I own a 996turbo and I agree 100% with this review, it feels so balanced, has tons of power, and most importantly it makes me smile. I just can't stop smiling, whether I am driving or just enjoying looking at it, and I have also used it as a daily driver. And still that smile is always presant when I am around this car, absolutely love it ❤
Bought my 996TT about 6 years ago, thinking the prices would increase.. they have!! A great investment that justified doing some upgrades .. Billet Turbos, Wagner Intercoolers, Kline headers/exhaust/high flow Cats, Cobb Remapping, K&W Variant 3 Coilovers and more. LOVE this Car.
The 996 is the prettiest of the water cooled 911s - it's lines evoking the original car. It also provides an analogue driving experience you can't find in more modern cars, but with modern comforts missing from the older generation. The sweet spot in the 911 lineage.
I love my 996 Turbo, manual coupe of course. But I've just ordered a Cayman GT4 after having a loan of one for an afternoon. Holy shoot. What a car. I don't love the look of the Cayman as much as a 911 but I'm really excited about taking delivery of this beast. It feels every bit as analog as the 996 IMO. Cage, bucket seats, harnesses, carbon ceramic brakes, it's going to be my track toy. Still keeping the 996, I'll never sell her.
I removed and capped my rear wiper and removed the back seats . I had what I believe was the highest mileage car in the world with half the break pads left and original clutch , 116.000 miles. And I saw 100 mph everyday ( but briefly ). The only real problems were the clutch actuator and foam started to blow out the ac vents . Champion Porsche took great care of it
What a great review!👌 Regarding the editing... first off, normally I don't like music in car videos as they usually take away from the sounds we are trying to hear, but in this case, you've done a fantastic job blending the two. Great, upbeat song choices and the sound of the Porsche isn't hindered one bit. For me, this car has always been one I would overlook because of those headlights. Seeing your genuine surprise at how good the car actually is (versus how it looks) makes me want to reconsider my original bias. Looks like the 996 Turbo is a very underrated machine with great value for the performance levels you get. The older I get, the more I want to return to the days where cars had less distractions, like multiple screens, etc. Looking back, this car seems to bridge that gap between modern amenities and simplicity. Well done video as always, sir. I hope you enjoy the rest of your weekend. As far as your question on the GT3 RS, all I can say is, Yes please!👍😎
They are not that bad, because they changed the design on the turbo. The original 996 Carrera headlights aren't exactly pretty. A 911 needs round or oval headlights, which is why the square shape of the LEDs on the newest 911 also suck.
The 996s are awesome, raw and analogue, an all weather drivers car, but they aren't for everyone of course ! The lights are beautiful and are more like the new Ferrari's these days, the designer was way ahead. A fine video indeed thanx.
The 996 Turbo is much loved at my house. It worth mentioning that the 996 turbo has many things that the 959 pioneered, including those rear slots on the bumper. The 996 is the ugly duckling that grows on you until you realize it’s truly a remarkable and beautiful machine. I love the joy you are getting driving it.
I have a 996 turbo, manual, cinnamon brown interior and dark metallic blue. Awesome car, mine is on k16 rather than k24 turbos, but around 450bhp..awesome
In 2001 I had one over the weekend but unfortunately an automatic, which was a disappointment. Now I bought a 996 GT3 CS. What a joy to drive. You don‘t get that analog feeling anymore. I think you are right, the 996 becomes more and more a modern classic, because it ages so well and the Mezger engines are sort of bullet proofed. Cheers from 🇨🇭
Newer turbos are too linear. I like the shove in the back thrill of the 996 turbos--white knuckle speed. The 996 turbo still has over 300 hp on tap before the turbos kick in so it is plenty quick around town. But when the turbos decide to kick in, what a thrill ride.
I used to hate the look but over the years it's grown on me - even the _actual_ fried egg 996.1 version looks right these days. And unlike the others with the round headlights, you actually know which model you're looking at. And it just feels like the headlights give the look more "character". In any case, you can't see the headlights from the inside... or in fact at any other direction than the front! Anyway, I ended up buying the Tiptronic version for daily driving (I live in London... and I don't skip leg day!) and on the occasion when I get to accelerate properly, it still scares me.
This was a great video. Not everyone gets a chance to drive the turbo 996. I haven’t driven one yet. I own a modified 996v2 with more horsepower but not as much as the turbo. I have this car as I am of the camp where I want rear wheel drive, not all wheel drive. So now I just think of ways to increase my 996s hp. I have heard of people disassembling the front wheel drive on turbos. In any case I think the 996 always came with awd. I truly enjoy my 996 and appreciate you explaining the experience. I have subscribed.
Driving around on the country roads close to Munich should be on all petrol heads bucket list. Perfect tarmac, lovely bends and a panarama to die for. Greetings from Prague
