This is litterally my DREAM fixer upper🥺, I love the original kitchen cubbords and counters so much.
for an authentic japanese house full of junk the musics quite hey mambo italiano lol but werd. lol
Save that old green TV for Chris's Studio retro tech display !!!
Wasn't this the house with all the free alcohol in the "kitchen-floor-cubby"? Idk what to call those things as I'm an USAian and we really do not have a word for those unique, handy storage places as they aren't a "thing" in this country.
Should give that old newspaper to Aki or Chris for their retro rooms.
I love how Sharla was like, “money!” and Ushka was like, “dead body!”. Lmao! And on top of that they like stationery. Love them!
That saw you found is called a "Japansäge" or Japan saw in German. It's actually a really popular tool to use not only in the garden but also for building things! What a great find!
There are collectors who would love that. It looks like besides some rust it's in pretty good shape.
Keep the saw-collectable and works really well. Can use it to repair the missing wood pieces on the broken screen. Have one from 1963 when we lived in Japan.
My friend is a carpenter and says that double edged pull saw is called Ryoba or 両刃. It's one of the most widely used traditional Japanese carpentry tools.
Yeah those "Fancy Rabbit" painted plates and stuff could be worth A LOT of money depending... Looks like they were well cared for, so could be collectors items. My family have found lots of those sorts of dishes in our thrift stores and about half turn out to be actually quite valuable. In Japan, that may be even more likely - just make sure you check markets OUTSIDE of Japan, as sometimes these things are more common in Japan (as people take such good care there).
got curious and googled it to find them being resold for ¥400😂 the miso soup bowls seem nice but not special either, I agree both are great condition tho
It's especially fun because we got to experience it without having to touch anything.
Loved Sharla's "hang on" as she dipped into the recesses of her brain to find the word "cooler," love multilingualness
Haha took a minute but I found it😂😅
@@sharlainjapan haha, it was actually impressive!
idk why this video made me emotional. this was someone's life. to see what they collected and what they thought were treasures. I'm glad you went through it and ended up keeping a lot, so it didn't just end up in the garbage.
I feel exactly the same. Although we don't know the story behind the previous owners or why the house went up for sale, I wouldn't have been able to go through someone's old house with that kind of enthusiasm. I wonder why they left these things. Was it really garbage? Especially seeing things unused that has been kept for a long time really breaks my heart.
Same! I kept thinking, what kind of person lived here, what kind of life did they have, what is the story behind each of these items? It's a strange feeling.
Seeing the eye glasses left behind was what made me shed tears - maybe they were elderly who could no longer stay in their home - it looks like a lot of stuff somebody cherished dearly.
@@helenlecornu1651 seeing the little Earthquake/Disaster Kit got me. I'm glad it wasn't used, but I can imagine them going out and buying that canned bread, putting it in the basket in preparation, because they were planning on staying at that place for a long time. it was their home.
@@Patronulum yes and I wouldn't been so keen to see if there's money in everything. but I don't hold it against them. maybe they just didn't think about it in the moment. but I hope in hindsight, they're like "I'm grateful to the previous owner" for the house, for the items, where ever the previous owner might be.
Have we ever been formally introduced to Ushka, how long she's lived in Japan, her background, etc? Maybe I'm not caught up on the Sharla lore...
We met 4 years ago during vlogmas! If you go back and watch that episode it’ll prob make a lot more sense haha
Yes, I also want to know Ushka's story , if she's comfortable sharing it
yes she was, forgot which video tho
could you link the video. please .❤
She seems very energetic and with a very positive attitude
Honestly i admire your and Ushka's courage to look into every bag and every cupboard. I would be so scared to find tons of bugs/dead rats or something!
As someone from NZ its so refreshing to see/hear Ushka. Especially her love of DIY and "we can do something with that" attitude.
What I've learned from this video:
Everything for Ushka has dual use - whatever it's supposed to be used for, or a murder implement.
Sharla is looking for money in the couch cushions.
I also get unreasonably excited about nice bowls and plates.
Happy vlogmas, Sharla! Thank you for sharing your life with us as usual and I can't wait to see the reno get underway!
I just love how Ushka is always smiling. She brings such positive energy to the videos. I love you as a duo, honestly. Excited to follow this project as always! :D
“What would you use that for? Cutting away at plants?”
“Or people.”
And that’s why Ushka is my favorite of Sharla’s friends.
Chris better behave!
That was a cane knife, or cane machete, I think, not entirely sure. Never seen a serrated one like that
@@carrot1977 it was a Japanese pull saw, it's for cutting wood, like for woodworking, not for like cutting trees and what not outside
@@carrot1977 it's actually a ryoba, a Japanese pull saw! They're really great for woodworking because it cuts well both cross-grain and with the grain!
