twice and took tons of notes. Thanks Colin and Samir for sharing your insights and wisdom!!!
No MrBeast comment?
Great work keep up really enjoy you flow and style in this video and love how the TH-cam community is showing you so much love
“If they don’t click, they don’t watch”
That statement is just so powerful
Uhk
The strange thing about social media is that you can put a lot of effort into making quality videos and staying consistent, yet see little to no results. I’m not upset about the 5 subscribers I have, since I do it mostly for fun and to share value with viewers, but it’s a bit frustrating when others put 10x less effort into their content and still get 100x more views and subsribers. It’s a weird space (just like the world in general). Anyway, don’t let it get to you-just keep going and don’t give up!
interview sticks PLEASE
Hey Colin and Samir, thank you for all the golden nuggets that you shared. I will definitely implement that 100 title/ideas document. Thank you once again.
Only problem is TH-cam is the ultimate jury and executioner of whether or not your channel will be deleted without warning. Any intellectual property you post on here is immediately not yours anymore.
The right video at the right time ❤ thank you guys for making this 😊
This is literally the best video you’ve ever made I can’t believe it doesn’t have more views
This comment might not get seen and y’all already have a video in the works for sure but uh… Mr Beast?????
I don't know if TH-cam needs any more videos about mr beast
There’s no way this only got 90k views on the first week. There must be some real gold in here. Colin and Samir never disappoint
54% of adults wanting to be influencers is utterly depressing
No way that's accurate
@@fpstony I hope to god not.
You need to expand the way you look at creators, they’re the modern day teachers at scale, just it’s a more modular online education since people are realising college may not be for them more and more
The best video about youtube knowledge ever! You do not need more.
Hallelujah!!! I’m favored and blessed with $60,000 every week! Now I can afford anything and also support the work of God and the church.
Oh really? Tell me more!,how do you make so much monthly? I’m interested.
This is what Ana Graciela Blackwelder does, she has changed my life.
After raising up to 60k trading with her, I bought a new house and car here in the US and also paid for my son’s (Oscar) surgery. Glory to God.shalom.
I know Ana Graciela Blackwelder, and I have also had success...
Absolutely! I have heard stories of people who started with little or no knowledge but managed to emerge victorious thanks to Ana Graciela Blackwelder.
Massive value from Colin and Samir! Thanks a lot, gonna use them!
Howareyoufeelingaboutmrbeast?
This was incredibly helpful. Thank you for taking the time!
Are You guys gonna talk about the beast allegations by dog pack, or are you gonna keep glazing and riding Mr beast like you have been
Just wanted to thank y’all for sharing your professional/insider knowledge with your viewers for free. As someone who remembers how limited high-quality info used to be, it’s truly awesome that this has become a trend in recent years.
Thank you very much for the great content guys. I watched the whole episode, took notes and will take action.
Informative TH-cam videos like this are like reading an awesome book, which provides immense value.
I love that you two have been friends and collaborating for over a decade. Great video and thanks for all the insights and the clear framework ❤
Such solid info ‼️👏🙏
This is extremely condensed and masterful content, gonna follow the framework for our channel. thanks guys!!
I am so here for the longer form content at 20-30 min. being standard! People who are sitting down to watch TH-cam on their tvs already expect that length of entertainment, if not longer sometimes. Such a thoughtful video, thanks guys!
This was so informative and educating. I’m glad I for your channel, thank you so much. I’m definitely staying glued to this channel
I've been grinding for a new show right now. Thanks for the tip and motivation, Colin and Samir!
"Write 5 Ideas Down" is a really good tip. I generally don't write down any of my ideas, but this is a good sign to change that. Thanks!
-Finally a video that REALLY resonates. Wil rewatch 5-10 times
-I'm STILL struggling to figure out my niche before starting, and I FINALLY feel a little validated by this video where they say I need to have 100 content ideas so that I can make 52 videos in a year (my goal would be 100 videos in 52 weeks).
But I'm grinding, getting closer!
It’s awesome to have you guys talk about it 😉 awesome 🙌
I think you would really enjoy Aprilynne Alter's videos. She has just that.
Solid episode overall, but a correction on CTR:
Do NOT take CTR at face value!