I have a 2001 996 Turbo...June 01 build...and it is a freakin' beast when you push it. It's not my daily...but it could be. I love driving it. The passion is real! Thanks for the video! Subbed.
I had one for 16 years and loved the headlights . They looked more modern to me. The rounds were great when I had a few 993’s but the bigger 996 works better with the eggs.
Bought an 04 996TT cab because of this video. I was a bit worried given it’s 20 years old. Brings a smile whenever I’m around it - in or out - like a dream come true. It’s stock and more power than I’ve learned to handle yet!
Great great review ! The 996 turbo was my dream teenager car in 2000's and I still want one so far. Can't wait for your 997.2 GT3 RS review with is my favourite rs of all time (except the special rs 4.0)
Very nice video and intelligent reflections over the 996 TT. A truly Grand Tourer and sledgehammer until very high speeds. My car - previously owned by the King Carl Gustaf of Sweden - always convince me that Porsche made the top of line cars - as the Turbo - a great build quality. Never ever any sign of lack in performance or reliability. Just true confidence in being king of the road. Wort every penny.
whatever the technical specifications, it is still one of the best looking porsches of last 20 years. both front and back. in that regard i would say it is the last good looking turbo even. just my 2 cents ofcourse.
Excellent. Would have liked to see some in car footage of chasing the turbo in the gt3. Would have had its work cut out on the road as there's only 100kg in it and a lot less torque, especially mid revs shove out of bends.
Okay, now you got me. Porsches are really good cars, there is no doubt about it (and know that somebody is writing who already had one and who experienced a terrible motor failure with it (996.2 C2) -> I want one again, but maybe this time the Mezger Turbo :-) ). I have seen another vid from your channel earlier, I like your content. Seems like you are not too far away from where I live (my cars have the "R" on it, no matter which one ;-) ). Go ahead with your good work! Thanks for this vid... which again makes me want one :-)
Awesome review and awesome car , except that interior lol sorry that green is nauseating . It’s just the color . In any other color usually love the 911/986 Boxster interior . Clean and simple ,
Video quality is increasing every time! Well done! Keep up the good work ! Review on spot and of course you are one of only few that actually know HOW to drive a car. So happy to follow you and enjoying your work! I ve driven several 996, I m actually esitating on buying a 996 GT3. Totally agree with your feedback. Oh and of course... can t Wait for your review on the 997 GT3 RS
Very well done video. That mono color interior in any color other than black is an acquired taste. Can you enjoy the GT3 as much as a turbo as a daily or even as an occasional road driver?
Lovely car but I prefer the C4S Same body and suspension with in my opinion better styling with the rear reflector and the turbo is a lovely track engine but on the road you have to hold back at all times while the M96 though still a little overpowered for the road can still be pushed. I went for a C4S driving then back to back and following advise from a turbo owner who switched to a 4S when he did some data logging driving a day on the twistiest and discovered he for the full day never went full throttle as there was never an opportunity.
Tolles Video und eine gute Review des 996 Turbo. Ich mag den Wagen auch und langsam merkt man im Markt, dass die Preise für vernünftige Autos deutlich anziehen. Gerne auch ein Video zum 997 GT3. Abo ist da. ;-)
I always found the 996 a beautiful car. I used to play NFS Hot Pursuit 2 when I was a kid and that was my favorite car. I still dream of driving one even today
I've been watching you grow to become a really good reviewer and content creator since your video on the Mx5 ND 5 years ago (which I had just ordered and was waiting for back then). I really enjoy your style and passion for what you do! Great editing, interesting cars! Keep it up! Greetings from Norway 🇳🇴
Effing love it! Gingerly pulls away at 7:10 and then spins up the rears and gets it sideways seconds later. My buddy has a 997 turbo and I have a 991 GT3 - we drive like this, early on Sunday mornings :-)
Green is not my favorite color, but I have to admit that this porsche looks so cool 😮. The 996 turbo with the gt4 cayman are my dream porsches, currently I have a boxster and a 924 turbo but when I could I will buy the turbo
The other reason, besides the headlights, why the 996 hasn't gotten much love in the past are the well-documented issues with the M96 engine. Luckily, the turbo uses the Mezger engine without the IMS bearing issues.
I love the 997 too but the 996 has grown on me. While I wouldn't say I totally adore the front lights I no longer hate them. I love the rear of the 996, those big taillights - it just all works. And strangley while the interior looks very dated I find it very appealing to have chunky buttons vs modern touch screen capactive touch rubbish.
Why so negative to the 996 at the start? I mean nobody ever hates a 911 turbo! A turbo of any Gen is amazing car🙈 the green is so nice.. it is 20 year old …a classic car now. I have C4S and it is so nice! The “look” of the 996 I think looks better every year … you comparing to GT car that is maybe 4 times the price ! I would take the turbo and have the rest of money for a daily

