I have not watched any of your earlier videos, and this was my first. Just hearing the Madhyamam you played at the beginning instantly reminded of Maestro Chitti Babu sir. Indeed, Veena is as ancient as the Vedas and as modern as tomorrow!
That was so melodious….. playing on both the strings at a time …. Very lucky to get such wonderful tips from an accomplished student of Sri Chitti Babu Garu🙏
Being an ardent fan of Maestro Chittibabu since my childhood, now I understand that from where your caliber, rendition, and teaching commands were comes from. It is amazing that you are one of the disciples of Chittibabu. You have unveiled the double string technics which makes me thrilled while listening to his chanting Vedam. His Bahudaari is another example of his double-string technics. He made several renditions along with his disciples. You have to share your wonderful learning experiences, mam, please. Thank you.
Thank you. Yes I was very blessed to learn from the Maestro and other great Gurus. Thanks to benevolent people like you who recognize quality, I have been able to spread this knowledge that I was privileged to gain.
Once again Mala Vishwanathan not only delights her Rasikas but also demonstrates to her students of varying age groups and Backgrounds in music. In her previous video she enthralled her listeners with a rendition of Vazhi Kadakumma and now she demonstrates the technique with so much transparency .The double string effect has an effect which is difficult to describe has to be experienced and thanks for teaching this technique .My Pranaams to this wonderful teacher may your tribe increase
Wow. The effect is just beyond words. Thank you for demonstrating these very important nuances. Knowledge is to share, and you have been providing it without any restrictions.
Mam, Beautiful to see the double string effects, in other video of Veda playing I was mesmerised by that music, Thank u for this beautiful explanation 🙏🙏🙏
Wow this is sooooper mam. Mam I want to learn from you where do you reside. I am home maker I finished my junior exams, now I want to learn some keerthsnas and some devaranamas in concert pattern please can you guide me mam. Eagerly waiting for your Reply.
Namaskar 🙏 ma'am !!! I just admire how you explain and educate about the veena ... Really I like veena and dreamt to learn it !! May you please teach me online ?? Eagerly waiting for your response!!! 😇
Thank you for the video. I was hoping I could ask a question about fingering. If you take for example KalyanaVasantham Raga and the swara pattern GMDNSRSNDPMGRSNS meant to be done in Akkara (single pluck) at what point would you go from the first string to the second string? I see one option is to play the Akkara on the first string until you get to the final SNS which would require the second string for the lower Nishadam but this creates a disconnect since you will need an extra pluck when you shift to the second string. The second option would be to play the whole pattern on the second string so it can all be done in a single pluck, thought this would be harder. Which of these choices is preferable in this case?
I will split it as GMDNSGRS as one strike NDPMGR as one and SNS as the last.Realise that if sound is lost on too many notes it wont sound good.Aakarams also have split ups according to raga needs.
@@malaviswanathan thanks that was helpful. I didn’t know that extra plucks were allowed to sustain the sound in Akkara passages. So is it only in the final SNS that you shift from the first string to second string? Are these kind of fingering decisions usually an intuitive or experimental process based on what sounds good?
Lovely rendering and explanation ma'am .you have covered a variety of topics from changing string to setting veenai to sruti . great work . Any suggestions on pick up mikes for better audibility .
For audibility certainly it is the best thing. I believe that if you have a good strength of plucking and playing a regular Mike should be able to handle an auditorium. At the same time use of technology to get the tone out is also not a bad idea. That is at the performance level. These days I see beginners wrongly misguided into installing pick ups. One will never learn the pressure required for the plucking and playing techniques
@@malaviswanathan thanks malaji for the prompt reply. I fully appreciate your effort to help students of veena . Your style of playing is also very beautiful. Earlier a corporate employee, I wasn't in touch with the instrument for quite a long time. Now slowly getting back to the dear instrument. So wanted some help in the types of pickups that can be used .for small performances etc .and where to get them from .where do you reside ? And any contact number please ?
Wow....I used to think how raavana would have played using all the octaves with all the 4+3 strings..witnessed today... superb mam..
Thanks
