    Hey, everyone! Thanks for watching. We have a lot more work to do to get the i3 and i5 series CPUs tested, and are also working on FX & AMD CPUs for the inevitable Zen benchmarks. For now, our full, detailed specs, architecture, and chipset portion of this review are in the written version: www.gamersnexus.net/hwreviews/2744-intel-i7-7700k-review-and-benchmark

      Should I be worried about framerates if i buy a 3440*1440 monitor for my GTX 1080? I'm already getting as low as 59 fps in Geothermal Valley in Rise of the Tomb Raider in 1080p which makes me feel reluctant to get the 1440p ultrawide

    • @NieJestemzPolskiPL
      @NieJestemzPolskiPL 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Higher resolutions demand more from GPU side, to CPU mostly it doesn't matter what resolution you are using.

    • @Dennell_Mount_and_Blade
      @Dennell_Mount_and_Blade 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wtf? 59 fps in 1080p with the gtx 1080? Either your drivers are not updated properly, or your cpu is a fx 4300. A gtx 1080 should be able to get 100fps average in 1440p in Rise of the Tom Raider with a minimum of 78.

    • @snozbaries
      @snozbaries 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      go for it man some games just run better than others. with a 1080 you should have no problem @ 1440 in most situations. also anti aliasing plays a lesser role at higher resolutions, so you can get away with turning that down a bit.

    • @MarcusH...
      @MarcusH... 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      D Jnsen I have a 6600k at 4.5 and my GTX 1080 is running at 2000+. Throughout most of the game it has been substantially higher fps. But parts in Geothermal Valley averages at like 65fps with dips just below 60fps

    Wow thanks a lot for this video. I just bought an i7 7700k and a MSI M5 motherboard and I was shocked that my CPU temps got over 80C under full load using a Dark Rock 3 cooler. Changing the core voltage from auto to 1.200V and cpu ratio to 45 (4.5 Ghz) droppen the temps to max 65C under full load :D

    Great video, thank you for your time. I purchased a Skylake 6700K a couple months ago knowing that Kaby Lake was coming out and have no regrets seeing these benchmarks. I'll wait for the next generation. Oh and a great game that is very CPU intensive having used the same programs you use as well others like Aida64 and Intel Burn Test is ARMA 3. Arma 3 is super hard on the CPU in a real world application. I loved that I was able to diagnose my CPU was bottlenecking my GPU that other benchmarks didn't identify. Increasing my frequency on my CPU fixed the GPU bottlenecking and my PC is awesome now. Just thought I'd recommend Arma for benchmarking, I bought that game just for it and honestly, fell in love with it but that's another topic of discussion. Thanks again! Take care!

      Oh and I meant to add I am able to achieve 4.734 on my 6700K with a NH-D15 Noctua cooler. I do have 7 3000RPM Industrial Noctua Case fans and a newly added G3 1000W PSU along with my Evga 1080 FTW. At 4.734 @ 1.345V I get temps as high as 76 under max load, 45-50 normal load and 22-24 idle. Want to note I manually clocked my CPU as like you mentioned, my Asus Maximus Hero 8 Alpha would run it around 1.35V stock.. ridiculous! Anyways. Couldn't be happier with my Skylake honestly :> I probably could push it over 4.734 but the gains I'll get would be diminishing or i'll get some other bottleneck as you mentioned when pushing the 7700K over 5ghz. Ok see ya!

    Thanks for testing the 2600K. Considering its low stock clockspeed (3.4Ghz) and the fact that it overclocks so easily to 4.4Ghz on air, would you still give that upgrade recommendation? I think it ended up so low compared to the other i7's because their clockspeeds are minimum 4Ghz. Most of us who still have this six year old CPU will be running it at +4Ghz anyway.

  • @fifthgear93

    These were some pretty in-depth benchmarks. Thank you Steve for taking the time to do so much of them and do them properly. Especially the gaming benchmarks, 1% lows and 0.1% lows are key to judging how good a game actually feels. Anandtech didn't even bother to include minimum framerates in their benchmarks, let alone frametimes or other such data.

    I wonder if delidding is going to become a thing again with these chips. It certainly appears that heat transfer to the IHS could be a problem. The only question is how Intel put the IHS on and if it's removable this generation.
    I'm looking at potentially getting a high end CPU for the first time in a very long time, and Intel isn't doing a good job of compelling me to go 7th gen i7. Going to wait and see what happens with Ryzen.

      Found a problem with it (don't know about 6700K and 7700K). With heavy loads (DOOM stage with snow, one exact room is poorly optimized, or Eve online multi client running or medium to big scale battle) with HT on i get 2 threads on same core overloaded. Sound starts crackling and game stutters, FPS drops below 30. Turning HT off completely resolves this issue. Probably this CPU, even OCed to 4.5-4.8 GHz will show less FPS in games than 6700K or 7700K runnig with same speed, and they can be clocked even higher, DDR3 instead of DDR4 will slow down a bit too, but since i use 32" 4K 60Hz display i need only stable FPS which this CPU still provides in all modern games. And even if i have DDR3 1600 CL10, i have whole 64Gb of it ))
      So gaming/workloads are still good on this 5 years old CPU.

