  • Like the channel? Help support it here- paypal.me/racknload?locale.x=... A 'Racknload' full review of the superb Lithgow LA101. A great looking rifle straight out of the box! Tough, accurate, reliable. The barrel is free floated and is thicker than the heavy varmint barrel on the CZ 455/452. Plus a match chamber where the bullet is chambered into the rifling in the barrel.
    Building on more than a century of military manufacturing expertise in Lithgow, NSW, the Australian-made LA101 CrossOver is a hunting / target rifle with modern tactical styling, high accuracy and reliability.
    It will initially be offered in .22 LR, .22 WMR and .17 HMR Rimfire calibres, and will feature a wider fore-end and more vertical handgrip for stable bipod or bench use, a heavy barrel for stability, accuracy and slow heat build-up, plus rapid and smooth bolt operation with triple-lug 60-degree locking. Centrefire variants in .223 and .308 will follow.
    The stock will include an integral moulded trigger guard and butt hook for improved prone hold, and will be made from the same injection moulded nylon as Thales Australia’s new Austeyr-based EF88 rifle currently being developed for the Australian Defence Force, as well as the F90 export variant.
    The LA101 CrossOver barrel will have a proprietary semi match chamber for improved accuracy with a wide variety of ammunition. Each military grade steel barrel will be cold forged, manufactured on the same machine at Lithgow that makes barrels for the ADF’s Austeyr rifles and ensures their outstanding accuracy - the only such machine in the southern hemisphere.
    Lithgow Arms is a Thales Australia-owned business, and Thales Australia CEO Chris Jenkins said: “We’re building on our proud military heritage to offer a new Australian rifle specifically for Australian customers. We’ve been asked about this idea for many years, and decided it’s now time to meet the demand for a competitively priced, locally made rifle. There is definitely a place in the market for a product like this, and we believe customers will appreciate owning a rifle made at Lithgow, with all its heritage and storied place in Australian military history.”

    Hint to all, ive had my lithgow now for over a year now and ive shot winchesters cci's even going expensive with elly's
    If you want the best accuracy go federals 510 round nose will get you sub inch groupings, if you're pest controlling and want some high velocity go the federal 714 hollow point high velocity inch groups at 50yards.
    In my opinion I think lithgow will make its mark in the firearms industry in years to come so look out for them down the track and I cannot express how much im looking forwad to the 223 and 308 models to come out later this year.

    Excellent gun (and review ) i have one myself - 42 gr winchester Powerpoint seem to be the best match for it, if you are using this gun for pest control - rabbit/possum/ and even for well placed shots on goat. As a Gunsmith here in NZ i have owned/shot and worked on a lot of .22 rifles of all qualitys and brands.....this is my favorite gun ...for the time being.

    Yeah mat is right. Plus replacement bolt handle and bolt cover, (black thingy at the back of the bolt). Also Aussie made by Luminer arms if I'm right. Made from Ti if I remember. I have this rifle and the only thing I found a pain was bedding, but u can get them in wood and laminate now so even that is easy. Shoots like a dream and a great practice rifle for the big brothers 223, 243, & 308.

    Had mine for 4 years now and can’t really fault it, except the trigger and Lithgows customers service! From day one trigger had just enough creep to be annoying and the pull weight a hefty 4.4lbs! A bit on the heavy side for a rifle of this quality and of course the trigger unit isn’t adjustable (yes I know some people with change the springs but Lithgow strongly discourages the practice) All Lithgow wanted to do is sell me a new trigger! The irony is that’s what I will have to do if I want to get the most out of this superb little .22lr. If I get over myself when shooting it’s a real tack driver. Definitely worth a look if you want a quality firearm.

  • @muzzafreef8250

    if you look at the bolt you will see that the cz has the old fashioned style springclip holding the extractors in place whereas the lithgow has two drilled and tapped screws holding the extractors a much higher quality system I remember that old style of springclip on cheap 22rf rifles back in the 60s

  • @tobiassvensson6565

    the cz also have two looking lugs. it have the bolt handle and on the opposite side of the bolt there is a looking lug. Also if you look in the reciver there is a grove in the back whear the lug locks in to.

    I have found the accuracy of my LA101 to be very ammo dependent. Too many flyers with CCI Standard but super accurate with Lapua SK rounds. You did not mention that the barrel is free floated and is thicker than the heavy varmint barrel on the CZ 455, nor did you mention the match chamber. If you load a round into the chamber and then eject it without firing, you can see that the bullet has gone right into the rifled lands of the barrel. With the right ammo, I can consistently manage half inch groups at 50 metres. I agree with you, this is a superb rifle for target shooting.

