OMG... I have a cut key with a chip from about 4 years ago that I tried, with a friend, to program but it never worked after tons of tries... we were doing it differently than you. I looked up a few videos and yours was the only one that worked... I did exactly what and how you recommended in this video. Now I have 3 keys for my 2000 Ford F-150 4x4 THANKS a million bud!!!!!!!
This technique work just as he described. 15 sec and you are done. The basic requirement is that you have to have two keys that are already programmed. Amazing. Thanks
To clarify, they must be two *original* factory or locksmith-created keys. Pretty sure the keys made this way cannot be used to program more keys. Also, if the two original keys are clones of each other, pretty sure that won't work either. Must be two *different* original keys.
@@kansas7614 please share more info... what key blanks did you have, the Strattec ones? Did you have two *Factory* original keys? If one of them was a "cloned" factory key this procedure won't work.
I just bought a 99 Ranger...after watching several of these videos, I bought 2 keys from Ebay. I followed the procedure..first attempt on first key did not work, but second attempt did. Same deal with the second key, two attempts were needed......so..if it does not work, don't freak out, just do it again. I am also getting 2 more, just to make sure I never have to do biz with a dealer. And, BTW, you need a new pair of boots.

Unless, of course one of the keys is broken or perhaps you have 3 people who share a car. Don't be a stupid ass....there's obviously a reason or there wouldn't be a market for the replacement keys, nor would this video exist 🙄
You are THE MAN. Thank you!!! I had figured out how to program the transmitter (insert key into ignition and (foot off brake) go RUN OFF RUN OFF 8 times (staying in RUN the last time) then push any button on new remote…but car wouldn’t start. This transponder-key programming was the missing link.
Worked perfectly on my 2010 Ford Explorer. Bought key from A----zon for $12, had it cut at a local A_E hardware store for $4. Big orange store could not cut key because their new fancy computer key cutter could not find a template. Thank you for putting this out their.

This worked for my 2011 F150 also. Different looking key but worked perfect. But you must have 2 original keys to program a 3rd. Saved me $70.00 the dealer wanted to program a key.
By the way, if you don't have 2 keys, any locksmith can program them. Be careful when searching though. The mobile guys want anywhere from $150 to over $200. I found a local Locksmith, took it up there, and they charged me $35 to program it as well as $15 to cut it since nobody else would do it.
Why the 137 thumbs down? What he shows works. For the PATS 1 system only one key is required, but it will take you 45 minutes to do. With the PATS 2 system exactly what is shown in the video works. 2 keys required to clone additional keys. Not sure what the PATS 3,4 and 5 require...
I'm going to try this on my 2018 ranger xls 4x4 i'll report back and let you know if it works. I have conflicting reports as to whether it will work or not....only 1 way to find out...thsnks for the upload

lol you dont need the extra 2 keys. just need the one you need to program. i paid this guy 110 bucks came in a van an 10 minutes later had a new 3rd key that actually works. I dont know how he did it but he did.

Update NO. It doesn’t work. Here is what I did though bought 2 new keys from eBay for about 25 bucks, had ace hardware cut them for about 3 bucks each, the bought a 17 dollar cable from Amazon to use with Forscan, downloaded Forscan onto a laptop and went in and programmed the new keys. (There are plenty of TH-cam videos on how to do this) and you DONT have to buy forscans premium service for they offer a 1 month free trial but one year is only 10 bucks so all in all that’s 2 brand new keys for 50 bucks still HALF the price of a dealership bought single key