It's a Japanese pull saw
Congrats on the house.
I couldn´t help searching for the vases.
The shiny vase at 12:35 is a Iridescent Kurata Glass Vase, can possibly be worth around 12.000 yen.
The mirror vanity with drawers is actually around the same value point.
Note to self, never make Ushka upset XD She sees so many possibilities for weapons around her!
I'm super excited to see ya'll working on this house! It is my favorite of all the ones we've seen you look at, and I feel like the finished result is going to be amazing. The pair of you are so creative when it comes to this kind of thing!
My favorite part of this video is Sharla looking for money and Ushka looking for m¥rder weapons! Everyone has their interest lol !
Ushka is so funny in this, also the music makes me giggle
The Japanese saw and plane are very nice. The plane especially is untouched. The saw has rusted a bit because it was unused. Wonderful tools
I love that you chose the slightly cursed garbage house 😂 Was not expecting that result hahaha
It has a certain charm😂😂
Congrats on the purchase!!! It's going to be a wild ride, you guys should make a series around renovations and the choices you go with while doing the house reno, can't wait to book a few days when you are done! Got it through good ol' cold cash or a loan? I'll be there around march to do some house hunting, hope I can bag one.
Between the flower rug and the flower pictures you can almost decorate a room. The winter picture was also so pretty
OMG!! I don't think it's antique but in the Movie "Memoirs of a Geisha" she had a kit sort-of like that with makeup and hair stuff.... very cool find! If you Google "wooden Japanese Geisha makeup box" you will see some neat ones that are similar and antique!
Congrats on the new place ladies!!!
Yup that's what I thought when I saw it too!
This is so fun! Usually people buy empty properties so this is definitely more interesting to see what people left behind. Glad to see you found some useful bowls for the kitchen. Can’t wait to see the next stage of the renovation 😊
With this though I wonder why so much was left behind. Did they have to move unexpectedly and so left so much behind? Were they moving into a room where they didn't need kitchen items? So many questions...
@@Terahnee i'm wondering the same... I was thinking maybe someone passed away...? I think the amount of stuff left behind is pretty abnormal, especially since there's some pretty sentimental stuff like graduation gifts and signed posters.
That newspaper with the frames has President Carter in the photo visiting on the right side lol maybe that's why she kept it. I would love that pot with the flowers!
That car battery could be worth a few ¥¥¥ to a car collector. Proper petrol heads like their engines to look authentic as possible and an era accurate battery is the cherry on the cake👌🏻 loved the video and all the bits n bobs you found. I was a big fan of the superman tin & poppy patterned Soup bowls 😄😄 #mightbesnakes 🐍 😄😂
This is going to be so fun to watch! So glad you and Ushka found each other. Great team....
Why is this SOOO cool to watch (the two of you going through all the stuff)? Love it! ❤😆📦
Amazed you girls did not wear hazmat suits going through that place !!! Can't wait to see the progress of the reno !!!
I love the idea of some of the old artwork put up around the house!!! It would be so quaint and cute. 😊
Congrats to you and Ushka on the new place! I'm EXCITED to see how it starts to take shape as the second Neko Neko Inn!
When we bought our house same thing! There was some furniture we kept and got a discount for. The curtains that were custom made for the windows was the best.
I wish I could through the house with you guys but I guess we all did in the video. The Kamakura snow art was amazing and I hope you guys frame it. I got so excited seeing the old newspaper. Saw the kanji for the Soviet Union and was excited cause it meant it was old. Can’t wait to see the next adventures of the house!
I love how Ushka is like "THIS HAS BEEN USED FOR DEATH!" Whenever she finds something that remotely could be used as a weapon lol
Going throught all of this stuff was so fun! I love this kind of treasure hunting😊Although I am still very curious about this suspicious underfloor storage in kitchen😅
The saw found in the closet is a Japanese flush cut saw. When there is over hang on wood you can use the blade to bend and cut the extra off to make it in line with what it is attached to.
When Ushka snickered “Oh we definitely made the right choice” 😂 the sheer confidence, I love it!
And Ahhhh I finally caved and jumped on your Sakuraco offer-can’t wait for my box to arrive! :3
Good luck renovating, seems almost like it would be easier to tear it down and rebuild from scratch, but it's cute how positive your attitude is towards the whole process, I'll try to let it rub off on me. I bought a house recently and have had to fix so much stuff, it's a battle!
Came on here to say how lovely it is watching the friendship between Sharla and Ushka, and found comments from other people also simping for Ushka! 😊 #ushkafanclub ❤
You found so many cool things in the house! Cannot believe how much they left that were so nice or unused! Great that you took it all.
