On my first 3D printed prop, a scorpion mask, I wanted to save some time, because it was my first prop and I didn't know Prince usually took so much time. I positioned it forward, and all of the cracks and crevices were just filled with support material it took blood sweat and tears to get that all out, and I learned a valuable lesson lol

Another strategy for preserving fine details at the bottom of a model is to turn off the "Automatically drop models to the build plate" setting (Preferences > Configure Cura> General) and raising the model a millimeter or two off the build plate so that everything at the bottom is on supports regardless of orientation. Z-clearance permitting you may also be able to print more vertically, potentially reducing print time and support material. In some cases, though, doing so may just raise some features that require support, like the eyes on the mask at the beginning, making for taller supports without really reducing material used. It's also a good idea to keep *some* tilt for tall prints to make sure they don't topple over before they finish. So it may not always be the best option, but it's shaved between 30 minutes and 1 1/2 hours off of a few prints for me.

My first print of the Iron Man helmet waas a disaster, but one that you can look and and learn from (which you've mentioned on other videos) I did order an extender kit for my 3D printer to take it to 400x400 so piecing and welding should be eliminated.

Frank, have you encountered problems with your extruder (nozzle) colliding with a print? Ender 5 Plus, I've started having issues with the extruder hitting the print and knocking it over. Everything runs fine, excellent in fact....80-90-100mm+ , then at some point (not identical) the nozzle collides with the print and knocks it over. I suspect the z-axis is binding, but running the bed up/down by itself reveals no issue. Have not had this issue prior, it just started with an Ahsoka Tano costume part, and has repeated the problem 4 times...I video recorded it so I could see what happened by not the actual cause of the issue.

I increased my z hop so it would go up over parts....

Snow Wolves Productions did that. Not fixed. Printing on a raft so it's not warping either. Happens on two different PLA+ filaments, speed change is no effect. Part print quality looks great all the way until it hits. Weird thing is it was fine for weeks until now. Bed leveled, z axis is identical on both lead screws. So am going to take that apart, clean an lube it, upgrade the couplers, and swap build plates with an identical glass plate, then level, mesh, z offset, and print five towers one each in the corners and one in the middle to see how that does.

I got a question, do you alway have to use supports for large prints? I recently printed a 1/6 scale 2018 dodge Durango and it took 32 days because of the supports, which took 4 1/2 filaments. So do I necessary need supports?

You need supports to supports impossible to print areas

I'm getting a haze on my paint. Not sure why... used sandable dupli-color then dupli-color metal cast red. Haze, then used Krypton fusion paint and primer, then red again...same problem...
