Interesting concept Ed to cut the wings on the bandsaw then turn it. All the winged bowls I’ve done have all been turned on the lathe 100%. Good job my friend. 👍🇺🇸
Thank you so much! I looked and could only find ones that were completely turned on the lathe. I wanted to try something different and have it without a curved legs. Have a blessed day! - Ed
like it, just finished something similar. Lots of work with these winged things, its a pitty they remind me of dog bowls though. Lov the channel and thanks for sharing...
I've seen those a lot and never attempted one yet. You took the words right out my mouth. "That was a lot of work". I think it looks fantastic. I don't know how you can do a new video every week. I make things when I feel like it or someone asks me for something. But to be pressured to come up with weekly ideas, phewwwww. Your doing great. I'm still drooling over last weeks video. Take care Ed.
I should include that in my description. The link to where I got it is: amzn.to/2WyVJIf That is an affiliate link, but it doesn't cost you anymore. Thank you for watching my little project! Have a blessed day! - Ed
Thank you Eric! That's a great question. I'm still not as comfortable with the traditional tools as I am the carbides. The wings spinning made me nervous so I defaulted to the carbides to ensure I didn't have an accident. With more practice, I will be equally comfortable with them both. - Ed
That came out awesome Ed! I’ve never attempted a winged bowl, I need to try one! Thanks for the shoutout too, so awesome! I got your back on next weeks video!! Stay safe my friend!
I try and use the diamond stone until I take the concave area left by the grinder. It helps save the life of the tool. You're able to get a really sharp edge with the diamond stone. Just don't let it go too long before you touch it up. I typically sharpen it that way a few times during the project. I only show the first time. - Ed
Thank you very much Billy! I'm happy to report that I just ordered a new bandsaw so I'm hoping for more precise cuts and the ability to resaw up to 13". - Ed
Nice one Al not my favorite turning(I have done one myself) as its like a big propeller flying round. You did it a little different to most people but it was all the better for it. I have just turned a lidded pot with finiall like in your last video and should be uploading pictures on instagram some time Sunday
Thank you so much! I wanted to do a winged bowl, but I didn't want to do it like everyone else. I want to put my own spin on it. The lidded pot you made was awesome brother! Have a blessed day! - Ed
It's a nice looking bowl and you did a nice job. But, I think you went about it the hard and time consuming way. There are several videos on TH-cam that demonstrate how to turn a winged bowl on the lathe only. There is even a video using sacrificial wood so your fingers don't get busted up by a spinning chunk of wood. Otherwise, GREAT JOB!
Thank you! It would have been so much easier if I would have turned it all on the lathe, but I wanted a different look. I get inspiration from what I see others doing, but I try and make it my own. I pray that you and your family are safe and healthy! - Ed
Wolf Ridge Woodworking Thank you, Ed. Same wishes go to you and the family. I often wonder at times whether the fear is going to kill us instead of the disease. After all, since year 2000 we’ve been told the following will kill us or decimate the world: Y2K, Anthrax, SARS, Bird flue, Swine Flu, Ebola, E. Coli, 2008 financial crash, The Mayan Calendar, Zika Virus and several others. Nothing ever happened. Then top off things with the actions of tyrannical politicians. It ain’t good any way we look at it.
Very cool! I’ve never see a bowl like that either! Just one suggestion/request: get that ring off your finger when using tools. Makes me nervous! Seen too many skinned fingers from guys not removing their rings. 🤓
While I like most of your videos, this one did not give me a warm and fuzzy. A lot more sanding and filing rather than turning. Many others have done these completely on the lathe with lathe tools rather than bandsaws, rasps and sanding. The bowl came out nice though.
Thank you for taking a look at it John. I try and pull inspiration from what I see others doing, but put my own spin on it. With that said, I realize it's not for everyone and that's ok. I pray that you and your family are safe and healthy! - Ed
I think it’s an interesting piece but I think you cost yourself more time and effort and limited what you could do by cutting the wings on the bandsaw, at least the under cut. I watched to see if it worked as it was an interesting idea but it did not work out in my opinion, sorry. You preset your wing thickness without taking into consideration that once you spin it and cut into those wings either on the center or the edges of the wings depending on what direction you approach them, causing you to cut through or deforming them if you try to round them out. Hence the rasp and hours of sanding BUT you live and learn and I am glad that I watched the video to see how it would pan out. In the end it is a pretty piece but turning it to shape on the lathe in my opinion is much easier vs bandsaw, in my experience. I have done quite a few similar projects and the learning curve is high and I am trying to be honest with you and not critical hopefully helping you in the future. I’m a new subscriber btw and I enjoy your demeanor and delivery and your willingness to share what you know. Keep makin shavins as Captain Eddie Casteillin says!
Thank you Scott for watching! I completely agree with you and very much appreciate the honest feedback. You put it in a very constructive way. I enjoy pushing the envelope and seeing what happens. Sometime it works and sometimes it doesn't. All part of the learning process. Have a blessed day Scott! - Ed
Beautiful turning, Ed. 👍👍
Thank you very much Gord! Have a blessed day! - Ed
Like your idea of roughing out the wings on the bandsaw.
Thank you! - Ed
Looks great.
Thank you very much! - Ed
Thanks Ed, that turned out so lovely. Be safe
Thank you very much Val! Have a blessed day! - Ed
Ed that turned out really good! And it’s a cool concept to make the wings square like that! ✌️
Thank you David! It would have been so much easier to do it all on the lathe, but who wants easy. Ha ha. Have a blessed day! - Ed
I like this bowl very much. It is really so beautiful.
Thank you...I really appreciate it! Have a blessed day! - Ed
Looks really good! Definitely slot of work.
Thank you Lynn! Have a blessed day! - Ed
Looks really good from the cheap seats. Enjoyed as always. Have a good 1--Dave.
Thank you Dave....I really appreciate that! - Ed