Congrats! I was rooting for this house, glad you decided with this one. Best choice, imo 👍 I'm excited to see the renovations you'll do!
Great to see you lovely ladies having so much fun! Been fantastic to see more of Ushka, she has such a sweet smile!
Oh, I'm so glad you went with this one. I loved it too. I loved the postage stamp. ^_^
You could have ink stamps made at each inn for your stamp booklet. That would be fun!!
Congrats friend!
oooooooooooo thank you for taking us along as you go through the random house things!! It was too dusty crusty for sure, but I'm so curious about the old pots/containers under the kitchen counter.... 👀 The old school makeup cabinet and dishes were so fun. Also that little mint tv is freaking adorable... I wonder if it's something like an old UHF/VHF tv? 📺
I'm dying at Sharla forgetting the word for cooler 😂😂 my friend that's been in Japan for 10 years does the same thing and it's hilarious 🤣
Much love from Arizona 💜💜
I'm like of course it's an esky what else would it be (not Kiwi though).
You guys should get that Japanese winter scene frame for the Japanese room kinda as a reminder on what the house was before renovation or to give the room a more homely feel.🤗
Awesome that you got that house, it was my favorite too, and great episode, I was curious to see what was wrapped in each room since I saw the house tour last time 😂
"a better door" for sure - have the hinges on the outside is not safe. I noticed that in the first video too ... need the hinges on the inside!
That was fascinating, a bit sad too, but I'm sure the old owners would be thrilled to know their house was going to be brought back to life, including some of their old treasures
The neighborhood kids voices came through your audio at the exact time you took the painting out and wondered if children lived there. It was gave an eerie vibe lol 8:43
Would be so cool if you displayed the artwork and cool vintage pieces found in the house once you renovate it! :)
We hope to upcycle some of the things we found for sure
the cast iron can be revived. the unused pans/pots are decent too. the rabbit plates are potentially worth something - looks like a collectors thing. all the plates are usable too
So excited for you!
Ive been interested in Japan since i was a kid many years ago, and I really hope if I ever finally get to visit that I can see or stay in one of your properties! Looking forward to seeing what you do with it
Well deserved and mazzies!! I hope the renno and rental goes swimmingly. I say this every time Ushcka is in a vid, she's freaking adorable (please nag her into starting a channel)!
Such an exciting way to start the day, *Sharla & Ushka Vlogmas!*
Congrats on the house purchase!!! 🎉 crazy that you got to keep all the random stuff in the house!
The emergency kit a museum might want it with it being so old. I was laughing ao much at Ushka being obsessed with dead bodies
You two found a Japanese pull saw and an old hand plane... A woodworker once lived there =)
What a treasure trove! 😍 Love that little retro tv. I bet the residents never thought people would enjoy their stuff so much.
Nothing more secure than an outside door with its hinges on the outside!
This was house hunters and storage wars in one episode. I love it!
I love that Sharla was looking for money but Ushka was prepared to uncover a murder 😂
I can't wait to see that street when the sakura blossom! I'm so excited for you!
Crossing my fingers that you'll find money under the floorboards or in the walls once you start renovating XD So excited to see what you two come up with! This was my favorite house of the ones you showed and I'm so excited for Neko Neko Inn version 2!!
Congrats on the house, great choice 👍 Loved this, like you mentioned its almost like the Storage wars show where they dig through stuff.
❤ it. Looking forward to seeing how this one turns out. So many interesting treasures. Previous owners seem to be people who did a little woodworking, a little fishing?, and did a fair amount of cooking. You really do wonder what their life was like. Those miso bowls are lovely, and that shoji is fantastic. Maybe consider Kitote (Norm's shoji) to help in renovating the doors. Ah the "stockpile" of 1 Yen coins 😂 Happy holidays to you and Ushka, and all the best.
Awe I was hoping for the house with a shop but the traditional rooms at this one are gonna be awesome. Can't wait to see the reno!!!
I'm excited to see what this place looks like once it's renovated. I would even watch a series on you fixing it up if you wanted to film that. Watching TokyoLlama fix his minka akiya was great.
If that mint-green CRT doesn't work, I would find someone who can repair it. It is super cool.
Congrats on the new place!! I was worried you'd find something gross in the house while i was eating my lunch LOL 😂 Excited to see the transformation! Also felt a little attacked (/lh) by the "why would they keep a bunch of empty boxes". Sometimes boxes are just really cool 😂
Having cbought a new house recently, that new house feeling is so awesome! Congrats!
Rachel and Jun could use that saw for the tree limbs in their garden.
Please show us the renovation process. What you envision for each room. Wallpaper, paint, flooring etc come Jan 2024.