the 996 turbo is like buttery smooth in every way and also waaaaaay faster than you'd think it would be. absolute magic.

Exactly what a car should do! Beautiful motor and getting better with age in my opinion
I too have a 996 Turbo in Artic Silver, 100K miles, 530 HP, I absolutely love it! It's super fast and dead sexy! The pull at 3-7000 yeah baby!
You just made me wanna get one asap! I am looking for one as we speak...👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
@@brookslucas3400which package did you get on yours? Or what are the upgrades done to yours? If you don't mind...of course!

the 996 is my favorite. one day that market is gonna blow up.
Sssshhhh
The 996 facelift front looks mean. This is something no other 911 do. This is why i like it the most from the modern 911's.
well done! 996 turbo is amazing. my favorite, of course :)
As an owner of a black 996 Turbo, what a unique interior spec! I love it.
What a great review!👌 Regarding the editing... first off, normally I don't like music in car videos as they usually take away from the sounds we are trying to hear, but in this case, you've done a fantastic job blending the two. Thanks man! Really appreciate that 🙏🏻👌🏼 You brought it to the point better than I did in my video! 😂

Every mile is a smile
I really like the lights from the 996! I can't understand the hate, looks a bit special but not bad.
They are not that bad, because they changed the design on the turbo. The original 996 Carrera headlights aren't exactly pretty. A 911 needs round or oval headlights, which is why the square shape of the LEDs on the newest 911 also suck.
The interior colour is ace!
996 lights are better than the round ones on other models, in my opinion. That’s the reason I finally bought a 911 - I discovered the 996.
The 996s are awesome, raw and analogue, an all weather drivers car, but they aren't for everyone of course !
The lights are beautiful and are more like the new Ferrari's these days, the designer was way ahead. A fine video indeed thanx.
996 is a truly awesome car! if you have to choose a true sports car then your pick should always be the Porsche 911 any year!!
the 996 is an awesome 911, the turbo is just another level again!!
Add some modern performance Coil-Overs & sway bars .. drop the ride height a tad ... and the 996TT handling becomes stellar!!
Great vid and review. I have the 996TT and it’s an amazing car to drive. I love the blend of a new yet mechanical feel. Lots of fun.
A+ production quality
A+ music
A+ driving

I have a 996 turbo, manual, cinnamon brown interior and dark metallic blue. Awesome car, mine is on k16 rather than k24 turbos, but around 450bhp..awesome
You said the magic words
" The 996 Feels Special"
👌
I actually prefer the look of that 996 than the 997. The lines are sleeker in some respects.
In 2001 I had one over the weekend but unfortunately an automatic, which was a disappointment.
Now I bought a 996 GT3 CS. What a joy to drive. You don‘t get that analog feeling anymore.

Really enjoyed this video I got myself a 996 turbo s it’s like you said such a underrated car they are a total blast what a car
Purest car channel on yt! Great cinematography and great review. Weiter so!👍
That color combination just made me fall in love immediately. Thanks for the great review, solid 10/10 as always 😍
I love the headlights of the Mark 2 996. I would prefer it to have more substantial hips but it is a fantastic car
Newer turbos are too linear. I like the shove in the back thrill of the 996 turbos--white knuckle speed. The 996 turbo still has over 300 hp on tap before the turbos kick in so it is plenty quick around town. But when the turbos decide to kick in, what a thrill ride.
Man, the turbo anticipation exceeds my expectations every time I press the throttle. You think you’re going fast and then you suddenly disappear.
I used to hate the look but over the years it's grown on me - even the _actual_ fried egg 996.1 version looks right these days. It's history. Full circle. Bizarre but all modern vehicles follow a non linear non smooth asthetic .
Beautiful video on a beautiful car! Great work!
I used to have 2001 996 Turbo. Loved it. Wouldn't say no to another one or a 997 Turbo.
They drive so well

Underrated cars because to their look are the best!

That 997.2 RS tho 😍🤤
I love the 996 turbo. X50 is a great upgrade. I actually like the green interior.

Great car ... it's an icon.. I'm still not crazy about the headlights but, I appreciate the car.
That Green interior 😍
great post - what year is that 996?
whatever the technical specifications, it is still one of the best looking porsches of last 20 years. both front and back. in that regard i would say it is the last good looking turbo even.
just my 2 cents ofcourse.
as much as I enjoyed watching the 996 turbo.... that GT3 RS was a scene stealer every time
I actually didn't feel that way, it's too boy racer for me. Love the subtlety of the 996 turbo.
@@curveofsound exactly!! .. I have a Midnight Blue 996 Turbo .. little kids & dogs are not attracted to it, only adults who know cars.
Can’t say I agree. Nice but too in your face. The 996 is like the more mature, but extremely hot sister you want more than the one your age
Excellent. Would have liked to see some in car footage of chasing the turbo in the gt3. Would have had its work cut out on the road as there's only 100kg in it and a lot less torque, especially mid revs shove out of bends.

I went for a C4S driving then back to back and following advise from a turbo owner who switched to a 4S when he did some data logging driving a day on the twistiest and discovered he for the full day never went full throttle as there was never an opportunity.
great video, awesome driving too!!
really love that black with the green interior its unique af

While the 997 is ok, it will always be held back by its pedestrian round headlights! 😉 996 ftw
