Welcome to Al Muqaddimah. On this channel, I'll be making videos about Islamic History and other history as well but mostly Islamic. This is a new channel so please subscribe if you liked the video and want more like it, also the bell icon to get notifications but you know that already. Now, let me introduce myself. My name is Syawish A Rehman and I'm from Pakistan. I'm a Sunni Muslim, telling you this because well, you know, so that my faith is clear. On a spectrum with Religion on the Right and Atheism on the left, I'm somewhere left of the Center. I am not very practicing of my faith but as a history enthusiast, I really love Islamic History and Culture.
I realized that there aren't many videos that go much into detail about Islamic History online. Even Crash Course has like three videos in total on Islamic Civilization. Most Muslims even don't know Islamic History like What happened to the Abbasids? Who were the Seljuqs? Where did House of Wisdom go? All these questions will slowly be answered.
These videos aren't from a religious point of view, these will be from a very Liberal point of view. I'm a Muslim but I don't let my faith interfere with my work so if you're easily offended by learning the truth, I think you shouldn't watch these videos.
The additional facts in my video (the ones that appear on those scrolls and are too fast to read) will also be in the description so you can check them here .
1) The word, Allah, is a deformed way of saying Al-Illah, which means THE God, with a capital G.
2) Allah was considered the higher God and couldn’t be reached directly. You had to ask lower gods to forward your requests.
3) On a mosaic in a Greek Orthodox monastery located in Saidnaya, Syria, Mary can be seen holding a tablet with Arabic written on it.

Arabia was very well known to Rome and Persia - Yemen had long been known for the incense Trade and the commodities that it produced
Rome had even called Yemen, 'Arabia Felix' or Arabia the Happy and coveted it's wealth.
The Romans did try to conquer it and they sent troops from Egypt and Syria, but they got lost in the Desert and perished.
Persia actually DID conquer Yemen and it was part of the Persian Empire for decades, if not centuries.
And Yemen and Ethiopia were part of the same kingdom at times.
Only the Desert region, 'The Empty Quarter', which was mysterious and deadly, remained unconquered.

Always was interested in middle eastern history due it not being in my school's curriculum (the most we really got into it was in AP world History). I look forward to seeing more videos
I do agree that Islamic history is really ignored. Even when you search for books you find books about modern Islam and the ISIS "caliphate" and all that stuff more than the actual good part of history.

So not exactly, but each teacher is going to be different so maybe. The most warning I'll give is that for my school we had to take a lot of notes from the book.

The prophet Muhammad slaughtered them because they deserved it and I guarantee that you would do the same. They attacked Muslims, harassed a Muslim lady by ripping her clothes off (making her naked in a market), killed a Muslim sahabi (the equivalent of a disciple) who defended her, allied an enemy of Islam (who brutally killed and harassed Muslims in Mecca for years and they were still doing it during the Battle of the Trench). They violated the treaty they made years before the Battle of the Trench. The Prophet was angered by these acts but allowed them until they found out that all 300 of those Jews were planning to assassinate him. I told you the truth but you can continue to reject it to suit your own agenda but don’t tell people what happened without telling them what they did

I'm not a Muslim. But I do love learning about World Religions. Usually, I find channels dedicated to teaching others the histories of Abrahamic religion, and Asiatic religions.
But I rarely come across a channel like this, dedicated to Islamic history alone.
This is one of the best channels out there. It is so detailed and colorful.

Great video, dude. I like how you show the good and the bad parts of this period in history. Too many people want to either demonize or glorify one side or another. I love how you stick to the facts and inject some humor.
I've always found that Islamic history especially has been made too black and white. Everyone is either saint or satan and I really wanna change that.

I can’t think of pre islamic era without thinking of poetry, the arabs Excelled the poetry and referred to themselves as the tongue of arabs, they were good in trade, Livestock grazing, and Physiognomy and Astrology , people were brave and had many ego , also they had unbelievably hospitality and they were with good manners like ( hospitality - bravery - Eloquence etc..) and there was amazing history and love story for people literally died because of love , the pre islamic era and islamic era history is so rich but also hard to translate

The map wasn't accurate, Sassanides controlled all of Eastern Arabia all the way to Yemen. Also he didn't mention a crucial episode which shaked all of Arabia, arab Jews of Yemen and their king burned an entire Christian city, killing for religion was strange, Ethiopians took vengeance and invaded and occupied Yemen to save Christians and punish jews, that occupation had a deep consequences on Arabia.

