Back then the TRD sales brochures at the dealerships were filled with real performance parts for the MR2., Supra, Celica and so much more.. These days Toyota has only "Accessory" brochures with mainly cosmetic nonsense, and the occasional cat back exhaust. The 90's were awesome.
Car companies need to advocate for car free cities so that they no longer have to sell exo crap, due to reduced demand for vehicles they could make more performance cars marketted towards car enthusiasts while making electric busses or trains as their main thing and performance cars as their secondary sales. I've got a JDM 1995 build date N/A series II SW20 with a factory hard top which I bought from a friend who imported it from Japan when he moved back to Sydney. It's totally stock standard with 234 000 kilometres on the clock. I love it and so does my wife and kids. I have often wondered what the turbo version would be like as they were never imported by Toyota to Australia, they were what we call "Grey Imports"
I used to see a metallic blue TRD 2000GT in Lancashire in the late 90’s. I don’t know if it was a replica. I love that rear wing. I love all the TRD, Toms, C-one, Mugen, Modulo, Mazdaspeed, RE Amemiya, Nismo, Autech and Impul cars.
Great vid. Love seeing the footage of the 2000GT. Back in the day, us US owners just heard whispers of such a thing. I owned my hardtop turbo from 96-2006. One of this most fun cars I have ever owned. A lot of work when things started to fail, but the Love/Hate relationship was strong, and I still miss driving it. I think the one thing all owners should do (especially the pre-1993 cars) is install an LSD. That will almost eliminate tail whip. Otherthan that, tune the suspension as you prefer and learn the car.
I was driving my brothers 91 NSX for a while and that car gets alot of attention. I then went back to driving my 93 Mr2 Turbo and I will say I had more fun Driving it then I did the NSX. I've owned 4 SW20 and my last one sold in 06 or 07. The current owner still owns it and will never sale it. I will be getting another one in the future, definitely my favorite all around car.
this brings back some memories. I fell in love with the second gen MR2 around 2009 and it became a dream car, I wanted one so bad I was looking up engine parts and widebody kits, eventually finding the 2000GT widebody replica kits which became the goal. A few years later, I test drove one when I was looking for my first car but my dad convinced me not to buy it. He was right because it probably would've been terrible in the snow lol but I'd still say if I became a millionaire over night this would be one of the first cars I'd buy along with an Evo 8, then an 240sx and to finish an Audi R8.

I love these in-house tuner cars. Can you imagine what a TRD 4000GT or 5000GT would be like? I think the Lexus LC chassis would be a good candidate for a “5000GT” due to the 5.0 engine but has lots of potential if they just paired it up with a quicker dual clutch transmission and a higher rev limit and a lighter flywheel. One can dream 😅
This weight class of car is my favourite for a daily driver: 2 seats are enough for commuting, its tiny size fits into every parking lot and the light weight saves fuel. One does not have to accelerate, if one did not brake beforehand 😁😁
the only issue with these cars is the road feel on longer trips. here in california the roads are terrible and run down, and my car is literally BOUNCING on them, i feel every little crack, dip, and rock on the road. i fear for my old suspension, and my passenger does not enjoy it either. i've been tempted to get a modern car many times for the sake of my significant other.
@rzt430 well, over here in Germany the roads are okay. Bumpy zones get lower speed limits until they get repaired. And i agree about the road trips, but over here the distances are a lot shorter 😅
@@grafgeo9194 indeed, i only moved to the us a few years ago, coming from east asia. the longer distances involving rough roads are definitely a huge difference. in my home country people drive small cars, i did as well, and it was completely fine. however, our roads are very narrow. i envy you guys in germany who get both the benefits of both wide, well maintained roads, and shorter commute distances i've been considering getting a new mazda 3, as the commute on small older cars(so far a 7th gen celica, an NA mr2 and an NC miata) during longer(2h-5h) trips is BRUTAL, and my girlfriend feels that it is sketchy

Love this car, never actually driven one. In sim-cade video games it only seems to oversteer until you lower and stiffen the suspension which sort of makes sense as they were meant to be daily drivers, not just pure sports cars. What was really cool about them is, if you know cars and wanted a true sports car, in it's time it was an affordable option you could modify into a pure sports car.

@simonsmith5092 I totally skipped the 360. Don't remember it in Forza 1or 2, and it's not in 6 or 7. Don't make me get a 360 for one car, the only reason I have F6 is for the AE86 (Toyota as a whole really, but mostly the hachi roku), I'd have been happy with just 7 otherwise 😅
Strictly speaking, it was. Gran Turismo 2 had this car, but the dated graphics don't do it justice. Sadly, GT3 had a much reduced selection of cars, and so the 2000GT disappeared.

My SW20 has Veilside bodykit but I had a knock off 2000GT and wish I had never sold it but there is a place in the UK I believe that do a decent replica kit for it so if I ever get bord of my Veilside I will definitely be going that route, Great video mate 😊✌️
the wheels are TRD alumi-K, they're the same as the Superstar OW-33 but TRD bought the patent they are not the same as the Work equip 05. they were also not standard to the TRD2000gt kit they were optional
@@WheeledUnicorns no the OW33/alumi-k are different, amount of bolts holding the centers, easiest way to differentiate is the little stepdown the Alumi-k has towards the center on the outside of the spoke. the equip05 does not have this. also the equip 05 has a U shaped hole in the barrel for the valve stem, the alumi-k has one of the bolt holes empty where the valve stem goes through
Ive never seen one of these but my biggest regret in life is the fact i didnt buy that mr2 for 1000 bucks that had already been halfway swapped to a camry v6 with a turbo

So I can't get a body kit made or buy one and get the appropriate engine modifications to get my hands on one of these. But even then this is not the MR2 I want I personally want the MR2 that was designed to join group b rally in 1987 was designed built tested and drivable on the streets even though group b rally was discontinued in 86 and as far as we know there is a handful of models still running today with well over 500 horsepower coming out of that 4 cylinder in the back with the dual clamshell body panel setup

I think there are at least two genuine TRD 2000GT's in the country, the most well known one is a metallic blue. I think there is a red one also.
