    Lyrics
I wanna make my girl a mixtape
Of love songs she'd know were just from me
But the only songs I know are Christian
So I have to think strategically
Like when TobyMac said, "You consume me"
I thought of her and how her eyes see through me
And Switchfoot has an "Only hope"
And that's her for me even though I know
They wrote 'em for God, for Jesus
For a savior, ain't that nice?
    But I'm seventeen
And I want someone real to hold at night
    And I'm terrified, I'm terrified
They'd hate me if they knew
I'm using worships songs to say I love you
Would they hate me if they knew?
Well there's a drag queen out in Tennessee
She dedicates her act to Amy
Well "Baby, baby" I hope one day she'll be acknowledged
Like Relient K fucking got my ass through college
But would they hate us if they knew?
Is it hard to be oblivious?
Did you flinch when you threw "a little more" under the bus?
But when the check comes is it glorious?
What's it cost to ignore us?
Maybe I'd hate you if I knew
Maybe I'd hate you if I knew
I wanna make my girl a mixtape
Of love songs she'd know were just from me
But the only songs I know are Christian
So I have to think strategically

I was washing dishes one night back in 1992, and thinking about my lesbian crush at church, and how it hurt so much to be in love with her, when Ann Murray's song, "I Wanna Sing You a Love Song" came on the radio. Semler, your tender song here brings it all back. Thank you, in a bittersweet sort of way. 💜🌈💜

A major moment in my bi awakening was during an apologetics discussion with another evangelical dude. We each got more giddy, the more we agreed, and I liked the way his arms filled his shirt.

💜 This is so, so heart-wrenchingly beautiful.
    I’m speechless. Except for this…
    Wow.
    Wow.
Such a pure message your heart shares. All of your music. I’m working my way through your work. But this.. 🥲.
Semler, Adeem, and Flamy have literally changed my world, and in such a powerful way. I’m 62. My heart is just wide open.
I never saw this movement coming, and it’s coming right out of the Bible Belt. I’m right here with you.
Semler, my dear one, you have blessed the world with a message of pure Christ love. You, Adeem, Flamy, You are angels sent here to perform a sacred mission: to unleash all of the pent-up love in the world, and spreading it all over everybody.
I have been in the love since discovering Flamy Grant (along with the rest of the world!) just recently when the tweet happened. 😃 She has been such a huge deal in my consciousness and living in my mind, constantly hearing her songs and absorbing her message. I am somehow back in love with life and love’s potential in every moment of every day.
Everyone wants to love and everyone wants to be loved. That being established, we can work out these other minor details.
The artists will lead the way, and we are ALL artists, if we create something good.
    🔥
    ❤️
    We are love.
    We are one.
    I love you all.
    I love myself.
    I Am love.
    I AM
    Semler,
    Thank you.
    🙏 David.
    Come to Atlanta!
I guess I need to come back to Instagram.
    🫥😑🙃😇see ya there.

Grace, I saw you open for Relient K in Atlanta today and can I just say, as a gay Christian (in ministry, no less) I laughed and cried and felt every emotion with everyone in the room when you took the stage. I am so glad, blessed, excited, and so, so, so touched that you exist, that you are making music, and that you are... just you. It meant so much to me to see a room full of people supporting you (and, like, not to be weird, but me? by proxy? kinda?) and so I can't even begin to imagine how it must feel for you. Proud of you, and loved your set. From a new fan.

Very talented. That being said, this is not Christian music, and you are not a Christian. I would not be doing you any favors by pretending otherwise. As a Christian I am called to love my neighbor as myself, and love is and will always go hand and hand with truth. I know in your song "Jesus from Texas" you refer to your lifestyle as a blessing. It is not. It is sin. And we all must truly repent for our sins and turn to Jesus or the eternal consequence will be death. Hell. There is no way around that. I'll be praying for you.

Abiding by the apostles creed does not make one a Christian. Accepting Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior of your life and glorifying Him in your daily life makes you a Christian. This song quite obviously was created to glorify her and her lifestyle. She has a beautiful voice. I pray that she will come to know Him and use her voice to glorify God. Some will call this a message of hate. Go ahead if you must. Calling something hate doesn't make it so and choosing not to believe something doesn't make it true.

Why ? This has nothing really to do with God nor Christian, it’s mostly about a weird love story and u just say God and Christian In it so it could supposedly be a Christian song and decided to name it TOBY MAC ? Like why name it after a legendary Christian artist Toby Mac for when he has no correlation with this song. I’m just bewildered and disappointed at the same time. 😔💯

    • @gc6929
      @gc6929 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Is that "why" a rhetorical question or would you actually like an answer? The song is expressing how, being in love with a girl growing up, the only songs the artist had to express it were songs about God, from artists like Toby Mac.
The lyrics are pretty clear, friend. Maybe give it another listen & reconsider if you're responding in a christlike manner to someone describing being as a 17 year old kid, terrified "they'd hate me if they knew." Like, I'm sorry the name of your legendary fav christian artist was sullied by someone else's personal thoughts, experiences, & feelings, but there are people in the world who aren't you. 😔💯
What was bewildering? If that doesn't clarify, maybe I could explain?

Therefore, I can hypothetically speak, the same thing about you, how there are people in the world who aren’t you. 😔💯 L0L, so IDK what you’re trying to get at; if she doesn’t claim to be a Christian signer, then I wouldn’t have a problem at all, but she claims to be a Christian signer and then uses Toby macs name for whatever reason when he’s not relevant to the song or theirs nothing Christian in this love song, so I’m repeating my self once again Jajaja 🤪😌

You didn't say ur issue was w her claiming to be a christian signer. You said there was no correlation w the song to Christianity & Toby Mac. I never said u shouldn't have an opinion, I explained the correlation. If u disagree w what they said, just say that? Maybe it's just my poor reading comprehension, but I genuinely didn't know that's what u were implying. U called urself "bewildered." I thought u meant u didn't understand her purpose in the song. @@gc6929 L0L, I could tell you love to debate and argue. I like that, but you do have a point about how I can’t decide who’s Christian and who isn’t, but by the way, I see It, she’s not, and one of the main reasons is I believe she’s already married to women, which is a sin, but I believe you can be a homosexual and still be a Christian but you have to not partake into the sin like sleeping with the same gender, or anything like that which is a sin

@@Ruben2Lit "I could tell you love to debate and argue." Yeah it's something I'm working on. which is why I shouldn't have engaged here whatsoever.
If you're homophobic, just say your homophobic. You started this saying you were bewildered as to what God & Toby Mac had to do with the song. Which is clearly not what you meant. A loving God is not a bigot & does not create people a certain way & then condemn them for it. Anyways, I used to be in your shoes, so I can only hope you learn better.
      Okey-dokey, I'm shutting up now & won't be back. Have a day.✌️

At least she's honest that Christianity and Worship music is 100% not conforming to homosexuality in any way. And at least she's honest that she's 100% comfortable in twisting the Word of God and singing "worship" sings not to God but her deviancy.

This is like a much more heartbreaking Christian and Queer version of heart songs by Weezer.