Very nice, I like it. I haven't thought of doing anything like this. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you very much Mark! - Ed
Very nice!
Thank you Stuart! - Ed
Bowl looks great, Ed. I've never seen the square wings like that. Interesting concept. Take care and stay well. Bill
Thank you very much Bill! I pray that you and your family are safe and healthy! - Ed
👍👍👍Thanks for useful tips and detailed information.
Thank you very much! - Ed
@@WolfRidgeWoodworking You're welcome. Take care.
wasnt sure how it was going to turn out in the beginning but I must say it looks great nice work and thanks for sharing
Thank you very much! I wasn't sure how it was going to turn out until the very end. ha ha Have a blessed day! - Ed

Thank you Paul! I'm always thinking about different ideas. I've started writing them down so I don't forget them. - Ed
Hi Ed, That came out really well. I like the idea of using the bandsaw as well. Great work ED. Take care. Cheers, Huw
Thank you very much Huw! Have a blessed day my friend! - Ed
Beautiful piece! Where did you get your branding iron from?
What is the name of the sharpening stone you are using to hone?
I should include that in my description. The link to where I got it is: amzn.to/2WyVJIf That is an affiliate link, but it doesn't cost you anymore. Thank you for watching my little project! Have a blessed day! - Ed
Great video. Love the shape and commentary on the process. Curious why you used carbide tools on the outside and traditional tools on the inside.
Thank you Eric! That's a great question. I'm still not as comfortable with the traditional tools as I am the carbides. The wings spinning made me nervous so I defaulted to the carbides to ensure I didn't have an accident. With more practice, I will be equally comfortable with them both. - Ed

gorgeous bowl Ed take care stay safe god bless. Ed where did you get your stickers from.
Thank you very much Donald! I got my stickers from VistaPrint, but I'm thinking about looking for a new place. Their prices are on the high side. - Ed
A lot of work but well worth it for the result!
Thank you Shaun! - Ed
Do you always only sharpen with a hand diamond stone like that?
I try and use the diamond stone until I take the concave area left by the grinder. It helps save the life of the tool. You're able to get a really sharp edge with the diamond stone. Wolf Ridge Woodworking awesome thanks! I mostly use carbide, but I’m trying to branch out.
Thanks for the shout out, Ed! The bowl came out nice in spite of the bandsaw oops. But it's all lessons learned, right?
Billy
Thank you very much Billy! I'm happy to report that I just ordered a new bandsaw so I'm hoping for more precise cuts and the ability to resaw up to 13". - Ed
A bit arse about but you got there in the end.
Thank you for watching! - Ed