Treasure hunting in your own house! There’s just so much potential in this place. I can’t wait to see what’s you and Ushka do with if!
I can smell the dust through the screen lol
So happy you can expand Neko Neko Inn! This house looks perfect! The empty tin you found I instantly thought you could use it as a stationary box :) I hope you're keeping the rug I caught a glimpse of in the kitchen, and all the artwork you found. Omg all the vases too! Such good treasures!! The little makeup cabinet is cute, and omg the tv ; A; it would be perfect to play an old console on if it works, like Sega Megadrive, or SNES or something :) I bet so much of it would be good for Chris' studio as well. And all the crockery, and the big pot, so amazing. Someone into vintage styles would 100% want those shoes. It's crazy to me that someone would just chuck it all, when so much is usable, recyclable, or able to be refurbed, glad it was you guys who got it and can maybe make use of a lot of it! :) excited to see how the house turns out!
congrats! I also love your friendship, you two are so happy and have so much fun together! :D excited to see how it turns out and all of the vlogs
First off, it was so fun to watch you two explore. Also the record store bags were the coolest thing in there! Hopefully you kept them - they could make a really cool retro wall collage!
Omg the emergency mochi and I are the same age... lol
Also that piece of art labeled with graduation on the back was pretty! I say wipe its frame down and put it on display!
That box with the mirror the turns into a vanity case. Dates back I think 1950th It a make-up and hairdressing stand, I've seen it in old Japanese paintings manuscripts. Allso a lot of Manga.😅 Do not get rid of it. Keep it or if I'm ever lucky to stay in your hotel. I'll take it😊❤
Omg I’m so excited for you two!!! This was definitely the right place 🎉 congrats 🍾
congratulations on the new house purchase! Super excited for both you and Ushka (she's is super brave, i was like oh no, oh no what's in that bag lol! ) Really enjoyed watching the first vlogmas, can't believe it's Christmas soon...
Don't use that red pan even though it's new. It's the old DuPont nonstick kind with the cancerous crap in it.
We thought it might be! Don't worry it is going in the bin, thanks for letting us know
Happy Vlogmas! I’m glad you went with that house - it seemed a perfect fit with what you were looking for.
Oh my goodness, you guys found some really adorable and nice looking stuff!
Well you got some nice dishes and potential art work for the inn.
Best episode ever. I love not knowing what you’re going to find.
Im glad we're seeing more of Ushka, she seems like a being of pure joy and I love the friendship and business you've built together! I love all your videos but you and Ushka are a vibe
I’m so thrilled you’re doing Vlogmas!! It’s starting to feel a little more like Christmas now ❤
YES!! I love that one too - so much potential is RIGHT! Can't wait to see the results... and visit someday...
Oh no you should always turn the drawers over people tape stuff to the underside of drawers!! Go back and check them all please you might find money!!
That little Toshiba TV is sweet. You should goto a Hard Off and pick up a Nintendo Famicom to hook up to it if it works! It's definitely an era appropriate TV.
what is your relationship? your sense of humour is wonderful
at least you got stuff to use for the house in the house. that is a perk. i hope you remembered to go into the kitchen's underhouse cooler thing that had booze in there. you needed to toss the smelly thing in there.
Many of your older finds are worth some money. The “Eskie” is a nickname for Eskimo coolers. That size was probably a lunch box, and is a great find.
Just wanna add to the Ushka love, she is such a bright and lovely person, I’m always happy to see her in your videos. You both make such a sweet duo!
That TV looks like it should be in Chris' studio. Feel like it would fit in. lol
10/10 content! Edge of my seat the whole time! ❤
Oh, I so hoped you would get this house.
From the ones you've shown on your channel, I think this one is best suited to becoming a holiday home. The size and the traditional details are great.
Please keep/ restore the beautiful wooden flowers on that one door.
And i wanted to see whats in all those boxes too xD
I am so happy you are doing vlogmas again. When I worked ICU during the height of COVID your videos helped keep my spirits up. Especially since I could not see my family at the time. Sending my love
The record shop bags would be amazing framed and hung together!
Could add a record player in the loft with second-hand records and make it a listening room with a bean bag chair ahhhh
Love vlogmas! Now it feels like the festive season has kicked off! Thanks for still creating, your videos are the best ❤
The pot with the glass lid was honestly so cute, I loved it!! It was exciting to watch all the tresure being found ahaha
YOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.... Merry Vlogmas!!!! LET'S GOOO!!!
This was genuinely fun to watch.
That red thing under the loft stairs, I think that's a rack for cassette tapes. Those are really hard to come by! Can get some money for that! Not huge amounts, but that one looks cool.
