I love how laid-back and relatable she is with her approach to things, it's Laura's personality that makes her cooking all that more entertaining to watch! Great job!!!
One of the reasons I love your videos so much is because you actually try your food on camera and give us a breakdown of the tastes and textures. Some people seem afraid to eat on camera in cooking videos but I love that you get excited about your creations... makes me want to try them all the more! These look SO good. My dad makes homemade donuts on Christmas morning so they have a special place in my heart (and stomach).
I just wanna thank you Laura, I followed this recipe and it worked! The dough was perfect! I even not rest them for couples hour more, but it rise and fluffy perfectly. So amazing, and my whole family loves it. Thank you so much. Xoxo
Beautiful recipe! Can't wait to try it. Is there anything I can substitute the vegetable shortening for, something like coconut oil? Thanks for sharing :)
These jelly donuts are absolutely devine! I make them when I invite friends over for brunch, filling some with strawberry jam, some with seedless boysenberry jam. They're always a huge hit! I don't put them on the buffet until all the savory dishes are eaten or everyone will eat the jelly donuts first, lol! They go fast and there are never any left overs! Five stars, Laura!*****
My favorite donut is very similar to yours. Its a long john that is the same as your donut filled with pastry cream instead of jam and topped with powdered sugar instead of granulated sugar. Also, your donut looks like a malasada (before the jam) and I love those too!
No, because the Eclair has a very distinct donut texture that I care nothing for. The Long John I'm referring to is breadish. It's sold in Hawaii- the version I LOVE is sold at Napolean's Bakery in Zippys.
I tried this recipe, and the dough was unbelievably good, it was somehow crispy on the outside and soooo fluffy on the inside.... I dont wanna try any other recipe, I recommended it to all my friends
I made them! My brother said that it was the best dessert I have ever done! And I have done a lot!...They were amazing...I recommend to do half of the recipe because you will not stop eating them!
In Germany they are called "Berliner" or "Krapfen". In Berlin they call them "Pfannkuchen" (pancakes). You can get them all year, but they are usually eaten on silvester eve, new years day or on carneval. :)
Fixed these yesterday and they were amazing (I filled them with concord grape jelly)! My friend has been raving about when he used to get donuts like these in NY, found these and he loved them. Will definitely be making them again. I have made several recipes from your channel and have to yet to find one that has "failed". Thank you so much for sharing your tasty treats, keep up the awesome work.
Yumm! I wana make those right now! Another tip to checking if your oil is up to temperature is wetting your hand and spriching into the pot and if it bubbles it means it's up to temperature!
My mouth was salivating the whole time I was watching the video and my jaw dropped all the way down to the floor when is saw the finished product!! Yummy goooooodness!!
Excellent Recipe! i just additionally added 1-1/2 tsp of freshly ground nutmeg to the egg mixture as well for a rich aroma and used 3tbs of dry active yeast (about 21gms) instead of 14. and let the rest of dough recipe intact! - worked like a charm! thanks Laura!!! also LOVED your grandma's tip for checking the oil temperature - thanks so much for sharing ^_^ oh and i filled these with nutella and chocolate peanut butter mix. Oooohhh YUM!!!
I made these today, and one word... yummy! They came out sooo good. Soft and delicious. It made 23 for me plus donut holes. I didn't fill mine, I just cut them and fried them.
JELLY DONUTS O.O Laura you have a time machine linked to my brain. Watching this recipe just teleported me back to my childhood in Prague ^^ I remember I was five years old and would run to the grocery store to get an assortment of pastries, but would always get a big, fluffy, strawberry-jam filled donut just for myself. The smell of them, that distinct fried and sugar-coated aroma... and then the pillowy soft inside and the tangy, sweet filling. Oh boy. Anyway thank you for sharing this with us Laura, you're the best ^^ Would you make for us some delicious gnocchetti verdi next? Or panzerotti pugliesi? Or to keep things on the sweet side, some chiacchiere? :3