    • @snrd
      @snrd 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, it's like they put toothpaste unter the heatspreader. The HEDT processors all are soldered to the IHS so that the heat transfer is much better.
      I don't understand why Intel just doesn't put at least better TIM or liquid metal on the K-CPUs. Now you hit a fucking temperature limit before being limited by the processors capabilities so that the only option is to delid them. That sucks hard since your warranty goes down the drain. But we all know Intel doesn't care and wants enthusiast to buy their overpriced 6- and 8-cores you mostly won't need for gaming.
      Let's hope Zen will do all better.

    Gigabyte - The MB manufacturer that doesn't learn. They already had that voltage problem with Haswell/Devils Canyon boards/cpus. Stock voltages so high that even with improved cooling that 4790K I used would throttle or even outright crash on the Z97 UD5 BK. Bringing the voltage down from nearly 1.3V (stock!!!) to a more resonable 1.15V solved all the problems. Now that system is running 24/7 since 2 years.

    I'm not sure if I will want to upgrade quite yet. My 4930k is still very competitive with it's 160MHz base clock and 4.3GHz core clock across all 6 cores all the time. It manages to keep both my Strix 1080's fed nicely.

    Interesting tests with temperatures. I would like to see temperature comparisons with older CPUs (2600k,4790k, etc) with overclocks on those to match the temperatures of the 7700k. If both are overclocked with similar high end coolers, how would the performance look in your tests? It appears the 7700k's gains in performance come at the cost of temperature. Well, just overclock the old stuff. Boom there's your performance gains. If Intel is deciding to push consumers into higher end cooling situations to get the performance gains its new CPU offers, how does it hold up when the methodology is applied to previous generations?

    Not surprising that the 7700K is barely faster than the 6700K. When I need to upgrade I'll probably try to get my hands on 6700K for cheap or I might just see what Ryzen has in store for us.

  • @il2xbox
    @il2xbox 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Congrats on 80k subs!
    Kaby lake is just the "optimize" step in Intel's new development cycle, right? So does that mean that the next generation they make will be a brand new architecture? Hopefully their next architecture will actually bring better performance than this, I'm getting a little tired of 1% performance improvements between Intel generations. At least they seem to be feeling some pressure from AMD Zen already, I'm pretty sure that's why they finally decided to release an unlocked i3, which in my opinion is the most interesting thing about the Kaby Lake release, because up till now i3s have kinda sucked and one of the main reasons to go with a budget AMD CPU like the Athlon 860k over an i3 was that the 860k is an actual unlocked quad core, but the i3 was locked, and the unlocked Pentium has massive frame drops and stutters so it's not really a valid choice anyway. I'll be very interested to see Zen quad core CPUs benchmarked against the unlocked Kaby Lake i3 and i5.

    With these small increments in performance, AMD has a real chance to catch with Intel. I really hope they do, then Intel can wake up, and make some proper performance increments.

    Really wish GN could dig up an Ivy Bridge CPU to add to the bench-marking mix. Also be nice to add mid-range GPUs (1060/480) results to the mix to see how lower demanding graphics affect the disparity of Intel generations.
    My guess is a 1060/480 won't show as great of a disparity between Sandy Bridge, or perhaps Ivy Bridge, to Haswel and beyond. Or maybe I'm just hoping my Ivy Bridge system isn't too outdated for the new mid-range cards ;)

      I wouldn't count on AMD giving you a better chip then Intel, everything I see is they are trying to deliver a chip comparable to Intel. The only benefit with AMD is it will probably be cheaper but performance wise, you'd be better off sticking with Intel if I could guess. Speculation of course but so far I've seen nothing to suggest otherwise. Just carbon copying competition. We'll see though. See ya.

    I went with the 7700K on a gigabyte z170x-designare board with the corsair h110i v2 cooler. The system runs well, Doom 1440p/144hz@144fps, but i noticed the core voltage is set to 1.35/36 and bounces around a lot from 1.1-1.4. Should I lock down the cpu fluctuation on voltage and lock its speed? i've only been modifying the lower multipliers, setting them around 48 for best stability. CPU runs 50-60*C under load, averaging ~55*C.

  • @QuakeGamerROTMG
    @QuakeGamerROTMG 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Looking at this now and seeing the Voltage the board was using on the auto setting is insane because at 1.4V (the Voltage that board was trying to use on auto) I am able to run my 7700K at stable 5.2GHz at 1.4V while this was tested with the CPU at it's max boost frequency on all cores, just 4.5GHz.

  • @NonoNonaa