So with 2 new dealer cut e-bay keys in hand I asked my teenage daughter to view this video and program my keys - boom 5 minutes later mission accomplished! The dealer in Toronto Canada charges $80 for cut and program - now according to my wife I owe my kid $80.00 hahahhaaaa
I did exactly what you stated. Mine started it just fine, but when I took the new key out and tried again a few minutes later, it would not work again. It just flashed the security light. Now sure what to do now.
So the two existing keys have to have working transponders in them? The problem is the reason I need a replacement key is because the transponder in my currant key went bad I think. When I try to start my car everything turns on but when I try to start the engine I get a clicking sound from what I think is either the ignition relay or the fuse box. And the theft light is blinking slowly.
CoolHandFluke you need two keys that will start the vehicle to be able to program another one. I've never heard of a transponder going bad though. Does your other key start the vehicle?
Why did you have to get new keys? Did you have to replace to cylinder lock? Reason being. I have a 03 Ford Expedition & my cylinder lock is worn out. It's not my key. Cause I tried my spare key which rarely gets used & done the same thing. I was thinking of getting one at O'Reillys witb a transponder and trying this method. Thanks!!! Hope ti hear back from you. I got new keys because I originally had lost one of my two and only had one original and didn't want to be left with out a spare. Luckily I was able to find my second key so I could program the two new spare keys myself without having to go to the dealer.

The difference is that the new key from Ford has a different digital identity , while the cloned key is seen by the car computer as identical to the 1st key. A third key means you can lose one and still program a new one without paying someone the prices you mentioned. I just made one for a Hide-a-Key for lockouts (hey, I need them every then years or so).
I wish you would have explained what a transponder key was. The difference between it and a normal key. And if all Ford's have them for certain years or models???
Main difference, it has a chip that allows it to work with only one vehicle. I believe every Ford after 2000 has a transponder key except the super dutys. But I'm not 100%.

I lost my keys yesterday called 4 lock Smith's nobody answered. Kept looking everywhere. Finally gave up looking for them. Walked in my bedroom and they were on the edge of my dresser beside a little box. I should have quit looking 2 hours sooner lol. Now all the locksmith are calling back, like we missed your call. I'm glad they didn't answer because I would have probably ended up paying them $300+. People always say they are in the last place you look. And I'm like well yeah after I find them I'm not going to look any place else that would be pointless.

This does work with one key. I had one key when i bought my car. The key broke in half one day at work. Ford cut me a key for 20 bucks. I was able to program that key. As long as the key is near the chip in the fob it should work.
Hitchin Mitch My key was an all in one with the three buttons. I had to keep the key near the fob to program it. It wouldn't start the car until i put the car in program mode and went through the steps. My original key broke completely in half so i didn't really even have a key. The dealership had to super glue it just to cut a key for me. I don't if the all in one makes a difference or if i just got lucky. I just a got an uncut key from Amazon after i get it cut, I'll send you update if that one will program as well.
Yea for sure let me know on the one you ordered. My new truck came with one key with the buttons and I still needed the dealer to program it. If yours was able to work with the one that's awesome!
I know it's late but i told you i would give an update. I was able to program another key without the 2nd key. However, sometimes the car's security doesn't recognize it right away. So it's possible but it's a headache to start at times. I will probably get another key from Amazon & get Ace hardware to program it. It's much cheaper going through them.
Adding an update to my comment below....I took the new keys to a locksmith and he checked them for me- the keys would NOT program. He then cut two new keys, and I took them out to the truck and they programmed just like in The Fordman's video. Bottom line.... I got TWO defective keys from remotesremotes.com....I've returned them to them for refund....will report back on whether I'm successful. But again....this video WORKS!!!!!
It's something to do with the security system. The chip in the key has to be recognized by the car's computer. You get an after market key & have a locksmith or Ace hardware, Lowes, and some home depot cut & program it for half the cost of a dealership.

Josh Huber They might have to program the remote start module when they re program all the new keys if the remote uses a key in the system. but I'd let them know you have a remote start when you have it done.
I got mine cut at a place called "Goldy Locks" it's a lock smith place because any where else either kept messing up the cut or had the automatic machine thing.

i had to have ford put a new ignition switch in my truck and when they did they put just any ignition switch in and then had to program three new pats keys. but i found an ignition switch to be rekeyed to my old keys how do i get ride of those three extra keys programmed to my truck?
I just called ford dealer. They're telling me the key cost $52 and to program, it will cost about $100. It will take 90 minutes to get in shop and program. I used to work at Honda. They must think I'm stupid.
when I bought my Ranger in 2006 it only came with one programmed key and another similar just to open the doors. Thi was brand new from the dealership. Would this work with this method?

