I have a pair and really enjoy them. They're fantastic straight out of the Hugo2, but when I plug them to the Cayin HA-1A, fed from the Hugo2, it really adds that extra touch of magic

I listened to a pair of Sennheiser HD660s and found them to be a bit pedestrian. Not at all lively. Bought a pair of Audeze LCD-2 open. Also Graham Slee Solo SRG II Green headphone amplifier, great sound.
I actually found the LCD-2 much too dark and muffled. I prefered the airy, open and crystal clear sound from the HD 660S myself. We all have our own preferences though. :)
These pads have been the standard on the HD series since the 1990s. They are not cheap, they cost about 59 euro to replace. They also give these headphones their distinctive neutral sound signature. Most audiophiles strongly advise against changing to different pads. The Drop pads are not upgrades. Some Dekoni models might be. Surprised this is your first Sennheiser H-series headphone.
I have not really been into headphones I have been all about my main hifi / home cinema system, ironically since starting Pursuit Perfect System I spend more hours a day with headphones on rather than off so I am very much into them now
If you get a chance listen to them on high quality tube amp please do it. Ditch the stock cable its crap. The sennheiser 650 also has the same pads and using any other pad type ruins the sound of the 650/6xx.
Interesting about the pads, I would still like to try the sheepskin and see what that is like UGG boots on my face. What tube amps are you suggesting please?
@@PursuitPerfectSystem Cayin HA 300, Woo Audio WA22 or any good Woo Audio gear. If you don't mind a bit of DIY, OTL tube amps like the Bottlehead Crack. I read good things about the Feliks Audio amps. The Drop upgrade pads are Dekoni pads. You should try them they are comfy. Maybe you like the slightly different sound. I've tried the Elite velour.

@@PursuitPerfectSystem a pair of these with any otl amp and the suggested bottlehead crack with speedball diy amp is a fantastic synergistic combo. Another diy kit tube amp that powers these headphones terrific is a elekit 8200. Allows for some great tube rolling as well. Ditch the stock Chinese preamp tubes that come with it and get some matched gold lion preamp tubes. These headphones scale great with much more expensive dacs and amps. I have had excellent results with centrance dac amps including the hifi m8. Terrifc class a power!
Can't wait for these to arrive. I got some really crappy Sony headphones that need triple A battery's to run and I've been listening to this crud without any triple A's for a long time because I haven't been able to buy any.

@@garthdev Can I ask what cable you would suggest? I'm still very new to headphones and the 6xx is only my second pair of over the ear headphones.