Mecca sounds a lot like Vaes Dothrak, the holy city of the Dothraki from Game of Thrones. It was also made illegal to shed blood in the city punishable by death. Plus its also an important hot spot for trade and commerce as shown in the first book and the Dothraki had a tradition of importing statues of gods from foreign lands into the city. Seems like GRRM took inspiration from Mecca when creating Vaes Dothrak.

So glad to hear history like this from someone living in Pakistan, who knows Muslim traditions, and not from another American like myself. So, I wanted to give you a reference to the Trinity in the Old Testament, so that you will see, that this is not a later evolution or a Christian development, but in fact is quite an Older Testament bible doctrine.
#1. God has revealed Himself to be humble, he humbles Himself to check in on heaven, then humbles Himself even further by going down to "behold" or to, check in on Earth]. God is not proud, as in the Palms below:

In this verse below, God the Heavenly Father is giving Isaiah the prophecy, speaking about Jesus, the preexisting Word of God and also, Jesus, as His servant bringing justice to all nations, which only God judges the whole world or all nations.

Let us unpack this verse of scripture:
Here, God the Father is speaking about Jesus as His servant in whom He is well pleased. therefore, the trinity is seen again:
a. “whom I “uphold, speaker the “ I “ is God the Father.
b. The “My Servant, is the Word of God, and Jesus, who always was, and who is, and who is to come…
c. “My Spirit” is God the Holy Spirit
Therefore, we have The Father, The Word, who is the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Again, we see all three spoken of in one verse, doing different things but acting in unison, One sends, one Humbles Himself to come to the Earth, One accompanies The Servant on The Servant’s Earthly Ministry. This is God’s own 1st hand revelation of Himself, and we follow His self-description and teach only what He reveals Himself to be our doctrine of how we understand Him.
Jesus, the Word of God, is equal to God the Father, as is the Holy Spirit, but Jesus, humbles Himself to come to Earth as a man, and Servant of God the Father, confirming this is Jesus statement,

Explanation: During Jesus ministry on Earth, He took off His Godlike Glory, and humbled Himself under the Father; as a human, but then, after the work of salvation by giving His life for ours to be our savior, was done, as a human, Jesus had this command from the Father:

God’s glory is to God alone, this is how we know that God’s glory is shared with Jesus within the unique Trinity, therefore, Jesus is a party to that glory:

God the Father said:

After Jesus is resurrected He is raised back to the same Glory, for, Jesus does not ask for another glory or a new glory, but the Glory which He already had from the beginning in the shared Glory and equality with God and His glory with the Father, and with His Holy Spirit share as one Glory of God, that He enjoyed with God before anything existed.
Therefore, after the work was done Jesus expected to return to His former position with God:

This is how Jesus was able to ask of the Father His glory which he had before, what He will not share with no other, yet Jesus is able to receive that place of glory because He had this same glory with God which is the same as the Father:

v30 “I and the Father are one.” Making Him equal with God, because God will not share His glory with another god, Jesus is not another but one with the Father…”
The new testament Apostles then takes this ancient teaching of old, from God, given to the Prophets of old, including Isaiah from age 750's BC, and teaches the church.
In turn, the church since the 1st century then teaches these exact teachings from God’s revelations of Himself, and of His work, and teaches the members of the church these things about God.
Here below, Phillip the Apostle is teaching the church, how we as fellow Christians, are to be to one another, by using the above knowledge of Jesus actions as God the Word with God the Father:

Pricks or Goads are sharp, edgy, pointy spines, that can cut, stab, and kill, therefore, God was warning Saul of Tarsus that he would be killed if he continued the actions which attack God directly, by attacking His people.

thats because it was pretty true ( until arabia became the center of the islamic world + oil being discovered) , because apart from a few areas , arabia is a harsh environment where stable crops cant be grown.
arabias biggest stength came from the fact that it was the only viable land route to east asia, and that it also had sea routes through the persian gulf and the red sea, but the poor local development meant that arabia was always a place of foreign influence until muhammad made it both a military power AND a huge religious center, (since it's said that every good muslim should visit the holy cities of meccas and medina once in their life)

