Just a tip from someone whose been to Thailand 6 times, Grab app is sooo much better than trying to hail down random taxis or tuktuks. It's the Uber of Thailand. I've had so many issues with Taxis, but zero with Grab. Because you select the pickup and drop off location on the map ahead of time you don't have to deal with them refusing to take you, or refusing to put the meter on etc. It's a million times cheaper too. Edit: Bolt too! highly recommended :)
I can only second this! Went to Thailand for the first time last year and Grab helped me A BUNCH. There's a translation option in the chat with the driver too, that enables you to communicate - say in case you're pickup location is a bit unclear - even if you don't speak Thai. If you're adventurous you could even call for a scooter to come and take you along as a pillion rider. XD
As I am Thai I agree with this comment Thai taxi is bad side of Bangkok if you raddom them The best choice for call taxi from many application , Grab taxi , Line Man , CABB , Bolt , Bonku , Let's try it.

As a Thai and a Bangkok citizen myself, I kinda understand why the taxi refused to take u there. Because where you are and the time to get there.