That's a pretty good track record for not losing a key. I've seen some people make two copies of their key and then mount the chip one right next to the ignition under the steering column cover. Otherwise you'll need software to program a new key. Hopefully this helps!

That's pretty strange. I am not too sure why it would do that, unless the computer forgot the key or something.

as long as both keys have already been programed to the vehicle(so both start the vehicle) then yes you can program the third key using this method.

I wonder if trying to program a second key from just one working key could, in anyway, knock out your only working key. .. That would truly suck.

This does work with one key. I had one key when i bought my car. The key broke in half one day at work. Ford cut me a key for 20 bucks. I was able to program that key. As long as the key is near the chip in the fob it should work.

Hitchin Mitch My key was an all in one with the three buttons. I had to keep the key near the fob to program it. It wouldn't start the car until i put the car in program mode and went through the steps. My original key broke completely in half so i didn't really even have a key. The dealership had to super glue it just to cut a key for me. I don't if the all in one makes a difference or if i just got lucky. I just a got an uncut key from Amazon after i get it cut, I'll send you update if that one will program as well.
Yea for sure let me know on the one you ordered. My new truck came with one key with the buttons and I still needed the dealer to program it. If yours was able to work with the one that's awesome!

I know it's late but i told you i would give an update. I was able to program another key without the 2nd key. However, sometimes the car's security doesn't recognize it right away. So it's possible but it's a headache to start at times. I will probably get another key from Amazon & get Ace hardware to program it. It's much cheaper going through them.

Josh Huber you shouldn't need all keys present, you're only adding an extra key so the third key will stay programmed.
Adding an update to my comment below....I took the new keys to a locksmith and he checked them for me- the keys would NOT program. He then cut two new keys, and I took them out to the truck and they programmed just like in The Fordman's video. Bottom line.... I got TWO defective keys from remotesremotes.com....I've returned them to them for refund....will report back on whether I'm successful. But again....this video WORKS!!!!!

It's something to do with the security system. The chip in the key has to be recognized by the car's computer. You get an after market key & have a locksmith or Ace hardware, Lowes, and some home depot cut & program it for half the cost of a dealership.

Unfortunately the only way is to take it to the dealer. I am not aware of a way to program a new key with only one.

Ok will the remote start still work if the for dealer deletes all key to get ride of those three keys that go to that other ignition switch?
Josh Huber They might have to program the remote start module when they re program all the new keys if the remote uses a key in the system. but I'd let them know you have a remote start when you have it done.
So after for erase all the key and problems two new keys I can program the other two my self for a total of 4 keys?

Where did you get your keys cut? Had to ask for a manager and fight with them to get a key from Ebay cut a Lowe's. They ended up doing it for free.
I got mine cut at a place called "Goldy Locks" it's a lock smith place because any where else either kept messing up the cut or had the automatic machine thing.
I went to Ace hardware to get my cut. I made sure it fit everything before i even paid for it. If you ask they usually let you check it.
@@aspensmith2696 I tried to purchase a key at Ace Hardware and they did not stock it (Suzuki Samurai) I asked them if they would cut a couple of keys if I buy them elsewhere and bring them to their store, They would not - claimed there policy was not to cut any keys unless they stock them. i had to have ford put a new ignition switch in my truck and when they did they put just any ignition switch in and then had to program three new pats keys. but i found an ignition switch to be rekeyed to my old keys how do i get ride of those three extra keys programmed to my truck?

I just called ford dealer. They're telling me the key cost $52 and to program, it will cost about $100. It will take 90 minutes to get in shop and program.
I used to work at Honda. They must think I'm stupid.
Some cars need to be programmed with computer software that the average person does not have access to.
They think everyone is stupid, but they are only right half the time.
Average person can get the hardware and software just keep looking on TH-cam... just use forscan software and there's an obd2 device you need as well

You need to pay to have ford make another key. You must have two working ignition keys.
when I bought my Ranger in 2006 it only came with one programmed key and another similar just to open the doors. Thi was brand new from the dealership. Would this work with this method?

That's a pretty good track record for not losing a key. I've seen some people make two copies of their key and then mount the chip one right next to the ignition under the steering column cover. Otherwise you'll need software to program a new key. Hopefully this helps!