I visited the remains of its ancient past and I can tell you it is very rich. First of all the climate of the Arabian Peninsula wasn't always as dry as today. The amazing rock art of Jubbah and Shuwaymis that are listed at UNESCO World Heritage testify of how life thrived there some 10,000 years ago.
Then some oases became very rich as early as the 3rd millennium BCE thanks to the development of agriculture (yes!) and to their position along the ancient frankincense trade routes. Cities like Tayma, Dedan, Madyan, Najran,... were already developed urban centers at the beginning of the 1st millennium BCE.
This wealth even attracted the surrounding empires that conquered vast part of Arabia (the Babylonians in 552 BCE, the Nabateans in the 1st century BCE, the Romans in 106 CE, and the Himyarites and Abyssinians in the 5th and 6th century CE).
Those are well established historical facts that are confirmed by the archeological remains still visible today
@@florencioigual you seem to be mistaking trade with mineral wealth. The empires that conquered Arabia in the past did so for greater connection to the maritime spice routes. When the Mongols conquered central Asia, the land-based Silk Road became much more prevalent, thus making Arabia less profitable (still lots of trade though). Until the discovery of vast oil reserves, Arabia was not naturally rich enough to warrant invasion. The diaspora of tribes made it much more trouble than it was worth. Some empires like the Ottomans conquered the coasts for trade and for the holy sites but left the interior alone. As was stated earlier, the climate in interior Arabia was poor for agriculture, which is why the agricultural revolution happened in Mesopotamia and Egypt, not in Arabia. This isn't meant to hate on Arabia or anything. It's a beautiful place with its own unique cultural charm. I'm just clarifying the historical circumstances.
@@elmo8524 I'm not mistaking trade with mineral wealth. As surprising as it sounds the caravan trade did make some Arabian oases rich. Have you been to Petra? More than 600 monumental tombs, a large city with infrastructures, temples, a theater..., and the city was conquered by the Romans and the Byzantines. Is there any valuable resource in or around Petra? No. But the city was imposing 25% tax on all goods that were transiting here. And guess why Petra declined? Because the trade roads moved north at the benefit of Palmyra.
If it surprises you here is some more information to understand the context.
First of all there is the fact that not all the Arabian Peninsula is dry. Indeed, the south which is today Yemen and Oman benefit from the Indian Ocean monsoon hence have developed agriculture millenia ago (of course after the Levant).
Secondly you have to take into account that incense and myrrh that are today used for comfort were during antiquity highly priced commodities. As an example the Roman priests used to spend fortunes to buy them for their rituals. As a result these commodities became more expensive than gold! (for the same weight). The Romans valued incense and myrrh so much that in 25 BC the praefect of Egypt, Aelius Galus, led an expedition until Mar'ib, the ancient capital of the kingdom of Sheeba (in today's Yemen). They reached the city but couldn't hold control of it so the military campaign was rather a failure. The Romans would have never spent so much effort in such a perilous expedition if it wouldn't be for seizing considerable wealth. Check online how rich and developed were the ancient kingdoms of Yemen and you'll realize they were much more developed than we think (Sheeba, Hadramawut, Qataban, Himyar,...).
Last important point about which you are partially right: the maritime routes. One could claim that the ancient Yemeni kingdoms could have transported their goods through the sea, but this wasn't true for the Red Sea because of two difficulties: the coral reefs that spread all along the shores of the Red Sea, and more importantly the northern winds that prevented sailors to reach even today's Egypt territory. The Arabs were not good sailors so they preferred to carry their goods through the Arabian Peninsula, and by doing so they enriched the oases along the way. Even the spices coming from India were unloaded in Yemeni ports like Aden or Mukalla to be then carried by camels through the desert. Where you get right is that the Roman conquest of Egypt in 30 BC overwhelmed the trade roads because the Romans had more advanced sailing techniques and proved to be able to sail against the Red Sea wind. The geographer Strabo mentions that in the year 24 BC alone there were already 120 trading ships departing for India. From that time the inland routes became far less important but were still active.
For your information I visited many ancient Arabian trade cities and I discuss this topic with the specialists who study this history on site so I'm pretty sure that what I'm describing here is close to the state of knowledge we have today about ancient trade in the Arabian Peninsula

I'm a Muslim myself but it is true that radical Muslims always demonize the history of pre islamic civilizations and destroy the artifacts. The most effected region by these behaviors is arabia and the Levant. As Muslims we need to stop this behavior and protect our heritage and stand against the radicals (isis, Wahhabism, Al Qaeeda...)

So obviously when he said Arabia he meant the middle part of the peninsula in which Islam began. That area was rarely ever a point of interest for any empire before Muhammad.
