Hi Ed ... beautiful bowl... the Walnut is a lovely rich colour... classic shape... the gouge marks on the outside are great ... that's on the to do list.... take care...All the best.....Andy
Beautiful bowl, Ed. I prefer the inside of the bowl but my wife really likes the outside so you pleased both of us! Well done, sir! 👍👍👍👍👍 Happy turning, .....Gord
Thank you Dennis! I'd love to see it when you make it. Please consider sharing it using the "Submit Your Project" link on my website. Have a blessed day! - Ed
Ed, I think that is the best bowl I have seen you make. That hammered texture you created really came out great. Took you more time than I would have the patience for.
Thank you very much Gary. I really appreciate you saying that. It was one of my longer projects, but it was so much fun to make. I will definitely be doing more things like this in the future. - Ed
Hi Ed, the carving on that bowl reminded me of the dough bowl my Dad had passed down from his Grandmother. You are a true wood artist, my friend. Great job! Cheers, Paige C.
Thank you very much Paige! I'm very humbled by your kind words. I love those long dough bowls and have a design in my notebook. I'm thinking it will be an experiment with different tools to carve it. Thank you again for saying such kinds things! Have a blessed day! - Ed
I think it came out very beautiful the granite is amazing I love walnut wood it’s a dark and it’s just awesome looking I think you did a great job on the shipping of the outside looks great I never would’ve thought doing something like that to bowl does look like an antique-ish kind of bowl great job God bless
Very nice, hopefully it never warped or cracked on you. I'm looking forward to your first video on wood carving. Your unleashing another hidden talent from within yourself. Been awhile since I've turned anything. Been getting back into flat boarding. Still hoping you'll try another yarn bowl. Take care Ed.
Thank you so much Paul! I don't know about true wood carving, but I definitely will be doing more experimenting with texturing techniques. I'm waiting for a sassafras blank to dry before I attempt it again. Stay safe and healthy! - Ed
Thank you Bill! They would have made a great project mixed in resin, but I was so tired after I finished, they got cleaned up with the shavings. Just need to do another one. Have a blessed day! - Ed
I really like it, Ed! The bowl would have been great without the exterior chip carving, but that embellishment made it even better! Love it! Well done, my friend! Billy
I am a subscriber, I gave it a thumbs up, it came out better than I expected. But I would have liked it better without the carving. But ask anyone, they will tell you I am weird. Still, thank you for sharing. And please stay healthy.
Nice bowl Ed, however, the term "chip carving" is not descriptive of what you did, chip carving is made with knives and firmers, and it is most times decorative, geometric incisive cuts that create patterns and decorations. What you did is a gauge work, it does look nice though.
Thank you Cesar! I didn't know that it was called something different. I appreciate you letting me know the correct term to use. Have a blessed day! - Ed
Your carving gouge was not sharp enough. Even through walnut you should not have to work hard in getting the tool to cut nice and sharp and with crisp results. One could see scratch marks from a dull tool. No sanding would have resulted in a much more dramatic looking result.45 years of woodcarving experience and European training.Constructive criticism, not meant to be degrading.
Thank you and I really appreciate the feedback. I agree and noticed that the chisel was leaving scratches. I didn't pay very much for them because I wasn't sure how it would be, but I really enjoyed the experience so I will look into some better quality chisels. Thank you again and have a blessed day! - Ed
@@WolfRidgeWoodworking A simple way to render that problem is to invest in a hard not soft or medium felt wheel, then with some green jewelers rouge just hone the cutting edge any time you use the carving tools, before carving. 1/4 to 1/2 hp old electric motor ,mount the felt wheel on making sure the rotation is away from you. Apply the rouge and hone. 5sec honing and then 20 min of carving. Don't use the stones ,way too slow and never sharp enough .Hope this helps
Awesome project
Thank you very much! - Ed
@@WolfRidgeWoodworking You're welcome
Hi Ed it is oh so stunningly beautiful and magnificent the chatoyance in the grain is breathtakingly beautiful.

Thank you Gord! Sometimes it is hard to take a chisel, Dremel, or even a paint brush to a perfectly good bowl. ha ha Have a blessed day! - Ed
Hi Ed, As you said some will like it some won't. I really like it a lot. Nice use of the chisel. Take care Ed. Cheers, Huw
Thank you Huw! If i'm going to do more like this, I need to invest in a better chisel. Have a blessed day my friend! - Ed

Beautiful bowl, Ed. The carving almost gives it a ceramic look. Will we see those chips in another project (hint)? Stay well. Bill
Thank you Bill! They would have made a great project mixed in resin, but I was so tired after I finished, they got cleaned up with the shavings. Just need to do another one. Have a blessed day! - Ed
Great effect Al but for me the first cut into that great looking bowl would have taken me hours
Thank you! I know what you mean. Trust me, I looked at it long and hard thinking "do you really want to do this". ha ha. Have a blessed day! - Ed
I really like it, Ed! The bowl would have been great without the exterior chip carving, but that embellishment made it even better! Love it! Well done, my friend!

Thank you for watching! I know that it's not for everyone and that's ok. - Ed
Music is nice, but it is still distracting. The sounds of scraping would be just fine.

Great suggestion Norbert . I've got some carving gouges but never been able to get them sharp enough . Will definitely try that ! Lovely bowl !
