    I've watched what seems like a DOZEN videos and you are the FIRST PERSON to specifically say "Put the square end in first." I was sticking the hooked end of the tool in first and couldn't figure out why the tire wasn't lowering. Thanks, Man!!

    • @strawboss59
      @strawboss59 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      And there are two square ends....the larger of the two is the correct size. And if the clip holding the plastic guide tube to the chain crank mechanism is unclipped, broken or otherwise fubarred, your chances of engaging the square drive pin is very very slim. Ask me how I know.....😡 At least it happened in my driveway and not on the highway in the middle of winter.

    Great video! Thank you for showing from start to finish. Had tires replaced and the folks at the shop left my spare in the bed of the truck. And if you didn't take the spare off from under the truck in the first place, makes it a little more difficult not knowing how to put it back under! (Because what may seem simple for others...well, you know!)

    In a emergency, you can buy a cheap 24" long 3/8" drive extension from Harbor Freight and use a 12 point 1/2" socket on the end of the extension to slip over the square drive bolt head on the spare tire hoist. But be aware the 12 point socket will probably jam on the square bolt head of the hoist. The hoist bolt head is 0.460" square, just under 15/32". I tried using the female end of a long 1/2" drive extension but the O.D. is too large for the tube going to the spare tire hoist.

    Good job on calling out the fact that you should not remove the cable from the frame. But let’s be honest, any time you need to basically lay on the ground to access the spare (or replace the tire back underneath) then you should not use words like “easy”. Try doing this on the side of a busy freeway. At night. In the rain. Just call AAA if that is an option. Changing your own tire is all well and good but you are going to ruin some clothes and a lot of women won’t be able to do the lifting required.

    2:13 Not trying to brag or anything as I'm sure all my bros out there can say the same; but I am a bit of an expert in sliding my whole poll into the little hole. 😉🍆💦
    But legit though, thanks a ton for the video. My 2002 Chevy Silverado 2500HD I inherited from my grandfather is sitting outfront my house right now with a flat. Apparently the tires haven't been changed in about 14 years so one developed a large crack and went flat without warning. Luckily I heard the hissing and was able to deduce it was leaking fastest with the crack at the 6 O’clock position and was able to limp home. Going to attempt my execution of the knowledge you shared! Wish me luck, thumbs up!

    Kinda late here but is it normal for the tire to wobble when situated as high as it can go? Don’t know how to fix it. It wobbles like crazy when I drive.

    • @dannyjohnsonsgarage
      @dannyjohnsonsgarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It shouldn’t wobble. Is the tire size factory for the wheel?

    • @markymark34
      @markymark34 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah it’s factory. I tightened it up as far as I could and still wobbles.

    • @markymark34
      @markymark34 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So looks like I fixed it. Wheel was mounted with the front of the rim against the bottom side of the truck. I flipped the tire and hoisted it and its secure now. Either that clamp wasn’t sitting securely against the rim and/or hoist was at its max up position not securing the tire completely. Thank you for your response. Got to lube up the wire while I was at it to! I blame it on BigOTires when they changed out my spare for a new tire ha!

      No, lift and lower the spare only when all wheels are installed. At 5:32 I mention the length of the pole so you don’t have to ever be under the vehicle when using the jack. At 6:20 I also ask you to never be under the vehicle at any time the wheel is removed. Please be as safe as possible 👍🏼