    Hi Rack. I have been looking at the Crossover since i watched 'ozziereview's video.
    After seeing your review in your 'unique' style i have bought one and i love it. Not put many rounds through it yet only 150 isn, but my god its accurate already printing sub half inch at 50 yards, get the barrel run in and some quality ammo half inch at 100 ???
    Thanks Rack your review convinced me to get me money out, well pleased its a top quality rifle, good trigger, quality bolt and the cerakote finnish, quality.
    Keep them coming Rack.

      +RACKNLOAD Thanks for the reply Rack. Yes money well spent, it will be used for targets, paper and steel, the gun lends itself to it. The glass is a Hawke Side winder TAC 8.5 x 25 x 42. Not the best scope i do have some issues with it, but it does suit the gun well, i may change it for a Nikon Monarch or a Vortex of some sort. Keep the reviews coming. Johnny.

      Well. I may be going back. after 70 rounds and 10 miss feeds id say the mag is crap. One failure to extract a live round and it throws brass everywhere including right into the scope and back down into the action. Lithgow to their credit want the gun back to investigate the issues. They said they had a bad batch of mags and I might have ended up with one. So that kinda sucked. But I love the feel of the gun and accuracy wise it was great.

    • @archibaldthesimple
      @archibaldthesimple 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Jake Harvey ok so they polished the bolt, new extractors, new feed ramp, new mag, all new springs and a new paint job (why I dont know). The gun got back to me dirty. Lithgow did not clean the gun after test firing so when I put a pull through through it, it came out rust red. looks like no damage, but to say I am not impressed is a understatement.

    • @archibaldthesimple
      @archibaldthesimple 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      yeah they fixed it. the brass stacks in a very neat pile. no misfeeds now and superb accuracy. it is a very good gun now shame there were so many teething issues. I can't fault it now.

      Hi mate, yeah the Lithgow is a great rifle and very accurate.......but........I have since PX'ed it for a CZ 455 as the Lithgow developed a fault on the bolt, basically extraction issues, after waiting for 6 weeks for parts to come from OZ (that still have not arrived) I got tired of waiting. The rifle is very accurate at 100 yards but I did not get chance to take it out any further.....

    • @Rumpole1000
      @Rumpole1000 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi mate, I was looking at the Lithgow .22 today and may still buy it. Did you end up getting the part you needed from here in Oz? If so are you still using this rifle?

    • @pauldobell
      @pauldobell 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @racknload Hi I went on lithgows website and they acknowledged feed issues, see below statement. Not sure if your problem was related.
      My 22LR LA101 magazines don’t feed properly. What’s going on?
      Some 22LR LA101 CrossOver owners have noted less than optimal feed performance reported as ‘failure to feed’ or ‘stove piping.’ Lithgow Arms has traced the feed issues to a non-compliant batch of magazine round followers that are black in colour. We have updated the follower design to a new silver coloured part with more precisely controlled dimensions that feeds reliably.
      Are you experiencing feeding, extraction or ejection issues?
      Please read the following to help accurately describe the issue you are experiencing:
      A feed issue is when the round is not feeding smoothly from the magazine into the chamber.
      An extraction issue is when the unfired or fired round is not being pulled from the chamber via the extractor(s).
      An ejection issue is when the unfired or fired round is not being fully ejected from the action.
      If you are experiencing an extraction issue, clean your chamber with an appropriate sized bronze brush to ensure there is no fouling in the chamber. Inspect fired cases for damage to indicate unwanted matter in your chamber. Check your extractor(s) are present and working correctly. Change your ammunition as some factory ammunition natures can cause extraction issues.

    The Lithgow Crossover LA101 is no doubt a fine rifle, but unless you're in Australia, the comparison between it and the CZ 455 Varmint is not a very valid one. Your protectionist trade practices raise the prices of imported guns sky high; in the U.S., the Lithgow sells for $1200d while you can find the CZ model for $400. And if you want to get down to naked accuracy at a bargain price, the Savage Mark II FVSR will shoot as well or better than your groups for a measly $230, same with the newer Savage B22 FVSR.

    I bought one....was VERY disappointed. Terrible groups....bolt that hangs up a lot. Shears lead off bullets going into chamber. I can go on and on.... My CZ will absolutely KILL this rifle on the bench. I would NOT recommend anyone buying this rifle.

      Send it back to your gun dealer Lithgow are pretty good on replacing or any problems, go on the Lithgow Firearms Owners Club Australia guys could help you out but seen some fantastic results esp from a guy at my gunclub all shots nearly in the same hole

      @@josephgittos3787 I will send it back. I am hopeful it will be resolved. I've never spent this much on a 22lr that did not perform well. Just wish that someone would have stopped me from buying it when I could do much better at half the price.

      i lost interest a minute or so in as you were mumbling and dithering, too many other video's available so i watched others that were better, i am no expert fellah, i just know what i like and what i don't like. i'm sure your a hellova lot better at making video's than i am, no offence meant if thats what you interpreted by my comment

      Fair comment, I didn't realise I was mumbling though. Never the less, they are great rifles, atb, Rack