I'm so jelly right now ;__; they look amazing! In Portugal we have a similar pastry but it's filled with a sweet egg custard and we call them "Berlin Ball".
Here in Brazil we call "sonho de creme". It's a similar pastry filled with pastry cream or dulce de leche. But at home I like to fill it with chocolate ganache ou nutella or jam.
hi Laura. love your recipes. I have tried some of them n they turned out great. but one thing bothers me that whenever I hit the link to get the recipe the whole page pops out instead of that one specific recipe. plz tell what's the easiest way to get the written recipe. tia
Laura thank u so much for sharing ur yummy recipes, non of ur recipes ever fail me ..every other recipes that i tried never satisfied me but urs was a hit thank u again...
Laura, I have my Donuts doubling in size right now. In about a half hour they’ll be ready to fry. These are my ABSOLUTE favorite since I was a child, I’m now in my 50’s. I’m sending some to my oldest brother he loves them too and my sister-in-law. If these come out well (my first time trying to make) I’ll be making these at least once a month for all of my local family members. Don’t worry, I’ll tell them that Laura showed me how.🎉❤️🍩🤗
This is a GREAT RECIPE! Was a big hit with my family and at work. And, the donuts look exactly like they are supposed to. I made jelly first. Next time, i put white holland creme filling in. Delish. For some reason, the donuts cooked more nicely in pot of oil rather than my deep fryer. My deep fryer temp I think is a bit under temp and only goes so high. It says it goes to 375 but I put a thermometer in that and it didnt' hold that temp. So, you might prefer using a pot of oil and thermometer instead. The one criticism is that the actual recipe says the prep time is 10 mins and the cook time is 10 min, lol. It will take you a good part of your day to make these, let them rise, individually fry them and then to fill them. So, it's a labor of love but you won't get in and out in 20 min! lol
I watched a repeat of that FN show called "Rewrapped" where the contestants had to reproduce Entemann doughnuts. One contestant baked hers and while her score wasn't that good in the first round, she wound up winning by the end. So, bake away!
Hey can you try and cook an asian dish like honey chicken or something? I also wanna learn an asian dish from you! So far I've learnt how to make some of your desserts and they are amazing!
I made the dough now, its gonna wait for three hours. Am so excited!! I hope they turn out well, because I didn't use powder yeast but these dough kinda yeast. And I also didn't use shortening but doubled the amount of margarine because you cant reallly find shortening where I live.
They turned out really well! Only problem that the sugar didnt glue itself to the donut afterwards. I tried everything but it didnt..anyone who knows a tip?
When you have fried your donuts and they are still hot, put some sugar in a ziplock bag with some of the donuts and just like shake the bag. I hope you understood I'm not so good at explaining ;D
THESE DONUTS ARE GREAT

No, because the Eclair has a very distinct donut texture that I care nothing for. The Long John I'm referring to is breadish. It's sold in Hawaii- the version I LOVE is sold at Napolean's Bakery in Zippys.

yes, and President Kennedy called himself a "Jelly Donut"in his 1963 speech "Ich bin ein Berliner"

Here in Norway too*** lol
In Germany we call them berliner :)
We used to call them Bismarcks in the US but I haven't heard that name in years.
Here in Brazil we call "sonho de creme". It's a similar pastry filled with pastry cream or dulce de leche. But at home I like to fill it with chocolate ganache ou nutella or jam.
Wow these cherry kakyoin donuts are so good I'm sure DIO is proud.
When I make a yeast dough, I let it rise in the oven with the oven light on, but NOT the actual oven.
HA! Same trick my mom taught me 40+ years ago. :-)

In Brazil, this kind of donuts is called "Sonho" (it means "Dream").
Cool
Jocelyn Alvarez Sonho is very very popular on bakeries here, the most usual donut filing is dulce de leche, coconut cream and chocolate.
Cool
